My parents bought one of these back in 2007. As someone who has actually had experience with one of these cars, I'm going to say that this thing is nothing like a minivan. It's fast, roomy, comfortable, good looking, high quality, unique, and fun. My brother and I were still in elementary school back then and we still argued about the back (even though it's roomy the middle row is much better.) However, 10 years later, my parents still have the car and I'm 6'1" and I still fit in the back row. This is an amazing car, the experience of it cannot compare to some garbage minivan.

Doug, I have a 2008 R350 and love it. 150K miles on it. No problems. Liked your review of the R63 but you left out the most important fun fact. Between the front cup holders is a factory oringinal beer bottle opener ! It just pulls out when you need it. Just keeping you honest ! Love your reviews !

I love just how rare this car is. It truly makes a Chiron look like a Camry in terms of production numbers! I've never seen one in real life and I live in New Jersey in between two major metropolitan cities which shows just how rare it is. The fact that you would be the only person in the entire state to have one is also just incredible!

I have a standard cls 55 kompressor AMG ....recently learned the engine / drivetrain & residuals were designed for at least 750 hp....unbreakable is an understatement....Germany rules I am afraid ...to quote Carroll Shelby ( GT40 LeMans fame )...."Thank god there isn`t a 48 hour race ...only Porsche would finish "....true today ...and I have had both ...AMG is still a marvel of engineering. :)

Coolest feature: the cupholder divider in the center console is removable and is a bottle opener. We have an 2008 R320 Diesel with 175,000km; it has been and still is great.

There's something about the R-class that has always intrigued me, definitely the best looking minivan out there but the R63 is on another level no doubt. Love the rarity factor you usually get with older AMGs but this one is relatively modern.

My parents had a Honda Odyssey and being in the back for a road trip was a TREAT. With three siblings one of us got the whole entire back row and we'd rotate who got it. Loved it

I do auto transport here in the Midwest based out of missouri. Out of the 10,000 cars I’ve hauled over the past decade I was lucky enough to haul one of these back around 2011-2012 ish. It was white on beige and it was awesome!

Bobby Chill problem with R is actually not the V8 head bolt issue but rather the R was made in US and lots of front end suspension issues, aromatics, in addition to jerky transmission (MB dealer couldn’t figure out fix). Check the forums and you will see unfortunately R class not reliable. We loved our R500 but had to get rid of it when CPO ran out and it was 6 years old.

Loved tht u showed a bit of the van driving away… would 💙 even more if u could add a 2nd (outside) camera to kinda get wht the vehicles u test look and sound like when u drive them Doug. Thx 4 all the vids! Also, I strangely remember seeing Aventador (feel like I’m spelling tht incorrectly) all the way back in 2010 while getting off the highway in Costa Mesa, CA

The fact that these are as a rare as they are and the fact that i have seen and worked on 1 is really amazing (As a mechanic)

My boss had this exact same vehicle. I use to joke about the fact that it was over 500hp behind his back.... until he took me for a drive in it. This "man van" is an absolute beast. Being in Canada, it was amazing in the snow!! I never saw another one after he sold it.... ever! Great job Doug 👍

Doug is the kind of guy that don't understand how torque is measured and says " pound feet" instead of " foot pound" .. 125 foot pound of torque is the turning force created by putting a 125 pound weight on a bar ONE FOOT from the centre of the wheel. .

Considering my mom has had an R350 for 5 years that I’ve been driving for almost a year daily, this video is a trip

So to those who (5 years later) are wondering: A grand tourer is a car built for long distances and fast speeds, so basically a "comfort luxury sports car" (kind of). So the AMG minivan is actually a "sports comfort luxury sports car" thingamajig

It sounds like this is the car you'd want to drive every day Doug. Did you ask the owner to give you a call when he decides to sell it out?

I haven't driven one, nor seen one. Therefore I'm jealous Doug! Nice review. I share the excitement about a minivan that's not a minivan. I recently rented a minivan to get us and the in-laws in one car while on vacation, and the wife said "no minivan!".

I own a R320cdi and I just love it. Amazing car. R63 is just a dream but man it looks sweet.

I know it’s not a R63. But i just bought a R500 perfect condition with 60,000 miles for $3,200. And i love it!
