Steven Dennett You should try Marttiini knive if you like more fancy looking knives. Marttiini puukkos have always razor sharp scandi blades from a factory with very comfortable handles. There is also many other great finnish knive makers.

Finns make good, tough and economical utilitarian knives - as well as some real beauties. As for the name, accent on first syllable in Finnish, and "j" sounded as English "y." Ya-ah-kah-ree-pook-koh gets you close, but double vowels technically are each pronounced, though they are hard to hear as native speakers slur them when speaking. My late mother-in-law tried to get me doing it right, lol. Second accent would be on the first syllable of puukko. A very difficult language to learn all in all, so you gave it a good shot.

All one can do. I'm headed to Finland later this year and counting on the fact most Finns learn English. I can say hello, goodbye, thank you, sausage, milk, and cheers in Finnish, as long as I don't get mixed up. I need to learn "Puhutko englantia?" Do you speak English? ;)

When you put a secondary bevel on a sandi blade it becomes a *secondary beveled knife* losing much of the scandi's edge benefits. Not saying you are wrong The Prepared Wanderer or you can't do that (not my place to tell you what to do) but it should be noted. The major plus to the pure scandi edge is it is a *super wood working/carving edge.*

Scandi edge digs in with little control, and is also very weak when used in hardwoods. A secondary bevel is necessary for hard use.

The Mora Garberg is no rat tail tang, those 110s are awesome but I only paid $56 for my Garberg in its leather sheath its an awesome blade. One thing I don't like about these Varustalikas is the rubber grip. I don't care what anyone says, they always get messed up looking, thats only if people actually use their knife enough to ever notice. The Garberg has a very dense TPE handle that's more heavier than all their other blades with no soft rubber, also the steel is 14C28N a step up in their line of knives. I know these knives are way popular but I just don't get why everyone is pitting these knives against each other both are good in their own right. If ya haven't seen the Garberg you should check them out they are very good knives, also the Real Steel Bushcrafter which is D2 steel for around $59 it to is a great blade.

  • @Darrenski

    @Darrenski

@Airik1111bibles the rubber is actually very hard. It's not like kraton etc. Its like the sort of rubber you get on hammers and it's ever gonna get messed up. I also have two garbergs, a stainless and a carbon and id take the jaakaripuukko every time. The fallkniven rubber handles last forever as well.

@Darrenski Man that comment is 7 years old and boy have I changed my knife views LOL. I have a knife channel now called "Airiks Knife Life" . I actually bought a 1095hc Garberg awhile back that I reviewed. The edge came a bit screwed up so I had to take it to zero degrees. The plunge line was really bad from the secondary bevel machining. I have still never pulled the lever on a Terrava Puukko all these years later . Honestly it's because I've seen some really bad plunge lines and uneven grinds from other owners. Since it's shipped from Europe im bit reluctant to get one now...Plus I own so many blades in that range as is. Honestly I have more fun buying blanks now especially Brisa blades and building my own handles. That's good to know , I always thought their handles were softer material even to this day . Thanks.

I think everyone should carry a well put together pack for outdoors and a great watch and most of all is this well made blade. I use this as my EDC gear and a sharp pocket knife. I like your video's they really help anyone to learn bush crafting and how the blade performs and if they want to own one. Kudos Bro.

This knife (except handle material) looks like the Tops B.O.B.. Same thickness, same grind - high scandi with secondary bevel, and strong tip. I bet it performs just like the B.O.B. Technically, a scandi with secondary bevel is a saber grind (ask a knifemaker). The sheath is really nice. I like danglers. Since I have the B.O.B. I would not buy this particular knife, but again, I bet it performs like the BOB, which is fantastic.

