At the time people use to unfairly label him as a bit boring, maybe because of the tone of his voice. But if you were truly into f1, you knew he was a massive personality. I know at Silverstone at least, the team directors use to have to tear him away on a night as he just loved chatting with all the fans, back when you could go to the pit areas.
When Nigel said all the memories were flooding back, I choked up. If only Ayrton was still around. If all the classic teams still around gave their old drivers a car to demo, we know there’s a chance a race would break out.

@@Red5_ Mansell had much better cars at disposal tho. Williams he was driving were rockets and he should have won 86' and 87' instead of fumbling it. Senna and Prost wouldnt have lost championships with Fw11. He went from being beaten by DeAngelis for 5 seasons straight to winning 13 races in a span of 2 yrs. Sudden burst of form or a OP car? I say the latter... I actually like Mansell he was entertaining driver and great overtaker that was very fast on his day but Senna and Prost were another level. It showed when Mansell was reduced to number 2 in 1990 next to Alain... That Ferrari was a world champion car yet Mansell didnt even beat Berger in points...
@RyanPerrella
2 ай бұрын
Why was his number red and the other Williams cars white? This happened multiple seasons I believe, an oddity that I never heard a reason for, care to comment on this F1 trivia? Was this after Senna died in 1994 and Nigel took Senna’s number 0 but it was in red for the remainder of 1994? I was thinking this was an Adaptive Suspension FW from 1993 but maybe this is a later car.
@stevencottam5733

@@RyanPerrella I believe it was from 85 when Nigel joined Williams. Rosberg was number 6 so in white the numbers looked similar. Hence red 5. In 94 Nigel had sennas number 2. Hill was 0
So glad to see he's made a full recovery from a melty face and arrow after Jeremy, Richard, and James rescued him from Poland.
Wish he'd won in 86. The years that followed were painful in that his talent went unrecognised. Great performances in 87, the underpowered car in 88, the temperamental Ferrari in 89-90, and the slow start in 91. It all came together finally in 92 - the only downside was that Prost wasn't racing so Nigel never beat him in that sense. I was overwhelmed by Adelaide 94 and Williams should have kept him for 95. What a fantastic racing driver.

@largol33t12 spot on he is still the only driver to hold both world championships at the same time and there aren't many drivers who have won the Indy Car championship in their rookie year, I actually think that season showed his skill and bravery even more than his F1 win, for a start he was not in the quickest car, it was competitive but not the quickest, he won the Indy Car championship on pure talent and bravery, bearing mind all the tracks were new to him too. He does not get enough credit for how good he was. Additionally, he was competing against Senna and Prost 2 of the all time greats in F1.
All my respects from Argentina to Mr. Nigel Mansell, excellent F1 driver and a man with capital letters. Those pilots and people that are hard to find nowadays.
