The MJCast 010: Vindication Day 10th Anniversary Special With Tom Mesereau

To mark this important occasion, the 10th anniversary of Michael Jackson’s acquittal from false child molestation allegations on June 13th, 2005, we are releasing this special episode. The MJCast’s Legal Correspondent Charles Thomson along with regular hosts Jamon Bull and Q interview Thomas Mesereau, one of the foremost criminal defence attorney’s in United States legal history. Mesereau served as Michael’s principal attorney during his mid 2000’s criminal trial around false child molestation allegations and continued representing Jackson and his affairs for a time afterwards. Ten years ago today Jackson was acquitted of all fourteen charges brought against him by the Arvizo family and their prosecuting lawyer, Santa Barbara Country District Attorney Tom Sneddon. In addition to Michael’s obvious innocence, his vindication and exoneration are also due to the professionalism and efforts of Tom Mesereau and his then legal partner Susan Yu. Topics of discussion include Mesereau’s childhood, his history as a lawyer, what it was like working with Michael Jackson and also the trial itself. We then delve into a dialogue around Jackson’s posthumous legacy, the legitimacy of his Estate executors, the events surrounding his death and what Michael Jackson’s victory in 2005 has meant for his legacy long term. If you have any thoughts, opinions, or feedback on the show, we’d love to hear from you. Contact us at themjcast@icloud.com or find the links to our many social networks on www.themjcast.com. We hope you enjoy this special episode of our Michael Jackson podcast, The MJCast. Keep Michaeling!

I remember the day Michael was proven innocent. In Birmingham AL I was shopping in Macy's and everyone was grouped together in front of tvs in the store. Everyone was screaming and shouting with Happiness and excitement that he was vindicated. I love MJ and Janet. Big Jackson fans in the south!!

I’m from south AL, I was 13 at the time, but yes I agree, tons of Michael fans down here that don’t buy into the BS at all. That’s not to say I haven’t had many discussions with ignorant people, BUT usually people show a ton of respect for Michael. Lot of racism and phobia down here, but also a ton of love and passion as well.

Tom Mesereau is a Great Man. The way he speaks about MJ is almost like a saint. It is rare that a lawyer is so sure of his client's innocence and even defends his innocence and his character to this day, without being involved with his family or his estate. This is a man of honor and speaks from experience and people need to listen to him when in doubt.

Simply Brilliant Interview. The single best interview with Mr. Mesereau I've heard. Insightful, respectful and in depth questions with no rush in getting to a direct answer, conversations are relaxed and explained in depth. This is exactly the type of information the media have tried so hard to suppress. Cannot thank the MJCast enough for bringing this and Mr. Mesereau for taking the time to explain it all. For a criminal lawyer to defend a client over 15 years after the trial and a decade after his passing even after I'm sure the media offering him much money to snitch on Michael speaks volumes of Mr. Mesereau character and Michael's innocence.

It's not hard to figure out that the media is up to no good, but this discussion and interview really lays it all bare. Amidst the growth of the internet and social media there's no doubt that the mainstream media, Hollywood, tv, and the concept of "celebrity" in general are all in their death throws. But we aren't completely beyond it all yet unfortunately. It's great that we can now listen to talks like this and I look forward to the day a complete revolution on all monetized media has dawned. We shouldn't have to sort through anything but the facts in order to understand the life and character of Michael Jackson.

A great Tom Mesereau interview. I have to agree with him. The Michael Jackson trial was indeed a civil rights trial. So many of MJ's constitutional rights were stompped upon by the police and the prosecution. I am glad that he did mention in this podcast that judge Melville was biased towards the prosecution. I read several of the transcripts from the trial, not all, and I did come away with that impression. It's so unfair that Michael had to go through all of those things that he was forced to go through. They all presumed his guilt and did not really look at the evidence. Michael had claimed in his "They Don't Care about US" song that they could never break him. They did break him though. He was strong, but at the end the day, he was also human. He could only take on so much hate, mistreatment and abuse. It's disturbing, but it's also proof that the US still has a long way to go, until it achieves the proclamations that we set out in the constitution.

