The Mini Octo ASL

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

It's been just shy of a decade since I've posted a video filmed in Yorba Linda, and here I am, just up the road from where I grew up on the Tuesday route. Pretty cool to see that after all these years, this little truck and its twin are still part of the fleet even though they're well over 10 years old at this point.
Thanks to the awesome driver. And no, he doesn't usually run it this quickly, he was just putting on a good show for us. What a treat!

    Who would've thought that after 20 years, Republic still has this amrep running! I'm still impressed with how Harvey makes this oldie roar, considering the fact that the newer ones will shut off if they try revving them. Any old Disposal Services era truck are goodies!

    These trucks are just awesome! I love that the driver was just launching Rotos into the next dimension. Can't believe they are already 10 years old, I feel like I remember seeing them on KZread when they were only a few years old.

    Thanks! It was definitely a ton of fun to see in person, especially picking up the 60 gals with lid stops. Idk the exact age of these, but I'm pretty certain they're actually pushing 20 years old now. They were at or near 10 years old the first time I filmed them. Small specialty trucks like this dont typically follow the same 10 year retirement timeline as full size equipment. Glad you enjoyed it

    Well to put it simply: That was f*****g awesome. I know everyone is talking about the zip and arm speed but this thing sounded way better than I expected it to. As another person said I’m amazed these Anaheim Amreps are still going strong in 2020. Man I would almost swear this guy is straight out of the G.I revving course lol. Will be watching this one again that’s for sure

    Legend has it this truck has launched a roto into orbit... Must have been pretty cool seeing this truck still working a route after all these years. I was surprised they were still running these back when I filmed this one in 2017, and even more dumbfounded they are still running them today considering what has become of the rest of this yard's fleet. Certainly more fun watching it fly though a denser route such as this one rather than up in the hills. Appears this truck took a good beating that day, but definitely not for the lack of our enjoyment!

    Haha if not the whole cart, a few lids have certainly entered orbit no doubt. Yeah these little minis are given a pass since they're so hard to get replacements for. Plus with the exempt plates I doubt they're in a hurry to give that up since new trucks will have to be registered normally. When I heard it was possibly going to be out on the normal routes doing help I knew I had to come out to see it. Fortunately it did end up being the truck he used. Been a long time that I've wanted to see the little first gens get whipped by this thing so that was fun. Seems it gets a workout every time it gets filmed, which apparently is far more times than I knew about until now lol glad you enjoyed it.

    Holy fuck that was amazing. This driver sure knows how to get any truck moving, I watched Easton’s vid of the rapid rail sometime back and again I was fascinated. Some of the cycles were 4 seconds! Funny seeing the hydraulic hose bounce down after some cycles haha. Seeing this makes me wish the LA diesel minis ran like this, it would definitely give these Republic versions a run for their money ;) great post Mike, really is nostalgic and awesome to see you filming from your origin in Yorba Linda.

    Great video! I've seen this driver many times, he never disappoints haha. It's crazy that despite all these years, Republic still managed to keep their old Minis, and many of the same drivers you used to see 10 years ago still work in the city today. I was actually in Yorba Linda the same day you filmed this lol, but I was only able to stick around in the morning. Easton told me later that this truck was helping out.

    3:28 the cart basically didn't stop moving and nothing spilled, so I think the people at 4:34 have some explaining to do. definitely impressive work considering the three levers, I wonder if he's just compensating for being in a little truck though. were those grippers custom bent by Republic? they seem extra curvy, but work super well with all the first gens which, I might add, are standing up to a lot of abuse in the two decades that I'm sure they've been on the streets. 5:28 is that a custom cart tipper on the side of the dumpster truck? big ass mudflap and some extra rubber bumpers... fun to finally watch this in entirety, good job Mike.

    yes that is a tipper, Anaheim's scout/supervisor trucks for the most part have tippers to do missed stops.

    Great Video Mike! Harvey really is the only driver who can run the truck this good, really satisfying how perfect those 60 first gens get gripped. Couldn’t believe how much spillage there was at 13:02. Lots of really awesome dump cycles in this video really great work on this one!

    Very odd to see EXEMPT Plates on this. Are these trucks owned by the City and leased to Republic as part of the contract?

  • @3amrepmike3

    @3amrepmike3

    4 жыл бұрын

    Very observant! I believe so. Back in the day their entire fleet was exempt, back when the trucks all said Yorba Linda Disposal. Same with Brea, Anaheim, Garden Grove & so on. As far as I know, these 2 mini Amreps are the only trucks from that era still in service and they still have the Exempt status. The trucks all had a destruction clause on them too at 10 years, and the scrap price to be recieved for them was even predetermined. The city technically owns all the Rotos too, but not the injection molded carts. Republic has been actively ending the city ownerships through their contracts with every contract renewal. As far as I can tell, Chino Hills was the last to give up that status and only just this past year allowed Republic to stop buying Rotos with the city name on them.

  • @3amrepmike3

    @3amrepmike3

    So yeah, just got confirmation that the cities each owned the trucks and carts, and Taormina just operated them. Then after Republic took over that slowly changed.

    Fuckin Garbage Trucks part 1 Heil 7000 vibes. Obscene speed, how it jerks pulling off, the tract housing route and everything. Wonder if the arm could be engineered to last at least a few months run like this, absorb as much shock out of the cycle as possible. Like those spring bumpers the PB loader dump truck things have at the hopper end of the cycle, maybe the rubber Pac Tech chain thing.
