THE MONTHLY COST OF RUNNING A FRENCH CHATEAU!!!

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This week I reveal exactly how much it costs to run a chateau! If any of you are dreaming of owning your own French chateau one day, this video is crucial viewing for you!
I break down our monthly costs, so that you can work out exactly whether or not you can afford to make your dream come true.
But I will add one important point! If we’d known exactly how much Lalande would cost us over the years, we probably wouldn’t have bought it. But we muddled through from month to month and now we’ve paid off the mortgage and we’ve been here for 15 years, and I hope we’ll be here for many, many more. Sometimes you need to take a chance in life to follow your dreams. Most of us are capable of far more than we realise 💛🏰💛
So, if you’re dreaming of owning your own castle one day, don’t let this video put you off, instead, use it to make a killer business plan and prepare soundly for your fairytale 🥂
Escape to the chateau with ’The Chateau Diaries’ 🏰
In 'Sundays at the Chateau', chatelaine Stephanie answers all your questions about life in the 16th century Chateau de Lalande, in the heart of rural France ❤️

i would like a walk through from beginning to end of the chateau...every room. would give everyone a sense of the actual size. its difficult to imagine country houses when you only see them a room at a time but if you are in bed and forgot your phone in the kitchen the reality of a 15 min walk to get it brings the size into focus. thanx steph!

I suspect there are many rooms in that Chateau still in need of vast renovation,so it makes sense to just show one at a time in that case? Whereas Michael shows his as is and then works very hard to get them up to scratch with amazing skilled work and superlative good taste furnishes them with the help of his very talented family.

Ridiculous. It's more costly and less efficient. Nuclear power (especially in France) would be the most sane solution. How well do you think heating a chateau would work out in a cloud covered dark winter dependent on solar (or wind) ? Fossil fuels would be excellent. It's unfortunate energy costs are going up so much due to the subsidies towards unreliable energy. Actually it's morally criminal.

  • @maxfuchs3387

@@Avidcomp you are absolutely ridiculous. Solar is by far the cheapest solution, just not always available. But it is most time. Nuclear power is one of the most expensive energy sources available. But with heating I agree with you, especially in a Chateau for the next 15 years probably Oil is the way to go.

@@maxfuchs3387 I agree with you, plus for those cloudy periods, there is now a great electricity storage option - Both Tesla Powerwall and Pica Energy (made in Maine) offer modern electricity storage to carry you through until the sun comes out again.

@@Avidcomp I thought that it worked on a system where you use the solar energy in the summer and any excess goes into (is sold to) the national grid and builds up credit on your energy account, so that in the winter when you're not generating energy your surplus credit covers the bills when you're drawing energy from the national grid in those months. Admittedly there's the initial installation costs but that only takes a couple of years to break-even on, and solar systems are much more affordable (and smaller in size) than they used to be. Even just a couple of small panels wold supplement daily energy costs significantly.

Watching this at the start of April, my heart broke when she hopefully mentioned that they could break even this year. You can never predict what will happen, but this situation in the world will hurt so many small businesses. This just made me realize that it's "small" people who will suffer the most economically.

@@lorrainequigley6389 , thankfully Stephanie's paetron blew up, shortly after this video I would say, her peatron is bringing in around $23,000 / mos right now. So, they have been able to use this money to tackle some of the bigger projects and from what I understand the work has started on the inside of the chapel and they've started to work on getting the lake back. Now, paetron isn't a "guaranteed" income, it's guaranteed for that month, but people can drop off at any time, so I think she is being very fiscally responsible by not going crazy with new reno's and likely banking what she can to build up a good solid nest egg.

Yeah, I agree with you. She should explain how that works because it looks like people are just coming over to live in a chateau, eat her out of her monthly bills, and the total lack of privacy. She can't even enjoy opening her gifts because there is always someone digging in so that she doesn't have the opportunity of being surprised. Too many people around! I don't think its a good idea, especially with the many valuables that are all around the chateau. There appears to be NO SECURITY. I worry for her. I'm new to her channel, but she appears to be too trusting. I could be wrong.

I ouu and awe whilst watching Chateau Diaries videos the beautiful old furniture, fixtures and room decor.. Everything is so beautiful. I would love to hear more "stories" about the antiques.. When I lived in Las Vegas my family had a large architectural millwork shop. My father apprenticed in Germany and was a master craftsman cabinet maker. I had the best hand me down furniture! Our shop specialized in hotel/casino interiors and high end residential interiors. Excalibur was my favorite hotel to be a part of! We stored 3 suits of armor for months in our office. The came early..we had the space.. My dad was also given a replica of the sword, Excalibur.. King Arthur right? Lots of work but was so much fun.

Steph keep up the videos and you will build a following and make some youtube money! Your numbers are growing and you''ll be able to count KZread as another income stream! Thank you for the honesty regarding the finances! Here in California $3,000 a month is nothing as far as living costs. Now how to to convince the family to move to France!

This is amazing! THANK YOU for posting these details! No one else does this and it makes *all* the difference. Also, I agree with you. A house like that one *needs* people and *needs* to be a part of the community.

I stumbled across Escape to the Chateau which lead me to your channel and I have to say that I never realized how many regular people, if you will have done it. This has been my dream for years and every time I mention it to someone they assume I've lost my mind. I'm sure that purchasing property in Europe is a tad different for Americans? I am very pleased that you touched on this topic. Sort of eases my mind. Love your channel Stephanie! Keep up the good work and someday soon I hope to come see you!.
