I didn't read anything about anyone hating anybody...
Ron Howard has interviewed about this numerous times. He said he loved the experience and both Griffith and Knotts were very good to him.
I loved Don Knotts. Seeing The Ghost And Mr Chicken on the big screen when I was six years old was an amazing experience.

All of Don's movies were good. However, The Ghost and Mr Chicken was his best. The Incredible Mr Limpet was also very good.
I’m 77 & I remember when the show first started, I still watch this loved show!
Grew up watching this and at 54 I am still watching it every day! I have the Andy Griffith trivia game… and can beat anyone! I know every single episode and each character. It is my all time favorite show! It’s when TV was worth watching and always had a great message and loads of laughter along the way… mixed in with a few tears at times. It was the one show our whole family loved and enjoyed together. I now have 2 grown children and they also grew up with this show… it’s truly a timeless classic. Thanks for all the laughs through the years! And being a native of NC (Charlotte) made it all the more special… All those sayings and the southern talk made it more than just a show and characters…. They seemed more like extended family! 📺🍿📽🎬🏡 🎣 🐟🔫⚖️🚔🚓👨✈️👨✈️🪕🎶💙
Ron said in an interview that Andy was much like his own father.
As a child actor, Ron Howard never sounded like a dumb little kid reciting lines. Can we take a moment to appreciate how verbally talented he was compared to other child actors? He articulated his lines so perfectly and seemed very intelligent by the way he spoke. That verbal talent has served him well throughout his long career in the biz!
The show was about wholesome family values where caring for one another wasn't just accepted, it was expected. In today's sitcom offerings the show is also unique in that it had no political agenda. The only thing the show promoted was decency and respect.
Don Knox was extremely talented especially in that role. His daughters said he would practice nightly for hours in front of a mirror for the next day’s shoot. He didn’t quit until he perfected his facial expressions etc. What a great talent.
Every time I have read about Andy and Ron , Howard says ‘he was all business.’ Don did not quit, his contract was up and he signed a 3 picture movie deal. He stated he was flabbergasted when Andy called him back for another year! He had always told Don that they were working for 5 years only.
This was an iconic creation and so superior to anything now. Children of any age could have watched it and the stories depicted and the characters were wonderful. Thanks for a great overview!
Good Day. I'm 72. The "Sitcom Days" on TV were wonderful. This was one of the great ones. I can still hear the opening whistling tune. Thank You and Best Regards.
simply the best family television show ever! 🌈 whenever I watch my favorite episode "Opie the Birdman", it never fails to warm my heart! ❤ ❤ ❤
My father was lucky to meet Andy and Danny at a NYC restaurant in 1965. He autographed the menu and said thanks. The thanks meaning how much I enjoyed the show.
A face in the crowd is worth a watch. It is one of my favorite older movies.
I've watched this show since it began. Our cable carries 3 hours of old episodes every day . This show brings a strange comfort to me. Each character is played so well they became real to viewers. I loved the show all those years ago, and I still do. Rest in peace to all those neighbors and friends I made so long ago,..❤ Thank You ...😊
As kids, we did not like Opie because we could not live up to the expectations he put out which made our parents not like us as much as opie
Ron Howard lived in my building. He is a kind and gentle man. Everyone loved him.
Everyone in Mayberry seemed very happy! Everyone in Mayberry was single. Except for one character...Otis the town drunk
Loved this show then and still love it today, I also loved "Happy Days"👍♥️🙏✝️✌️😎
These shows had an integral part to society learning about empathy and morals. I wish they showed these in school to the youngest of our children. Along with Little House On the Prairie.
OLD MAN HERE LOVED IT
Thank you ! "A Face In The Crowd" is one of the greatest American movies, ever.
Don Knotts and Jim Nabors were my two favorite characters. ❤ 😂 😅 😊
I remember Andy, Opie, aunt bee, Barney fife & all the gang. I was just a little kiddo, but I remember all their shows. Thank you for such great memories!!! I still watch then any chance I can.
Im 76 and could have gone to meet my maker without knowing Andy was hated by Oppie. Loved that show and still watch it.
I grew up in Hummelstown PA. back in 1963 - 67. It was my Mayberry with a crik and soda pop machine as well as many other things.
