The Missing Shrines, is the legend of General Yamashita’s gold true? | History Mysteries EP8

Ойын-сауық

Is the legend of General Yamashita’s gold buried in a Shinto shrine deep within the forest of MacRitchie reservoir true? What other Shinto shrine was built and then subsequently demolished in Singapore during World War 2? Adrian delves into the urban legend to see what he’s able to dig up.

Why did NParks reject the application to enter MacRitchie Park in search of the remnants of the shrine, for this documentary is beyond me 🤦🏻‍♂️ At the end of the day, its for our knowledge to our own history & im pretty sure, Adrian & his team will take whatever necessary steps to avoid getting lost or result in any injury. I hope NParks will reconsider his request to enter, after all there is already an imposition of a Fine for those who enter the said area of MacRitchie Reservoir

Probably they didn’t want to reveal too much of the area in case many people wants to go there

Because if they were to open to people, a lot of people would want to go and visit and they might get lost. This means more work for them or the police.

U know the memorial in Singapore is way better preserved. The Japanese built a war memorial in Hong Kong , and after the war, there was a literal party for its destruction

I have been to the Japanese shrine in the Mcritchie forest three times, way before the band was enforced some years ago.. really tough environment inside, the steps were there, the bath still there n the wall was still there. The ground of the temple place will all reck up, showing signs of explosive destruction, by the Japanese at the end of war! Then, there was a machine gun post, and a trench, fill with water! Quite a spooky place.😀

Many years back and before I joined a tour to Shantung, I went to Nautre Park nearby to build my stamina and explore.I went right up above the quarry pond to enjoy the beautiful sight up there.Out of curiosity I climbed up a steep hill and through a gap to discover a historical description of a shinto shrine. which was supposed to.be atop the steps where the transmission tower. stood.I was dusappointed ut was gone but I have dine research on the invasion and was told by an old neighbour that prisobers of war buikd8ng the Macrutchie shre and working at Sine Riad were pitifully skinny and scrawny beyond their and description. In fact, the imperial army pushing through the forest to Eng Neo Avenue and massacred the villagers who.dudnt escaoed was the final.battke ground befire The British surrendered and signed it at Ford Factory between general Yamashita and General Percival the next day.

Most are in Philippines in secret tunnels. Gold hunter found one of the tunnels, but President Marcos forced him to tell where it is, and then Marcos took the gold and became so rich. The guy sued Marcos and won the case in an international court. Some of the other tunnels were found by the American army after WW2, they interrogated Yamashita's driver after Yam was sentenced to death for war crimes. Usa shared the trillions worth of gold with Japan. This is how japan built itself up from the dust of WW2 bombings to become number 2 to usa in the 1980s. This is all in a book. There are also documentaries made about the big Buddha statue that the Filipino gold hunter found that alerted marcos of the treasure.

@@canopyfields Yes there were documentaries that research on this. Japan could become number 2 economy in just decades after severe destruction in their country, all thanks to the gold they plundered from all over Asia with US helping them keep the loot. Despicable countries pretending to be heroes.

appreciate the history journalism, but the paranormal investigation part really made me feel like saying "grow up". especially the face in the first clip, it moves in relation to the camera and not the world, and it overla[s the guy's arm, but i guess this is mediacorp, it's all just entertainment, although standards seem pretty low lol
