    Micah represents the naked reality of an outlaw in the old west, a man without honor, without morals, who would sacrifice everyone around him to save his own skin and who lives only for money. On the other side, we have Arthur, John and Dutch, who is the idealized Hollywood vision of an outlaw from the old west, they are men of honor, who have their moral codes and who would sacrifice themselves for the lives of others. Arthur, John and some members of the group don't like Micah because Micah's personality makes them face the harsh reality that they are just a group of criminals who steal and kill to survive and that their ideologies are nothing more than facades to justify their actions. And it is these two conflicting visions that end up causing the group to break up and Micah ends up winning because in the end, he survives. If there was no RDR1, Micah would be the only one who would come out of this whole mess alive.

    He might of outlasted the rest of the gang but still would have eventually been hunted down and killed by the Pinkertons, bounty hunter's, or someone seeking revenge. The fact that he couldn't just stop drawing attention to himself and dissappear when he had enough money proves he loved what he was and just wasn't in it for money. Most everyone else in the gang just wanted a way out of the criminal life as soon as they had the money and opportunity, the rest were too loyal and faithful to Dutch to leave when they had the chance

    The story of Michael Bell Jr., commonly known as Micah, is one that traverses the realms of crime, manipulation, and betrayal. Born in the year 1860, Micah's life was marred by his criminal upbringing, a sinister legacy passed down from his father. This essay delves into the intricate details of Micah's life, from his early days immersed in violence to his final showdown atop Mount Hagen. Micah's early life was heavily influenced by the toxic environment perpetuated by his father, Michael Bell Jr. Growing up under the shadow of his father's violent acts, Micah was exposed to criminal activities from a tender age. The chilling association of father and son in committing robberies and violent acts showcases the warped sense of normalcy that shaped Micah's worldview. The gruesome act of killing a family and robbing the very ranch that employed them underscores the depths to which Micah's criminal tendencies were ingrained. It was within the notorious Vanderlin Gang, led by the charismatic Dutch van der Linde, that Micah found his place in the criminal world. However, even within the confines of this gang, his relationships were marked by strife. His relationship with his brother Amos was strained, a testament to the volatile dynamics that Micah brought wherever he went. His reputation for manipulation and betrayal soon took center stage, as he cunningly worked alongside the Pinkertons, effectively betraying the gang that had taken him in. Micah's capacity for manipulation was evident not only in his actions but also in his ability to influence the decisions of those around him. His whispers in Dutch's ear acted as a toxic undercurrent, steering the gang's trajectory towards conflict and turmoil. This internal strife was further fueled by Micah's jealousy, particularly directed at Arthur, a prominent member of the gang. This jealousy, coupled with his apathetic demeanor, exemplified his selfishness and lack of remorse for the chaos he sowed. The climax of Micah's tale occurred atop Mount Hagen, where the Vanderlin Gang, plagued by internal divisions, faced its reckoning. This showdown marked the culmination of a narrative defined by Micah's manipulation and betrayal. In the midst of this confrontation, Micah met his demise, a fitting end to a life marred by violence and treachery. Micah's character was multifaceted, defined by a history of criminality and an intricate web of emotions. His actions left an indelible mark on those around him, leading to significant consequences for the Vanderlin Gang. Even in the aftermath of his death, Micah's legacy endured as he formed his own gang, perpetuating a cycle of criminal activities. In conclusion, the story of Micah Bell Jr. is a tale of complexities and contradictions. From a tumultuous upbringing defined by criminal influences to his eventual role as a manipulative traitor within the Vanderlin Gang, Micah's life journey encapsulated a dark side of humanity. His actions, driven by selfishness, jealousy, and manipulation, contributed significantly to the downfall of the gang he was once a part of. Micah Bell Jr.'s narrative serves as a stark reminder of the destructive power of manipulation and betrayal in the midst of criminality.

