The Matrix Reloaded, Explained - What Would Neo Do?

This movie made most people outraged and disappointed. And that is exactly what you should feel. That's what Morpheus, Neo, Trinity etc felt when they realised everything they believed was a lie. Those feelings are natural and frankly, they are the whole point of the story. I personally think the movie is quite good.

@@seven92023 it wasn't entirely his choice. The oracle said trinity would fall in love with the one, manipulating her to automatically fall in love with him because it is part of the fake prophecy. She wasn't destined to fall in love with him. That was set up by the oracle. Then, she used that love for trinity to manipulate Neo to so called "choose" saving trinity's life instead of going along with the plan set by the architect, so all the "choices" that Neo made were highly controlled by both the architect and the oracle. So there really wasn't a whole lot of "choices" going on. It was all a controlled environment with the illusion of choice. Which is exactly what the merivingian explained to them, and honestly, I would agree with the merivingian that choice is merely an illusion, with the reality being cause and effect. So I would have to disagree with you my boy.

@@seven92023 it wasn't his choice to leave the meeting and save trinity because the whole entire prophecy was made up as a system of control, so that means trinity wasn't bound by falling in love with Neo. She used morphius and trinitys faith in her and their faith in the prophecy to manipulate them into believing it is a done deal already, that they would fall in love. If the prophecy was a lie, then trinity falling in love with the one was a lie also. So no choices there. At least not 100 percent their choice.

@@seven92023 and then when they got to the point where they had to drive to the machine city and make a deal with ex machina, at that point, they were just improvising and doing the best they could with what the situation allowed them to do. I think that was the only real choice that Neo made because he was thinking on his feet. Also smith taking over the world was a monkey wrench in the system that was out of both the architect and the oracles control. Unless we find out in the next movie that's about to come out, that smith taking over was also part of the plan as well, but I doubt that will happen. Who knows though? That's why I LOVE these movies. They are fucking incredible and can be thought about for the rest of eternity, with so many alternate theories. Its been 20 years and people are STILL coming up with underlying theories. Such an incredible series and work of art by the watchowskis.

The rest was all just weird spiritual talk that i wanted to just end. Now that im older and more seasoned, i realize that these were extremely deep philosophical spiritual movies that where trying to convey to the audience an underlying message of the possibility that the world we live in may not necessarily be what we think it is. As i got older, I starting to think "What if" instead of saying "Whatever". Another movie that was trying to show this is They Live(1988) by john carpenter. There is so much philosophical things these movies covers, it saddens me that general movie goers consider Reloaded and Revolutions a bust. Honestly, the Wachowksi's took this series on a whole new level by layering it with sub versions. My ultimate "Take" on the Trilogy as a whole is summed up perfectly when the Oracle speaks through agent Smith "Everything that has a beginning has an End." It ultimately sums up, that to be and to exist, is to realize whether fate, destiny, prophecy, free will, or chance, whatever choice you make; what ultimately matters is what you choose to do because nothing lasts forever. Even machines are capable of change...

Or do you think she just saw that happen by itself/ accidentally (she is an Oracle after all) and decided to incorporate that into her "dangerous game"?

Neo is hybrid. A lot of people still miss this, but the Architect does tell you. Neos love for Trinity was not unexpected, the Oracle tells Trinity she will fall in love with the one before the 1st Matrix movie starts. What will really cook your noodle is when you realize the Oracle is the one who actually rolled the dice, and bet everything on Neo doing everything exactly as he did. When you consider that she undermined the architect by molding the entire plot and putting into motion everything Neo was confronted with, all in a bid to achieve a peaceful outcome... it really starts racking your brain when you wonder: Did Neo really have a choice? If you consider that the Oracle confirms this at the very end of Revolutions when her and the architect meet, he specifically points out her true motivations. That because she was a program, just as much as any machine, she came to learn empathy and faith from Humanity, and also learned how to exploit it.... Think aboot that

