several years ago a friend called me at work from a charity luncheon & said, “Guess who I’m sitting with?” “I give up, who?” “Kurtwood Smith!” “Red Forman Kurtwood Smith?” “Yeah! That’s him!” “Dude, you’re on crack.” “No, seriously! Here, I’ll put him on the phone” (phone handling noises…”Can you say hi to my friend?” “Sure, what’s his name?” “It’s Eric.” “…perfect”) “Hello?” “Eric, you dumbass…get back to work!” Like I was going to get any work done after that. Wotta guy.

There are a lot of sitcom dads in history that are classic. I always related to Red Forman the most. My dad wasn't necessarily like Red, but Red was a conglomerate of many dads of friends I knew growing up. I saw so many dads in Red. America's Dad.

Kurtwood Smith is such a living legend. Red Foreman is iconic and such a great character, and let's not forget that Kurtwood delivered (maybe the stupidest, but) the greatest line in a scene ever put to film; "Bitches leave." - Clarence Boddicker, RoboCop 1987
I loved Kurtwood in That '70s Show.

Perfect casting. Kurtwood Smith is from Wisconsin so it gave it an authenticity it just wouldn't have had. Grew up in northern Wisconsin and theres a lot of Red Foremans. Charecter felt so real.

That 70's Show's success was largely due to Kurtwood Smith...sure, sure, it was essentially an ensemble cast but without Smith I doubt it would've lasted as long as it did.

I went to high school with one of the creators of the show Bonnie Turner. She was always funny in high school and in plays. She would have been one terrific comedy actress, but was even better writing comedy. Prior to That 70’s Show, her and her husband Terry were writers at Saturday Night Live where they wrote some iconic sketches. Two very talented writers.

Went to a taping of That 70’s Show in the third season to be one of the live studio members. Insanely cool experience that felt so surreal to be there in person. They shot every scene twice. Ashton’s entrance made everyone lose their minds. Kurtwood and Tommy Chong came up to the area we were sitting and talked with everyone many times. Tommy signed some Zig Zag papers. I still have the papers. They handed out autographed scripts to the audience members that laughed the most and best. I’ll never forget being there. Only show I ever went to see live like that. Kurtwood and Tommy will always remembered fondly. Good dudes.
“C’mon Sal, Tigers are playing…tonight. I never miss a game.” -Clarence Boddicker
Kurtwood Smith on that 70’s show and Stacey Keach on Titus always reminded me of my dad. They both played such no nonsense fathers in the shows.
Wonder if he rolled up in a SUX 6000.😎

That's honestly what I remember him from most. Never really watched That 70s Show, but his acting in DPS was superb, especially after his son takes his own life. There's a shot of the guys slippers at a perfect 90 degree angle beside his bed, and that was a perfect metaphor for his character: totally rigid and intolerant.
Red really stole a helluva lot of scenes in that show 🤣 PS- glad to see Kurtwood still pluggin a long 💕💕
He looks great for 81
Red Foreman is an American Treasure! Love him

That show wouldn't be NEAR the same as it was without him as Red. He really tied it together. He was 1 of the main 3 I'd say.
Between Robocop and 70s Show, Kurtwood Smith just casually dropped a pair of inimitable performances for the ages. Fantastic!
❤ I miss That 70's Show and Kirkwood was the Best Dad Ever on that show!!! He was gruff, yet He had a heart ❤️ It Really Reminded Me of My Own Dad, who passed away in 1995❤

I laugh just thinking about his character in That 70's Show. Best casting ever.
His role in Dead Poet's Society made me irrationally dislike him and every character he played for awhile. 😅
Holy moly. Dude's 80.
He wasn't that 70s show man when he did robocop.
Best part of the show!
70's dads rule!
Ever character in that show was a real person I knew when I was a teenager back in the 70s.
It's hilarious how age affects perception. When I was young and watching That 70's Show when it aired, I associated most with Eric. Watching it as an adult and a father, Red Foreman is my favorite character.
Is Red Forman one of the top-10 TV dads of all time? No. Hes top-3, easy. He's my #1. It's absolutely one of my favorite shows ever. I actually put it on while I'm driving. I've seen the episode so many times that I don't have to watch them, I listen to them the same way you listen to old time radio shows. I love it.

Between RoboCop and Dead Poets Society this guy scared the crap out of me in the 80's