    Micah, oh Micah, how i loathe thee. Let me count the ways. His bald- faced steed is a hint to him being a bald-faced liar. Every word he utters is manipulation, sarcasm, or an outright contradiction ("Heee's lyyyyying!") How did "Skinny" Norman have Micah's guns? Unless... he was there when it broke out with the Odriscolls. He certainly didn't walk into the Sheriffs office to retrieve them. Micah mentions how Skinny was going to let him hang. So..,Skinny was a witness and could have said something to exonerate Micah, but didnt. Which might mean that Micah didnt kill the Odriscolls but was being arrested for it. They would've disarmed Micah in the arrest leaving them behind to be picked up by Skinny. The sheriff put Micah and the Odriscoll in the same cell. They would only do that if they came in together; arrested for the same thing. If they were antagonistic, why wouldn't they separate them? Also leads to the reason Micah shot the Odriscoll, so it didnt get out of his involvement with them. After Strawberry, Micah then leads Arthur to Lone Mule Stead, which is the same place the Odriscolls take Arthur later and tortured him. Coincidence? I think not. Foreshadowing. Micah's next mission reveals the Dutch bounty newspaper scrap. Foreshadowing his involvement with Colm in "Blessed are the Peacekeepers" mission. When Micah takes Arthur to the lookout point for the stagecoach, he reveals a lot of information about the Odriscolls. Even taking Arthur to a spot where their hideout is visible (Hanging Dog is in the background). And during "Blessed are the Peacemakers" Colm spells out their plan exaclty as Micah would've. In all of Ch6, Micah is framed around Dutch as the evil whispering in his ear. Arthur is framed as the voice of reason, his conscience, like Hosea. After killing Cornwall and eacaping, Micah is sitting atop his horse bathed in sunlight, signaling his win over Dutch's conscience and soul.

    @ donnikubbitz Pretty sure that's not what was happening in that scene. Remember what was happening prior to their arrival? It's more likely he lifted the cellar door she was in and she lunged out to get whoever opened that door. She had no idea who was who, just that her home was invaded. If you follow him around instead of doing what you're told, he pokes around the house. The scene won't trigger til you do your task, implying there isn't enough time between the cellar opening and Sadie bursting out for that.

    Micah is a survivor. He wasnt wrong about how everyone who doesn’t contribute to the camp shouldn’t bother living there. People like Molly, Uncle, Kieran, and reverend Swanson are too him leeches. Parasites. Yeah the whole Blackwater money obsesses Micah so much that he attempts to convince Dutch and the gang to go back there. He was meant to use the gang for that Blackwater heist money and that went sour and well on the run. Truly when he didn’t get his money, he tries to be most loyal to Dutch that he takes second in command over Arthur later on. When coming back to Guarma and the gang refusing to go back to Blackwater, this is where Micah realizes that he won’t get the money and would meet up with agent Milton and decide to inform about their activities and of course led the gang into a shootout. Then and there. Dudes about the money. And power and nothing else. He doesn’t have the speech skills and charisma on par with Dutch to do so.

    I might be looking too much into a small detail, but I havent heard anyone mention it yet. Micah is almost always wearing something green around his neck, and even has a black coat early on. Which all ol driscols have green scarves or bandanas. So him being in a situation to save Dutch before our part of the story starts may be much more than an accident. I mean he knew exactly who Dutch was. And we know the ol driscols were working with the Pinkertons at one point. So working all sides is something I could see colms trying to do, and Micah being a sociopath could easily justify killing his own gang to maintain cover. I can hear him saying, Wellllllll, if I dont shoot them, someone else would have been here in my spot. lol

