At UFC 259, Petr Yan landed an illegal knee to the face of Aljamain Sterling and ever since then, the former champion has been on a downward spiral.
Let's take a look at the single mistake that changed Petr Yan's career forever.
Now facing Merab Dvalishvili on march 11th, we'll see if a comeback is possible.

I recommend looking at the strikes. Sean landed 2-3x more sig head strikes than Yan in round 1 and 3. In round 3 the strike diff is HUGE. I don't think controlling a round with takedowns for 20% of a round when 80% of it was spent striking where Yan lost, means Yan wins that round, just doesnt make sense.. I'd lean towards Sean winning, but honestly a draw is a completely viable option. I honestly think that anyone that says its a clear win for Petr or thinks Petr won 3 rounds has no clue about judging.

No easy fights in the Bantamweight division. These last two fights have shown that Petr Yan, isn't the best 135'er in the world and we overestimated how good he actually was. The problem with Petr I feel is that he's not evolving, he's the same fighter now as he was when he captured the belt in 2020 and when that's the case he will get figured out, which is already happening. What's worse, for whatever reason Petr is still seen as 'the guy' in the division by many contenders, not Aljamain even though he's the champion which means they're all training to fight Petr in the future in the hopes of beating him. Man your story telling is on another level! Great video!
Man i feel for yan, the amount of hardwork this guy puts in is crazy, hes so passionate about fighting and cares for the people around him, the UFC really have done him dirty but this could go two ways now, either Yan is so mentally drained after these losses that he might have lost his killer instinct or these unfair robberies have fueled his killer instinct to never leave it in the judges hands i hope its the latter because Yan is one of those fighters that give me gladiator vibes something only a few fighters possess.
@madgavin7568
Жыл бұрын
How did the UFC 'do him dirty'? They played no part in the judges decisions. They gifted him a title opportunity over Aljamain Sterling who was far more deserving of one in 2020 against an aging Jose Aldo. They granted him an immediate rematch once the DQ happened, he was given an interim title against a short-notice Cory Sandhagen. The UFC REALLY WANTED him to beat Sterling in the rematch, but Sterling won fair and square. They gave him the opportunity to get more fans against Sean O'Malley, and again he lost fair and square. These two losses were not robberies, he did not dominate the fights or get shafted, his opponents were competitive enough to win enough rounds from him to get the win. The UFC have done plenty to promote and elevate Yan, he just hasn't lived up to their expectations, and especially not the fan expectations. Even in the case of the O'Malley fight where the UFC wanted Suga to win, it would have been no loss had Yan won so long as Suga showed up.

Not better than Aljo. Aljo proved himself the best 135er when he beat Yan cleanly in the 2nd fight. Yan can still make a run and possibly get the belt again though.
Why? O'Malley is far more marketable for the UFC. He's on social media, speaks english, etc etc. Like the Pimblett fight, the UFC is not in the business of honoring skilled fighters, they are more interested in who can bring in more money if they can get away with it like when these fights went to decision.

O'Malley is actually a very talented though and has shown himself to be a very good fighter. its crazy but i think fans tend to know enough about the situation to know yan is still easily the baddest bantamweight fighter in the division on most nights. The bigger issue i feel like his situation reiterates tho is that of judging in the ufc, these guys make their livelihoods off of fighting, without a consistent metric for the amount of effort they put in a sacrifice in the ring, these fighters will be undersold time and time again

I honestly think we have seen the best of Petr Yan, at least in terms of accolades. He reached the precipice twice by winning the belt, but failed to live up to expectations by defending it or getting clear cut win over a top contender (for now). While its true we haven't seen the last of him, I don't think he's going to get another title shot, let alone become champion again. Plus he had a razor thin fight with O’Malley, and we’re yet to see more from umar, how are you gonna say you need to see more from chito and not umar ? Lol, by the way merab ain’t controlling yan, I’ll come back and bet you if they make it happen

@@ppvplug3940 Sterling won 2 rounds in their first fight, Yan took over because Sterling gassed terribly after trying to execute a flawed game-plan (plus dude needed neck surgery). The 4th round was probably going to be a 10-8 for Yan had it lasted that long, but my argument still stands. It was not a dominant performance by Yan, if anything it was more competitive than what fans give it credit for. The difference between Chito and Umar is that while Chito has the wins, I wouldn't describe him as the most talented fighter in the division. While for Umar its the opposite, he doesn't have the wins but the talent/potential he has is enormous. Umar might end up becoming the guy we expected Yan to be, he's a Nurmagomedov from Eagle MMA/AKA after all. If I were a Yan fan, I'd stop underestimating his opponents from now on. Its clear he's not the best guy in the division, nor will he ever dominate the division.
I think Yan definitely still has a chance to go back to championship whether with the UFC or another promotion
I wanna see yan vs cruz next. Both coming off loses but both still could beat anyone in the division.
Yadong Song vs Petr Yan is the fight to make 👨🏻🦯
whats that first music backroundtrack name? please
Bantamweight,Lightweight and Welterweight are definitely by far the hottest divisions coming into 2023.
Still have him as the best BW in the world but life has done petr dirty. the 2nd also fight, although he did lose the first round by the smallest margins, the 4th and 5th rounds were so dominant compared to aljos 2nd and 3rd rounds. Then o'malley, a straight up robbery. When u ask dana what the score was and he refuses to give an answer, you know his cash cow antics are there, same thing with paddy.

Get real. Many fans even believe the 2nd round could've been a 10-8.

@@Eyeofthetiger69 i am real, what makes this even funnier for me cuz i know im right, yan still outlanded sterling in this fight. so with a 10-8 for sterlings 2nd round, if it was somehow "dominant" for sterling, than yans gotta have a 10-8 with that logic.

@@macha2068 Wait, wait, wait… How can the 4th and 5th round even be considered “dominant”. Sure, Yan did VERY well in those rounds and was more successful than Aljo but dominant? He was never close to finishing Aljo nor did he display the same level of control of the action as Sterling did. The only round that was dominated by any one party was the 2nd round that was won by Aljo.

@@24HOWTOGLOW i said using ur logic, if yan statistically does better, and damage wise, then with YOUR logic, yan has a 10-8. in other words, using not ur logic, there were no 10-8s but yan performed MUCH better.

@@macha2068 how did yan perform better.... defending aljos takedowns🤣🤣🤣🤣
Karmic action in work w that illegal knee.
Forgot a huge detail that Yan didn’t have his corner with him in the Sterling rematch
The same people that said Aljamain won by control are the same people that say Petr did nothing with the control time against Sean:))))

Nah I think both but judges don't care about control time no more
His technique is amazing. He has the potential to be the best again. When your in a war with a man, i understand the accident knee happening. i don't think he should be penalized so hard.
I don’t really feel like you can count someone out after a close decision.
Scoring needs to be a hybrid of wrestling and boxing. Enough with the style points.
