The Mike Tyson/Hulk Hogan Confrontation That No One Remembers: Arsenio Hall | FOUND AFTER 30 YEARS

Ойын-сауық

| | We discuss this on EP. 85 of Iron-On Wrestling with Gregory Iron, available for download now on iTunes or anywhere you download podcasts. | |
In a historical moment that no one discusses, Mike Tyson makes a surprise appearance on The Arsenio Hall Show, and after Hulk Hogan makes his scheduled appearance to hype his main event match with Sgt. Slaughter, Tyson and Hogan have a confrontation -- 7 years before Steve Austin & Tyson!
Bruce Prichard and Hulk Hogan have addressed this potential match in interviews in the past, but the timelines don't match up with the time of this nose-to-nose encounter. Was Tyson & Hogan going to actually happen in 1991, or did these plans get derailed because of actions by Hogan and Tyson in the summer of 1991?

@@sirbrad4 Rocky came out in the 70s. The 70s had the Golden era of heavyweight boxing with Ali, Frazier and Foreman along with numerous others. Not to mention prime Roberto Duran, prime Alexis Arguello, Carlos Monzon, Bob Fostet ETC. Aside from the Fab Four (Sugar Ray Leonard, Tommy Hearns, Marvin Hagler and old, fat Roberto Duran) Larry Holmes and Tyson (who's hella overrated) the 80s weren't that remarkable.

@@jasonmoody4219 Rocky started in the 70's but it did not reach peak popularity until Rocky III and IV which are the majority fab favorites till this day. Everyone watched Tyson in the 80's and still watch him today at age 54, and still had record PPV in an exhibition with Roy Jones Jr. Although there were other great fighters in the 70's Ali is why people watched them as he was entertaining, Foreman was quiet and boring back then. I'm not so sure it would have been that easy for Tyson, especially if Hogan managed to get the fight to the ground. Hogan wrestled in Japan for a while, which means he would have had some training in catch wrestling. Japanese wrestling (puroresu) is closer to submission grappling than pro wrestling here in the states. I remember Hogan demonstrating a submission hold on Richard Belzer, and it was scary how easily he choked him out without even trying. Obviously Belzer is not the athlete that Mike Tyson is, but without any formal training in grappling, would Tyson know what to do in a situation like that? The early MMA days showed that a lot of boxers and kickboxers didn't know what to do when caught in submission holds. I don't know if Tyson would have been any different.