Love this very honest and fresh interview! A real lawyer that is really concerned about people getting justice and vindicated for crimes they did not commit. Michael Jackson's problems did not start with this trial, however. His problems started with acquiring the sony catalog. He beat the evil forces at their own game. He was brilliant in realizing that Black people had been ripped off for centuries, over their masters, and owning their music, and he said enough is enough! He broke all barriers, including, breaking down the wall of MTV. They did not want Black entertainers on their station, and Michael kicked the door down! He made them put him on after the brilliant videos he created. The powers to be were upset at his boldness, and he became a mark man. If you pay attention to the time line, after the boldness of purchasing the Sony catalog, and then going out publicly against Tommy Matola, that is when all the BS began. The lies of child molestation, the lies of him being broke, and so many negative innuendos, that all rumors ran a muck! Mr Mesereau was brave to come out and not only defend Michael Jackson in the court room, but also he defended him in the public court. I just wish people would stop listening to the media and do the research and READ! It is fundamental! I will always look at Michael and Mr Mesereau, as heroes. They go against the world for true justice, and we can only pray that others do the same!

He is like Jesus who suffered a lot inspite of his charitable deeds to mankind . Offered his both hands to help the needy and this is the price. To mention the root for all of this sacrifices of MJ was the TABLOID who ruined his entire life. Until this time when MJ 's death Anniversary still the media uses the allegations to earn money. How awful they are ! I really believe in the saying that "Money is the root of all evil". Anyway again thank you so much MJ Cast. Continue your generous deed . You mean the media mistreated him. All of his fans supported him and loved him unconditionally. I was outside at the trial every single day. So I don't know where you say we didn't appreciate Michael !!!

Oh Tom Mesereau is quite simply an angel on earth. Not just another money hungry, fascist attorney. He genuinely cares for others, and has represented Michael's defence, not just during the 2005 trial, but STILL defends him and is the only one in his field (other than Susan) who never stops defending Michael. Takes TIME out, FREELY, to give us insight into the actual happenings in the trial, not just leaving it at the courtroom or leave it up to the media with their relentless, biased, one sided, negative views to tell us the TRUE stories. He still ans says he will always take on the witch-hunting media and disgusting liars to defend Michael. He doesn't have to, but he NEVER stops defending Michael, WITHOUT any payment, does not to it to glorify himself or for ANY personal gain. This man's only agenda? Is that he purely and genuinely WANTS to speak out against the INJUSTICE toward Mike even all these years later, even though Michael is no longer here... ALL lawyers should take a leaf out of his book. And his book should be called "SELFLESS". I think I can speak for The whole MJ Family/MJJ Community when I say WE SALUTE, LOVE and THANK you for never wavering and for your continued, unconditional support for MJ, his family, friends AND we, his fans. LOVE YOU SO MUCH, TOM MESEREAU! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

33:08 I mean, just listen to this. The judge tried to get at LEAST something from this case, knowing from the beginning that they could lose it in general. My point is HOW this ridiculousness had passed to the court??????!

Sad how Jay Leno didn't want help and pArticipate in the case for Michael. Especially in view of how he too had been approached by Galvin's family. I recall he asked the judge to lighten the gag order; on the witnesses ( himself in particular ) so that he could use things/info related to the case on his Tonight show montage.

Very interesting! I have difficulty sleeping and sometimes let KZread run so I got this show accidentally. When the trial was going on I believed M.J. was innocent. I am not a huge fan of his art but had a strong feeling it was a trumped up case. I also find interviews on "Leaving Neverland" to sound false. I find no credence in the young men with their belated accusations, especially after one of them testified under oath to the opposite of what he now claims!

Michael was battered. It is this what killed him. Michael could not sleep anymore, which is to be expected, Michael could not focus anymore on his job etc. The he was given stuff to sleep so Michael could focus on working for the tour. They, his managers did not listen to Michael who wanted to only do a handful of gigs, overbooked him, selling tickets and forced Michel into doing all those gigs. They, killed Michael with their greed, lies and lust for money they could get out of Michael. They, countless of people took part in the process of killing Michael and some people would love to do it again. One day Michaels accusers will lay on their death bed, will die naked and alone and in fear of what the demons will do to them. Also, one day the truth will come out. So now that I got this off my chest, I will watch the video.
