We just wanted that day! Yes the journey would have been better than the destination had we have won. Likely we would have been losing all games against the greedy six and conceding lots of goals meaning we would be looking to avoid relegation against the likes of Bournemouth and Fulham and Palace and as yesterday proved Leeds are shit in London. I look forward to the rivalry of Sheff Utd, Sheffield Wed, Boro, Hull, Derby, Wall........making the match day experience much better and no VAR! Putting some meaning into all of this and what you lads have done over the season we would like to thank you for something that will have gone unnoticed. Just before Christmas our dad's both took ill on the same day, 15th December ending up in two hospitals 30 miles apart. Every day from then until 1st of March was spent up and down motorways taking our mums to visit our dads. It's emotionally, physically and financially draining. Both dads passed away within a few weeks of each other and we are still picking up the pieces for our families and will be doing for some time. The glimmer of hope for us has been the season Leeds has had, despite it ending in failure. Better than that has been Square Ball. We have climbed into bed of an evening absolutely shattered since our dads took ill and listening to you guys has been our calming anchor. You have medicined our minds when life for us has been chaotic and you have genuinely provided joy during the darkest days of our lives. THANK YOU! We wish good fortune but most of all good health to all of you and yours and we look forward to your very special (at least to us) analysis, diagnosis, critiques and general bullshit next season. Take care everyone ❤️

Well written @jamestaylor. I empathize a lot as my dad has been ill too, my family suffering too, and football, football podcasts included, has been the calming anchor. Thanks you legends for biting the bullet and facing the disappointment head on, and talking about it so soon after the game. It’s often brilliant being a Leeds fan; Elland Road, its history, and the crazy folk who turn up to cheer on the team make it so, but there’s still some right crappy moments, this being one. However, such is life and we go again Leeds! MOT 😊

The atmosphere at Wembley is fine so long as your team only sing one song. The fans who sit en masse together at Elland Road every week and who start the chants and songs are dispersed at Wembley. The Championship gave Archie games that the Prem never would and I can only hope that Mateo etc get a chance next season. x

I have to say, Wembley is dreadful. Only the second time I've been there, but the atmosphere was bouncing on the way to the ground and in the concourse - as soon as you get into the seats the atmosphere is sucked out by the dreadful americanisation of the PA - Just STFU and let the fans provide the atmosphere, it's not a f**king disco!

I agree with the assessment of Farke overall . There are a lot of things I don’t like including the predictability of his selections and timing of his substitutions. Too many times this season he failed to use the squad fully and knit more of the fringe players like Cresswell and Gelhard into the team when the opportunities were there. However, he has got some great results out of an imbalanced squad and the players like Rutter, James and even Firpo have improved under him. In reality who can Leeds attract now who could do a better job of it than Farke ? I think we have to give him one more season and trust that he can get us up in an automatic promotion spot next time around hopefully with a couple of better attacking midfield players added over the summer.

100% agree. I'm sure it won't pan out like this, but what I hope happens is: - Sell Summerville and Gnonto for 50m+ whilst their stock is high. They are good but are they really that good - Try and keep all the other 1st teamers - Keep Rodon ideally but if not replace him - Put Rutter on one wing and James on the other - Find some bargains (similar to the Ampadu profile) in key areas - Priority is a No 10, but buy sensibly in other key areas I do think this season we were using Ruter as a 10 when he's not really one, and relied too much on flair from him and Summerville which didn't always work. With a proper summer window, Farke can build his own team properly and we'll see if he is indeed the man. If that all happens, we should have a stronger team in a league that is most likely weaker and we really should go up

Was at wembley next to the Southampton fans up in the gods. The atmosphere was better pre kick off, was rawcus, beer flying everywhere, a luke ayling look a like got the songs going, a steward told someone to get off the shoulders and got covered in beer and abuse. Lol 😂 the stadium lost a lot of the sound, and as you say the crowd had pockets of energy. The nerves of us fans intensified after their goal. Southampton only have one song and its irritating to listen to. Southampton fans giving it the big en and winding us up. Great day out, terrible performance. Fine margins thought the dan James shot that hit the bar went in. So close. Farkes biggest mistake was not bringing the subs on sooner. Joseph looked great and looked dangerous for the kast ten mins and dan james should've been on from kick off. So much time wasting from them, stopped us attacking. This one didnt hurt as much as derby, but still feels disappointing today. Leeds fans were great, pre match was awesome. Need a lot of surgery on the team for next season.