    What I hate about Micah is his betrayal. Because there was no reason for it. We are aware that he wants the blackwater money, that's why he needs Dutch and tries to convince him to get the stash. If that's the case, why betray Dutch? That only makes things harder because with high honor ending (canon ending) we see that Dutch is confused and refuses to join Micah, later it even leads to Micah's demise. Seems pretty stupid to sabotage your own plan. Why betray the gang in the first place? He achieves absolutely nothing and makes Dutch more suspicious of him. Micah is a cold, annoying guy who only cares about results and money, we all know that. You'd think that a traitor would pretend to be a person who values the gang, who is helpful etc. because it's less expected from that type of person to betray, less suspicions etc. But nah, it's as if he wants it to be found out. It's just so obvious. It doesn't really fit for a guy like him to make a deal with agents. You'd think he despises the law, police etc. given his personality and his chaotic actions but nah. All those scenes with him trying to make peace with Arthur feel out of place when you realise he tried to replace Arthur so that he can be closer to Dutch. I think it would have been better if he was just a ruthless gang member trying to convince Dutch to get the blackwater money, but a loyal one. That way, we'd have a more interesting character that isn't just meant for hatin but mixed feelings like "yeah he's a piece of shit but he helps us out, when he messes up he makes up for it", feels like there's more potential in that and a far more interesting character there. And if he had to be the traitor just give him more of a reason. For example, show that he feels uncomfortable around the gang, that the gang members keep shitting on him, that he's constantly being despised by everyone despite his results, that everyone says they're better than him because they don't do such ruthless things, and make it that he works on his own, don't tie him with those agents because it's really weird for a guy like him to make peace with the law.

    there is still this really compelling argument to me that Micah was never the rat, and all the stuff that made you hate him was a red-herring. ("You gonna believe Agent Milton?") I'm sure people have evidence to show otherwise (and the audience WANTS to hate him for obvious reasons), but for all of the "obviously this guy is bad news" that Rockstar puts on his character, he never actually admits to betrayal which always struck me as odd. We never get that scene where he's talking to the pinkies. Agent Ross tracking down his body at the end only proves that they were looking for him too, not that he was with them. I dunno, maybe thats also me just lamenting that they had this great villain, and could've made him even greater if they had given him more variables like everyone else in the cast got. That one monologue he has at the fire (that you can totally miss) is like one of the few mildly sympathetic moments where you get into his head

  • @STPstudio47

    @@greyblenaut I feel like there's enough room to make him the villain without him being a rat. Obviously he has bad influence on Dutch, he leaves others behind and he makes things difficult for the gang. The only option I see where him being a rat makes sense is that he was caught so he snitched and later tried to put the blame on Arthur and John.

  • @Izaacs_notDead

    @Izaacs_notDead

    I think his betrayal makes sense, atleast from the way I interpret Micah, he is an outlaw raised that way from the get go, a survivor. This is why he's willing to lick different characters boots to try and boost his position in the gang, such as Dutch's and Arthur's, who at this point Micah definitely sees Arthur as more of Dutch's right hand man then Hosea. I saw one theory saying that Micah wanted to thin the gang down from the get go, his ideal situation being more like the close knit gang of his father and brother he grew up with, or the gang he made along the way with cleet and Joe. As for why he ratted the gang out, I think this is because Micah isn't stupid, he saw how fucked the gang was, with several people closing in on them from all sides only made more extreme and apparent by Lenny and Hosea's death. I think Micah saw ratting the gang out as a way to avoid being killed, atleast to hold it off for a bit. Micah is at his core, a survivor, and he'll try to survive for as long as he can until he can't anymore.

    @@Izaacs_notDead Can't agree with your last point. Because in the end Dutch and Micah's plan for the train job worked. It's just that there was a bigger risk (John almost dying), but Micah wouldn't care about that. So there was no reason for him to make a deal with agents because the plan did work and they did manage to escape beaver hollow in time with all the money. And despite this "deal" he keeps killing pinkertons, like when they killed Cornwall, so what's up with that

    Micah definitely ratted about other stuff, but I just can't see him ratting about lakay. Not only because it's already said bill led the pinkertons to lakay cause he was stupid and asked everyone and anyone he could, It just wouldn't be a smart move, and I don't think Micah is truly that stupid, as if he ratted about lakay, he would know they'd bring as much force down onto the gang as they could while the gang was weak. Micah would know this could very easily put him in harms way either by fault of the pinkertons just shooting at any of the gang members they could see, or purposely gunning for him too to get him out of the way.
