The Montclair Art Museum's George Inness Gallery

Ойын-сауық

19th century visionary landscape painter George Inness was one of the foremost artists of his generation. Some of his greatest work was done in Montclair, at a time when the town was still half-rural. We visit the Montclair Art Museum, where the largest collection of his paintings to be seen anywhere has been newly installed in the Inness Gallery.

Agree with the backing color but the salon hanging is not a good idea... i get the point of that too but come on now, artists who flock to go see Inness' work dont want to see a glared up painting way above them that they can barely see.

yes the green was a terrible choice for a backing color for landscape paintings. I get what they were thinking in theory but there is a reason landscape exhibitions dont use green backing haha.

Wanted to see this again but, NO tks. The mustard walls are disgusting. The frames are enough gold/brown. And the jumble of hanging of the works of a N.J. treasure like Inness is like a high school kid did it. No wonder 'salon style' is not done anymore. Back to a color that was like before, green or maybe blue. And make it look like art, not a garage sale. . Please excuse me, Im just a guy with a fine arts degree from 50 yrs ago and a lifelong professional artist, not a trendy, politically correct artsy person who never painted a picture. Thanks, Im done.