My very first car was a 1964 ford galaxy 500. I traded a tv and a cb radio for it and I thought it was the greatest car ever. 😊
I loved Matlock episode with Andy Griffith and Randy Travis singing together. ❤
This was when family was held in high regards. I miss these days.
That's sad to hear that he wasn't happy about being a child actor, being that he was so great at it. We still love the two most memorable characters he played, Opie and Richie. And as for all the other hats he wore, we will never forget Ron Howard!!!❤❤❤
As a kid in the '60's, I always loved Andy Griffith. My parents even had an album of him telling G-rated jokes!
I still watch The Andy Griffith show today! Every evening I never miss it! It's still one of my favorites! If Ron Howard despise Andy "You could've fooled me" lol
I remember watching this show when I was little . It was a show that we could all watch as a family !! The shows today are so very different from back then . U hv to kw what the shows are rated today before u sit down to enjoy it w/ your family !!
Remember this a TV show/ make believe, it's known as acting. Not everyone that works together, gets along. Period
Andy Griffith Show/Mayberry RFD was actually a spin off from Danny Thomas Show... Danny got a traffic ticket from Andy...
What great memories still of a great sitcom & Ron Howard!! Fan from Massachusetts
Thank you Andy Griffith for all the fun.
My sister in law hated that show because she felt it made the ppl in the south look stupid. I never felt that way and lived the little town life it portrayed. Wish life was still like that. Im from NC and if i remember correctly the show was filmed at Mt Pilot area. Aunt Bee lived in Siler City in NC and lived in the same house untill she passed. It was nothing to drive by her house, looked like any southern home in the area. A lot of towns in NC were just like Mayberry for yrs. Mainly small towns etc. Im proud to be a southerner and really do not care what other ppl think about southerners. U cannot find nicer ppl and ppl that will go out of their way to help others. A good majority of NC excluding some of the big cities r stiil the same in helping others.
Ron Howard is the spitting image of his old man.
When I was in the Navy, I drove from Virginia Beach to my home in North Atlanta. I drove all around North Carolina, and never saw any town like the one in the series. Remember the town in the series had dirt streets. I never saw a town in North Carolina like Mt. Airy.
They treated Child actors like dogs .. look what they did to Judy Garland .. up until 90s kid actors where treated badly .. that’s why they “snapped”
Mayberry was actually based on Mt. Airy NC. VERY spot on
Thank you for all the hard work. I am 59 and love this show.
I REALLY ENJOYED THAT SHOW OPIE WAS A CUTE LITTLE BOY BRINGING BACK MEMORIES
I grew up watching this show…what a shame there was hidden conflict for all those years
A great show and actors in a much simpler time in life!
Thanks for the memories.
I loved the black and white episodes with Barney on it. The ones in color without Barney just sucked
Andy was a giant actor, Face in the Crowd was a master work! Knotts was a war hero. These are the best of people.
Great show growing up with back then and still love it
Ðon Knotts and Jim Nabors were my favorite characters on the show. ❤ 😂 😅 😊
If he wasn't a goofball he wouldn't be Barney Fife! ❤😂😅😊
Have enjoyed this production of Andy Griffith and The Andy Griffith Show. Was a favorite in our house. And yes , I lived in North Carolina... Born and raised there.. Lived that show.Tha m you for this look back ..
Our family still watchs ! 😊
Ron Howard is a master of cinema, who has created groundbreaking and emotional works, enriching the art of filmmaking with his exceptional creativity and talent !
When I need to relax or deviate from the hate and down times, I watch my boxed set and just relaxes me. Love this TV series: no violence but southern humor and a moral to boot. I have my favorites of course and some I don't like but still my all time favorite TV.
Love the show still watch it when it comes on reruns and I loved every single cast and character, as well as the actors and actresses who were the actual singers of the Darling family. One of my favorite songs that they do on the show is There is a Time which I do have downloaded to my phone.
I loved the old commercials. When Fred and Barney shared a pack of Winston's. Menthol!
Great show. I probably saw every episode, many, numerous times.
Ronnie should be grateful for the opportunity he had with Andy Griffith. Without it, he would be where he is now.
Wow! That was a ton of information. Thank you for your hard work and research putting this together.
23 my dad was born in 68 and he always watched this with us kids bc his parents always had the reruns in the TV when he was a kid in the 70s! This show has a special place in my heart
Ron and my oldest brother David were born the exact same day, 3/1/54.
