    It depends on the task/situation. Where I work (In IT development - so almost no support calls) we can hardly speak for an hour or more easily. Next thing there can be a lot of conversation, something breaks, making a brew, we have a visitor, someone farts etc. we're kinda nerds so we don't really do small talk, give it 10 minutes and things are all quiet again. So, not unrealistic! 👍

    In some ways I always felt Matrix 1 was very fitting to be a movie released around the turn of the millenium. I can't pinpoint why, I just felt it was a very particular time with the rise of the internet and a lot of the media of the time reflects that

  • @mellowandjello
    @mellowandjello9 жыл бұрын

    I like this scene from the matrix. The layout and execution of it was good, but what I like best about it is it shows that even Neo could fail a simple task like that and still come out on top. It's okay to fail, you just have to get back up and try again. It was definitely a lot more realistic than if Neo just completely went along with it and went up to the roof with no fear or hesitation, it shows what anyone might've done

  • @yarpen26

    @yarpen26

    9 жыл бұрын

    mellowandjello well, that's my main problem with the Matrix movies, that all we see throughout most of them is those invincible, unstoppable, shade-wearing characters who even if killed can somehow be brought back no matter what. that's NOT interesting to watch because we have no way of identyfying with somebody who's that perfect. if you want to make a from zero to hero story, fine but make the transition last longer than just half of your movie. that's partly why the other two parts sucked so hard

  • @mellowandjello

    +yarpen26 the matrix part one is kind of a Jesus retelling IMO. part 2'and 3 are kind of like narrative filler, but at the same time, they do explain neo's situation which happens to be similar to ours.

    yarpen26 Only Neo is practically invincible in The Matrix: Reloaded, Morpheus and Trinity get their asses kicked, Trinity even nearly dies, then in The Matrix: Revolutions practically everyone is having a shit time for the entire movie. Sure they're still super skilled and talented, but to say they don't struggle is incorrect

    Editors pay attention, that is how you cut a scene. The cut from the phone ringing to it popping open is masterful. The way the phone begins to move out of shot before it cuts was intentional, this is what you call shooting with the Edit in mind. Genius

I would even kill for a phone like Neo's

    Beautiful detail about this movie is that Neo fails to do what Morpheus wanted him to. As many of us would have done, Neo stopped at a situation where he could have easily died. He didn't risk his life for such a vague purpose and his fear took over him from doing something radical, just as we might have done when we went on a scary ride, or were told to do something drastic. Sometimes we will be too afraid to do it. That's what I like about this scene

    edited out a prophetic part of the line, he says, "I can't do this. I'm going to die." Which is important considering what the oracle tells him, that "you're waiting for something. You are not the one." He's afraid of dying, while he's grasping onto the world he knows, the matrix, the side of the building in this scene. He's not ready to die. I always thought that that was one of the more important lines of the film, the: under his breath, talking to himself in a whisper one. When he says (I think) "I can't do this. I'm going to die." Because it comes true. He doesn't yet have clear knowledge on what to fight (and die) for, he hasn't been given those tools by the mentor archetype Morpheus. Then once he knows what he's fighting for, he transcends his own death.

Also what are the chances the phone gets delivered moments before agents arrive? Slim to none if left up to FedEx to deliver it on their own schedule. But more plausible if they found out the agents were coming for him and sent Mouse in to deliver him the phone before the agents got him

    It's weird how at the time this was such a good movie, still is, but you can sense this cheeseyness about it. Probably because of the advancement of tech and knowing that Keanu reeves is more interesting off camera. This is actually kind of sad because the movie is a metaphor for how the directors feel about life. Like an awakening. I never understood the metaphor until recently.
