At UFC 259, Petr Yan landed an illegal knee to the face of Aljamain Sterling and ever since then, the former champion has been on a downward spiral.
Let's take a look at the single mistake that changed Petr Yan's career forever.
Now facing Merab Dvalishvili on march 11th, we'll see if a comeback is possible.

    I recommend looking at the strikes. Sean landed 2-3x more sig head strikes than Yan in round 1 and 3. In round 3 the strike diff is HUGE. I don't think controlling a round with takedowns for 20% of a round when 80% of it was spent striking where Yan lost, means Yan wins that round, just doesnt make sense.. I'd lean towards Sean winning, but honestly a draw is a completely viable option. I honestly think that anyone that says its a clear win for Petr or thinks Petr won 3 rounds has no clue about judging.

    No easy fights in the Bantamweight division. These last two fights have shown that Petr Yan, isn't the best 135'er in the world and we overestimated how good he actually was. The problem with Petr I feel is that he's not evolving, he's the same fighter now as he was when he captured the belt in 2020 and when that's the case he will get figured out, which is already happening. What's worse, for whatever reason Petr is still seen as 'the guy' in the division by many contenders, not Aljamain even though he's the champion which means they're all training to fight Petr in the future in the hopes of beating him. I foresee more losses on the horizon for Petr Yan.

    Man i feel for yan, the amount of hardwork this guy puts in is crazy, hes so passionate about fighting and cares for the people around him, the UFC really have done him dirty but this could go two ways now, either Yan is so mentally drained after these losses that he might have lost his killer instinct or these unfair robberies have fueled his killer instinct to never leave it in the judges hands i hope its the latter because Yan is one of those fighters that give me gladiator vibes something only a few fighters possess.

  • @madgavin7568

    @madgavin7568

    Жыл бұрын

    How did the UFC 'do him dirty'? They played no part in the judges decisions. They gifted him a title opportunity over Aljamain Sterling who was far more deserving of one in 2020 against an aging Jose Aldo. They granted him an immediate rematch once the DQ happened, he was given an interim title against a short-notice Cory Sandhagen. The UFC REALLY WANTED him to beat Sterling in the rematch, but Sterling won fair and square. They gave him the opportunity to get more fans against Sean O'Malley, and again he lost fair and square. These two losses were not robberies, he did not dominate the fights or get shafted, his opponents were competitive enough to win enough rounds from him to get the win. The UFC have done plenty to promote and elevate Yan, he just hasn't lived up to their expectations, and especially not the fan expectations. Even in the case of the O'Malley fight where the UFC wanted Suga to win, it would have been no loss had Yan won so long as Suga showed up.

Would’ve fought Dillashaw. Then he’d be looking towards Merab or Chito. That’s not how the dice rolled though. I hope he goes on a crazy finishing streak from here on out to get the belt back. • @madgavin7568

    I honestly think we have seen the best of Petr Yan, at least in terms of accolades. He reached the precipice twice by winning the belt, but failed to live up to expectations by defending it or getting clear cut win over a top contender (for now). While its true we haven't seen the last of him, I don't think he's going to get another title shot, let alone become champion again. The division is too stacked, contrary to what some say he's not a particularly dominant fighter and he's not evolving which means contenders are figuring him out.

    @@ppvplug3940 Sterling won 2 rounds in their first fight, Yan took over because Sterling gassed terribly after trying to execute a flawed game-plan (plus dude needed neck surgery). The 4th round was probably going to be a 10-8 for Yan had it lasted that long, but my argument still stands. It was not a dominant performance by Yan, if anything it was more competitive than what fans give it credit for. The difference between Chito and Umar is that while Chito has the wins, I wouldn't describe him as the most talented fighter in the division. While for Umar its the opposite, he doesn't have the wins but the talent/potential he has is enormous. Umar might end up becoming the guy we expected Yan to be, he's a Nurmagomedov from Eagle MMA/AKA after all. If I were a Yan fan, I'd stop underestimating his opponents from now on. Its clear he's not the best guy in the division, nor will he ever dominate the division.