Ron Howard.... One of the finest, most real, of all the child actors.... He added much to the series!!! Opie and Barney are my fav, but all in it are great!
Even though I have seen every episode of the Andy Griffith Show many many times I still watch them. It takes me to another time in my life and in the world. To me, a better time in many ways.
Love the aerial shot of St Andrews University in my hometown, fished and rode bike on the many sidewalks there as a kid, later as a student there, always has a soft spot for St Andrews
That kid was amazing at memorizing his lines!
My favorite character on the show? Ernest T. Bass! Hands down!
Fun fact: Sheldon Leonard, the show's creator, was a role model for the creators of The Big Bang Theory, hence the names of their lead characters: Sheldon Cooper and Leonard Hofstadter.
Andy Griffith was a lovable public persona and a very good actor. My favorite movie of his is "A Face In The Crowd", with co-star Patricia Neal. Anybody who likes him should try to see the film. I also remember that he did a record that was awfully funny. It came out in 1953, about a football game. I found it very clever as a kid.
One of the greatest shows ever.
I know people who worked with Andy. They said he was a mean man.
This was my favorite show growing up. And my favorite adult years were the one's I spent living in small towns.
I knew Aunt Bea and Andy didn’t get along but I didn’t have any idea about Opie and Andy.
Ron did good for himself, he is still friends with Henry aka fonz. I love Ron's movies he produces. Thank you Ron for all the hard work and great movies you made in motion pictures. Thank you.
Loved this show and the characters. I especially loved Opie.
I heard it said that, the main reason why they could portray such a happy town of Mayberry for all those years... was because the only person who was MARRIED was the town drunk.
A little discussed concept in child psychology explores the transformation of every person pre puberty and post puberty. The personality of each of us largely disappears once puberty fully sets in. I think of it as if there is one actor playing the role of each of us from infancy to puberty, then another actor taking over the role as the post puberty person. Some traits we had in those young years carry over, but many disappear. This allows the older version of us to look back on the younger version as they would look at a sibling or person they knew in school.
Never hear Ron hating on Andy Griffiths or Don Knox.... Knox is one of the most naturally funniest Gentlemen .
Interesting video. Loved the show. Still do.
This show came out the year I was borned. My kids watched the reruns in the 90s, along with Leave it to Beaver. Thanks to TV Land.
I grew up in a "Mayberry" that was much smaller than the one on TV. A population of 75 or so if everyone was home. Now there are 5. Pretty much a ghost town. The only thing left is the post office.
Aunt Bee seemed like the type you wouldn't want as a neighbor, glad she made amends before she passed. I think the fact she never married or had kids may have been a big part why she was so uptight.
One of the greatest tv shows ever.
This was too sad to read about I cant believe it. This was one of my favorites too. Im approaching 73 in Aug
My grandsons LOVE LOVE LOVE Don Knotts. We watch his DVDS all the time.
A fictitious town where the only person married was the town drunk.
Thanks Ron Howard, idk what i would have done without growing up watching the Andy Griffith show, and now Bryce Dallas Howard as an adult lol.
Loved watching Gomer Pyle ❤❤!!! I lived in Hawaii in the 70's and 80's, and would see Jim Nabors looking out at his beach house at the ocean!!!
Love this show. My favorite characters were Barney,Opie,Goober, Ernest T Bass & the Darlings. Ernest T was a hot mess. I still watch this show.
I loved it when ‘The Darlings’ came on. Loved Maggie Peterson.
Mr. Howard & I have the same Birthday!- Michael McClary, Professor of Trumpet 🎺, Georgia Perimeter College and GSU 🎉❤❤😅
It is called ACTING, and Ron’s acting fooled the audience. Now, the characters that the actors portrayed will always love each other.
The song, Movie Magic was written about the Andy Griffith's Show Episode; Mayberry Goes Hollywood.
Ron did an endorsement for Barack Obama in 2008 with both Andy and Henry Winkler. Don’t think he would have done that if he still hated him.
I always heard in interviews that Ron and Andy always got along
I grew up on syndicated television. The two personalities if you can learn to jockey between them that will get you the furthest in life are Andy Taylor and Captain Kirk. Be a balance of these two and you can handle anything.
One of my favorite Andy Griffith movies is Rustlers Rhapsody and it remains a classic.
Favorite Andy Griffith episode was "Man in a Hurry.
