The Meat Lobby: Inside the Abyss of an Industry | ENDEVR Documentary

Ғылым және технология

The Meat Lobby: How the Meat Industry Hides the Truth | Investigative Documentary from 2016
In 2015, the WHO listed one of the additives in processed meats as carcinogenic. That same additive was nearly banned in America in the 1970s - until lobbying from the meat industry discredited the scientists. We reveal how, to impede or halt regulations on certain additives, lobbyists have been working in the shadows for decades. At the heart of this strategy are the scientists who collaborate, who receive generous compensation for studies that promote meat consumption. In conjunction with this, those whose work finds health risks associated with meat are ‘shut down’. From Brittany to Denmark, through California and Wisconsin, director Sandrine Rigaud conducted a year-long investigation on the tactics of the meat industry.

My mom was born in a very poor village and had little to no schooling. Even so she’s always been against eating process food, fried foods, coffee and soda. Ppl would make fun of her for her diet but she stuck to it. To this day she prefers eating at home than at a restaurant unless she approves of it. I thank her because to this day she takes care of me and my family by reminding us constantly be careful of what we intake.

As a worker in the meat processing industry, I can say that it is terrible. The companies nickel and dime you at every turn; you are expected to clock in 10 minutes early and aren't paid for it. You have a 30-minute break and two 15 min shorter breaks; however, you are expected to take your suit off and put it back on in that allotted time, so you don't get your complete breaks. They lose their mind if one person is on lite duties and isn't allowed to do the work of two people despite doctors' orders. You are kept on trainee wages for months after being deemed competent you are promised back pay to the date you were signed off, but it never comes

Sodium Nitrite (E250) - Used for curing(preserving) meat and fish products Sodium Nitrite (NaNO2) is a food additive that gives cured meats, such as ham, bacon, hot dogs, frankfurters, smoked fish and corned beef, their characteristic red colour and flavour, it inhibits the growth of bacterial spores that cause botulism, a deadly food borne illness, and retards development of rancidity and off-odours. It is coded as E250 by the European Union. Health effects are acute methemoglobinemia (haemoglobin loses its ability to carry oxygen). Early symptoms include irritability, lack of energy, headache, dizziness, vomiting, diaorrhea, laboured breathing and a blue-gray or pale purple colouration to areas around the eyes, mouth, lips, hands and feet (blue baby syndrome). In severe untreated cases, brain damage and eventually death can result from suffocation due to lack of oxygen. Pregnant women and infants below 3 months should stay away from nitrites. Individuals with digestive difficulties due to reduced stomach acidity are also at higher risk. Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives has established an ADI of 0-0.06mg/kg bw. U.S. Department of Agriculture has the specifications that sodium nitrite content should not exceed 200ppm in finished products. Use of Sodium nitrite is banned in Norway, Sweden, Canada, Germany.

I am Italian and I went to the US for the first time in 2016 on a New York trip. I remember trying all kinds of meat because, you go to the US and you don't try an hamburger? Or some BBQ ribs? An hot dog with all the sauces? I basically spent 10 days eating at least 1 meat plate a day and I was so happy, it tasted so delicious, it was... Kind of addictive, really. I went to NY and I was just done with my period, yet coming back from those 10 days I was already on another period and had a third one about two weeks after. This had never happened to me before (I usually have a period cycle of 35-to-40 days because of PCOS) so I can only assume it was due to whatever was in the meat, because the regulation of hormones that can be fed to livestock in Italy is stricter than in the US, at least it was at the time. Afterwards, I became very wary of consuming meat during travels so I usually stick to vegetarian options when I can.

Plus they have huges coffers of funds in the big pharma which guarantees them more profits. Keep a population addicted and sick and you'll never go broke. Just gaining more money and power over time. I'm glad that my butcher here in Aotearoa New Zealand offers both options. The nitrite free bacon is costlier because it takes longer to make but, it's very very good. It isn't really very difficult to get used to it being slightly browner and, once it's cooked it looks the same as the other stuff. There's plenty of places offering nitrite and nitrate free ham and sausages as well. The dangers aren't particularly well known here but there's a general preference for unadulterated food wherever possible. Of course, like with most other things it costs more so poorer people gave less choices.

I worked at a meat packing company that packaged meat for all big stores, subway, & Arby’s. The only 100% real meat is roast beef but they do add brine “brine is liquid salt.” All other meat is put in a huge blender with almost 1:1 ratio of meat and powder. The powder was soy for extra protein, a bunch of salt, & flavorings. Once blended it’s in cased in 12’ logs similar to sausage wraps. Cooked, sliced and packaged. Don’t forget almost 50% is powder soy, etc. by all meat I mean majority of sliced meat for sandwiches.

Melvin- There are some that kill whites because their ancestors got along and worked for blacks in exchange for land instead of money. They were born there and have legal deeds to the land they use. Some of the more recent blacks generation are racist. They don't believe whites should own land or farms in Africa. These, that are racist come in during the night and brutally slaughter the whole white families even the children. This has been going on for lots of years. Yes, move to Africa if you think this is ok. We already have enough racism here. About eating white meat that might be all you will have left to eat without farms. Even that would become an rare delicacy. There are very few Black farmers in a land that has rich soil and lots of land. Do you think when Africans children starve to death for lack of food, they will have probably deserved it? After all Africa In recent years Africa has had many plagues of locusts. They are edible with lots of protein after they eat your land to the ground.
