Lyrics
Good morning America What is on your mind? We were so close to something That we all could all get behind We were almost shaking hands Making progress making plans And we could’ve made a difference But the stars were not aligned
And even in our sleep A pain that we cannot forget Falls drop by drop upon the heart until In our own despair And against our will Comes wisdom through
The awful grace of God
Georgie's life ended there But I ask who really cares? Let the word go forth From this time and from this place Do we hold these truths To be self evident? Will we ever get around it? Are ever going to face?
That even in our sleep...
Georgie please stay They took your breath away It’s not what we were hoping for And it’s not what we need I still have a dream Rooted in the American dream One day this nation will rise up And it will live up to its creed
They can shake down the mountains The hills can be removed But love and faith won’t be replaced They can shake down the mountains The hills can be removed But love and faith won’t be replaced

    I'm so sad that they took down the music video for this song. It's one of the most delightfully embarrassing and tone-deaf things I've ever seen, and I think it should be preserved even if the Bosstones are embarrassed by it. If anyone comes across the video online (I can't find it anywhere) please link me to it. I'd like to make a video talking about it but it seems to have been scrubbed from history entirely.

    @@ReverendV92 all I can say is I'm eternally grateful somebody thought the best way to honour the memory of a black man murdered by the state was to have a white guy in a suit skanking through the streets of Boston. Coupled with the song itself, which is already way too jovial and upbeat for the subject matter, it added up to my favourite 'so bad it's good' moment of 2021. It's the only song or video by the Bosstones I've ever seen, and I plan to keep in that way in order to preserve their legacy.

    @@henryb307 Easiest way I can describe it is pre-hiatus and post-hiatus music. All the albums since they came back have been pretty political, whereas the ones before had tinges of it, without it being overbearing. Bosstones are one of my favourite bands, but I just won't listen to their new stuff if I can have the old stuff. I go to music to get away from the depressing real world crap, not be reminded of it.

    John Doe well fake profile, just because you’ve done something for a long time doesn’t mean that you can’t be tone deaf, in fact many times the exact opposite is the case, and just because you’re black doesn’t automatically mean that the you can do no wrong (see Candace Owens), clearly this awful song proves that.

  • @kevinconnor6035

    @kevinconnor6035

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@ToxicToastRecords I can explain: it's because people like Justin are egomaniacal losers. They need to redirect attention on themselves, and an easy way to do that is to drudge up a well-intentioned song by a mixed race band that hasn't been famous in 20 years and preach to everyone about how terrible this forgotten band is for trying to send out a nice message (even if, yes, the message is a bit dated). The "social justice" angle with these people is just a convenient cover. They want to beat down on things and feel important, but they think as long as they wrap themselves in the veneer of social justice, they're bulletproof. It's transparent. This song is not really for this era, but then, neither are the Bosstones. Either way, it has a positive enough message, and it's certainly not doing any harm. At worst, it's a net neutral. And the irony is that nobody would even know about this song if these dopes weren't broadcasting it to everyone in an effort to show how much better they are than this song. So whatever harm these people think this song is doing, they're amplifying it by a factor of ten, because they refuse to pass up a chance to advertise their supposed virtue. So they want everyone to know how bad this song is...even though most people wouldn't even know it existed in the first place without these yahoos trying to tear it apart. People like Justin want to attack to show off how "evolved" they are, because that's a hell of a lot easier than doing the difficult work it takes to actually make change happen. Why run for city council when you can just rip on a ska band from the 90s?

    @@stephenwarner237 I feel that taking this as *purely* about George Floyd is a a misreading, and the title explicitly linking it to Rod Stewart's song is the evidence of that. This isn't just about the murder of a black man, or a gay man. It's about America's failure, in so many ways, to live up to its own purported ideals, to be the land of liberty and justice for *all*. Was this song inspired by George Floyd? Yes, unquestionably. But it's also inspired by the 45 years of history between Rod Stewart's song and now, where we've seen god knows how many murders rooted in bigotry and intolerance, and so many protest songs saying we need to be better - but it's always one step forward, one same-sized step back.

    @@stephenwarner237 It's not offensive and that is an intentional misrepresentation of the song. But I understand it's important to you to feel important, so have a cookie and shut up about it.

    Yup. Another band who feels anointed to tell the rest of us how we should feel about current events. Culture is already saturated with this stuff, and I think people are tired of it. Still like their old shit. Probably will just skip this album.

    There are five people of color on this track, and they're playing a style of music born in Jamaica. Big ol' swing and a miss. Go back to Reddit.