I have many classic Scandinavian knives with Scandi grinds Many of them come with a secondary grind like this knife, but this does not make it a saber grind with a secondary edge The secondary grind makes for a very strong and robust edge The zero grind scandi grind makes for a more delicate edge, which is superb for woodworking, but not for rougher field work As you use the knife and sharpen it on the flat bevel, the secondary edge becomes smaller, until you have your knife with the edge you want for your personal useage

I live in England in officially the wettest city. So it doesn't come much wetter. But I'd still go with the carbon. A bit of 3in1 or WD40 and you're good to go. Maintaining a knife is part and parcel of owning a knife.

  • @elwha6025

It's a good knife but the only one to compare it to is the Bushcraft Black or Orange. The edge is not quite as fine for wood as the Black IMHO. (I have the 140 BTW.) Given the choice between the two I would take the Black because it just feels better in the hand and cuts better. That said, I like them both and use both. Mora killer? Not IMHO bit again, great knife and great sheath.

This knife is a killer of all knives. Absolutely no reason to spend more than 50 to 75 bucks on any knife. Those high priced custom knives are nice but extremely overpriced to people who think they are that much better which they are not. If you have the extra cash buy them but you will be wasting a lot of money for no real return on your investment. I like my moras of course but the Terava is brutally tough and can do the total finesse stuff equally as well.

No! It's definitely Not a Mora killer! It is a good knife, BUT, no matter what people are saying that knife IS NOT a full tang. It is a narrowed, full length tang! Get it right folks! AND, it WILL NOT do any a $20 or less Mora won't do. Or for that matter a $20, Marttinii Condor Timberjack, (by the way, also Finnish made), a $15 Hultafors Heavy Duty GK, a $25 Bahco Sb2449 "Wrecking Knife" and the list goes on. And not only can you get these other knives a lot cheaper, they are readily available on Amazon (most w/free shipping), & you don't have to wait on the company to re-stock the knife. If your gonna do knife, or any, product reviews you should do "honest" reviews & tell the viewers the absolute truth, including other "less expensive options" that you damn well know will perform just as well as the product your touting. Finally, at 2:00 you say, "It was a little dull from the factory..." Then, at 4:54 you say, "Now the scandi was very sharp out of the box..." Well, which is it?! Don't feel bad. You're not the only one on KZread doing a "totally biased, with no proof to back it up" review of this knife.

I haven't heard any stories about a Jaakaripuukko's handle breaking. I HAVE heard of people having to rehandle Mora's all over the internet. And, in the case of the mora and the timberjack I'd be spending the difference in money to replace the sheath anyway to basically have the same sheath that the Jaakaripuukko came with already. My point is, essentially, that the Jaakaripuukko is an objectively better product. You ARE correct, though, that it's not a mora killer. You'd have to keep up with production of Mora and catch up in sales and this company simply can't do that. What WOULD kill the Mora is if Opinel decided to get into the fixed blade market.

The 2:00 comment was about the sharpness of the spine. The Scandinavian sharp comment was about the edge. What mora outperforms this knife as hard user? Based on blade thickness AND tang thickness? Maybe 1, and it ain’t the $20 one And it’s willfully rotten nonsense to compare the leather dangler that ship’s with this to any mora sheath. You accuse him of comparing apples to oranges, and then you start comparing oranges to potatoes I smell a mora fanboy with a self confirming bias and a set of blinders on

You don't use knives as much do you? Those knives you compare are very good for light use and still their edges chip and roll easily. They are not build for medium or hard use as this knife is.I own all the knives you mentioned and I have used them extensively for many years. The Terävä Jääkäripuukko can be a primary bushcraft knife, the others you mentioned cannot.

For hard use one only needs a Mora robust or a Mora Companion Carbon. I have an 8 inch all-around SS Mora, the 6 inch all-around in carbon, and 4 inch Companions in both SS and carbon. Any time I'm browsing other fixed blade knives I always tell myself I'd be buying for collecting, not practical use. The Moras I already have can handle anything and everything I'd need including hard use. I think this Terava is superior in certain aspects but for a hard use knife a cheaper Mora seems logical. I can replace all of mine for under $100