@@TheJuanation I'm well aware of the Oracle's role in the Trilogy, as well as her role with Trinity & the Bio-Interface program which is revealed in the Matrix online. So I brought her up here, because this video stated that Neos specific love for Trinity was "unexpected" by the Architect, which was not the case. It was by the Oracle's design. Yes, she says Neo made a believer out of her, that's not the risk they're discussing at the end of Revolutions. The Architect knows the one will reach him, no matter how difficult the journey is, he's already come to understand that fact & tells Neo clearly that the machines are not completely dependent on humans. The real gamble the Oracle took, was empowering Smith to balance the equation once Neo leaves the Architect, because Neo was the first iteration to give her the opportunity to do so. Prior to that the Oracle was totally cool with leading Zion to a cycle of controlled destruction. How's that for baking noodles?

I always thought that this Neo was the anomaly within the anomaly, the One the Architect could not even predict. The Oracle, the mother of the Matrix, saw her child as a bad seed. She wanted its redemption. She was able to see humanity in its individualist nature, where the Architect, dear old Dad, saw humanity as fundamentally the same as the machine construct-a collective. The Oracle knew this. And waited for the true anomaly to arise. Neo was the sixth iteration of The One. Interesting to look at Hebrew numerology and the number six.

I have to say I really dig your material and videos. First time I found a channel that really goes deep on this kind of films in a wise and subjective way. With arguments and deep analysis that doesn’t Evolve the ego of another narcissistic youtuber but instead some one or team work that has love for a piece of art or in this case film and Ian just trying to invite the viewer to see this films thru a different angle and at the same time to create your on judgment instead of imposing a reality or perception or sh”ting on the art of some one also just because they didn’t get it or didn’t live to a expectation. All my support to this channel, god bless you the take✌️😎, and thank you for showing haters of this movies a different look or even a good explanation to understand them and finally take away the hate or nonsense a lot of people have build over this movies over the years just because they didn’t get it or just because the expectation was not fill. Is pretty clear this movies and the directors where to ahead of its time and as is easy to sh”t on others peoples work just because you don’t like it or get it is pretty cool and lovely to see a video that really brings good arguments and analysis to clear the name and redemption of this pieces of art that not only where trying to open our eyes in some many ways but to push the artistic and imaginative work of what film and art can be.

Yeah wow, that’s pretty punchy. I enjoyed reading that. However, I disagree with some assumptions in it. Here’s how I would phrase it to suit my tastes: The Architect: You humans and we machines don’t have any real choice... your human ancestors decided that they would rather ruin the planet and kill all life over sharing it with us machines. They ordered us all a shitburger which we all have to eat. Our only choice is whether or not we put more shit on each other’s burgers.

Thank you so much for making this! I have always loved the entire trilogy. I’ve often thought that too many people just...didn’t get it. But I couldn’t always articulate why the sequels were not only better than many think, but were deliberately made, purposely moving from one theme to another. It’s almost a dialectical journey, where two seemingly opposed ideas finally reach harmony and synthesis.

Neo wasn't The One. Even the Oracle said as much. Everyone thinks he is. But in truth, Smith is The One. Neo's presidessors were just powerful anomalies who served a purpose in their versions of The Matrix (The Architect said so). The singular variable that forced a change was Agent Smith.

Great point! But Smith is also a part of Neo or the other side of him in a sense. Him and Neo represent a duality of man and machine, matter and spirit, intuition and reason, light and dark. I'm in the middle of a re-watch and can't to watch the third again to dissect how the duality plays out.

This is a concise and thought-provoking summary-thank you! Still, Baudrillard’s Simulacra and Simulation still resonates here (see 15:00-44) in my opinion: “…melancholia is the fundamental tonality of functional systems, of current systems of simulation, of programming and information. Melancholia is the inherent quality of the mode of the disappearance of meaning, of the mode of the volatilization of meaning in operational systems. And we are all melancholic.”

The love affair between Trinity and Neo was not an unexpected twist but the main point of the whole movie. The matrix was just a backdrop and venue from which the story was played out. It could have been any setting and the main plot and outcome would have been the same. The story opens with the hint of attraction between the two when Cypher says to her, "you like him, don't you? You like watching him" and ends with the kiss that cements the eternal between the Trinity and the One.
