Rave time: Okay, I'm a metalhead. 90% of what I listen to is several orders of magnitude more intense than this album. But I've recently started getting into more electronic music. What began with Celldweller has brought me here and I have to say...I don't actually know how to say it so that proper justice is done. This is one of the best albums I've heard this year, perhaps in the last five years. It's amazingly done, extraordinarily crafted, and I daresay a perfect example of this genre that I didn't even know existed two months ago. The vocals couldn't be a better match for the instrumental tracks, and oh mylanta, that saxophone. I hope the horn parts are real, cuz those melodies melt my soul into a puddle of bliss. I needed this album in my life. Thanks for reading, youtubers. Just had to say something.

@@ecadbxI was thinking of the Glenn Frey song "You belong to the City" too when I heard this. The sax certainly seems inspired by this. However I do like that song a bit more than "ROD". But then again, I do generally prefer real 80s music over imitations of it. There's more musical depth to the 'real deal' and better lyrics as well.

I am mostly a metalhead, but I am not ashamed to say that this album is indescribably beautiful and I love it.

They had plenty of synth music in the 80s, most of it just didn't sound like this. You should look up the work of Vangelis and Jan Hammer, their stuff sounds like modern synthwave.

Gives me goosebumps when that sax kicks in. Hot damn.

I'm getting in the habit of turning off my adblocker so that aspiring artists like The Midnight, Michael Oakley, Freeweights, Dana Jean Phoenix and others will never have to quit music. I´m currently listening to it and crying. That´s how beautiful it is. Transcendent song.

Anazing album. The first track - Shadows - still gives me chills from time to time. Amazing melody, beats and I really like lyrics too.

You should also checkout Crozet...the Running Time album. A bit different but very good.

8:52 is a tribute to Phil Collins "In the Air Tonight", for sure. As the guys in the comments below, I was a stubborn metalhead for many years (especially during the High School), but then that "life phase" is ended up. I mean, it's natural when you're young, adolescent, identify yourself in a pack, music or ideal. When you start to became adult the point of view on everything starts opening. One of the first thing is music and what is correlated. I still like metal music, but this is really good too. Cheers to everyone!

light years is just an amazingly beautiful track

Shadows is a masterpiece, pressing sounds, incredible atmosphere, perfect mixing, the sax part from minute 5.01 is memorable! Awesome guys!

The 3rd song collateral is by far the best

The "Nocturnal" song is so perfect. When the song starts after he says "Nocturnal", just takes me breath away..

The whole album is mindblowing. River of darkness and crystalline are beyond words.

5 years later, probably the best "The Midnight" has done albumwise.

His voice is amazing and nikkis too and the dreamy sax to die for. I got chills many times throughout the album. Incredible!!

Man oh man... the little triplet drops on the upbeats of the chorus of the first song, keep giving me goosebumps over and over and over again. Ive never found a song, or an artist this moving. Thank you The Midnight, where ever you are.