Thanks for all your efforts this season, lads. You provided Champions League quality podding in the Championship. On the pitch it was a slow death. We sustained fatal injuries at QPR on the 26th of April and it took a full month for the heart monitor to finally flatline. We played ok yesterday, gave it everything, and we would have beaten Norwich again, or West Brom, with that performance, but Southamoton are a lot better than them and we couldn't do enough. We have glaring weaknesses. Piroe is no good, Rutter and Gnonto are kids, Gruev and Kamara offer zero threat, so if you're the opposition you end up pointing at Summerville and saying 'stop him and we're halfway home', and they do. This team is nearly there (check the league table). If we can keep most of the squad and address the weaknesses with a few signings, I'd be confident that we'll make it next season.

I am not confident that we will finish above a number of rapidly improving teams such as Hull, Coventry and one of the London sides. Norwich will be better under a new boss while Carlos will remain a threat. Struijk will be back, which is a very big plus and Ampadu can return to midfield. Joseph and Cresswell should be promoted and Geldhardt should be tried on the left (cutter inners like Summerville and Gnonto can't cut it against top full backs - but I suppose they won't be here anyway). There is a big question mark against the coach who may not be with us at Xmas if we don't kick off with a bang. Piroe can go for me, but I would keep Rutter. Kamara can go too. Gruev - will be better for playing with Ampadu in midfield.

We got 90 points but his lack of use of the squad is truly bizarre at times. I think he is probably the best manager we can get for where we are unless we go completely left field, but he deserves an other year hopefully with drama at the start of the season. I can see the faults with his system but all managers have blind spots at this level.

I’m worried that Farke is not learning from his mistakes. Far too much time wasted passing sideways and backwards. Most of the time it doesn’t result in chances so it doesn’t work. I’m also worried he can’t change games tactically during a game. Seems like a FM pressing space bar or whiz. Compare Piroe to Armstrong. Armstrong constantly ran in behind and when he got in he shot. Piroe didn’t run in behind (and neither did any other leeds player) and every time we got in (bar James) we decided to pass. It’s goals that win matches!! They only come from shots! I blame Farke and the tactics. We had a team that should have won that match and Farke wasted so much time passing it around in pointless areas of the pitch. No point ‘having control’ at 0-1

I think most are unsurprised, key players have decided they don't need to play for Leeds since the international break, would be surprised if they were tapped up during that time and deals will be swift, contracts already drawn up, been half out the door come what may. On a positive note, had Leeds been auto promoted, would they then also be looking for a new manager as we see Ipswich and Leicester will be rudderless and scrambling to find someone who can work miracles to stay up. Leeds should be fine this time, new players, and quick out the blocks with a plan

Way too easy to single out Piroe, where were the crosses and through balls for him ? The service (non) he received today was terrible. As usual completely overplaying in the final 3rd outside the penalty area trying to create the perfect goal.......

@@mjw123I agree with that & James offered us directness & something different , but Joel went missing after the goal, in the system we play we need a pressing forward or at least a foreward who does not drop as deep as he does, the lack of crosses with both Summerville & Gnonto wanting to cut in did not help him, we look a better side with Bamford or Joesph up front to create space for the inverted wingers, so they can cut in & create or score, in our unbeaten run Bamford was the main CF, we should not be still relying on him still. We also desperately need our CM’s to score goals & create chances. We achieved 90 points, I had a good day out bar the result, he played much better against Norwich.

@@tonyhirst3628 Farke is better than any other coach, since Bielsa, but he seems to be very predictable, the lack of squad rotation is truly bizarre, I get starting the team that beat Norwich, but he does not seem to do much in game management other than put on more attacking players very late in the Game. Maybe we were spoiled by Bielsa’s ability to try to change things. I like Farke but he obviously has flaws but 90 points over the season is a good haul, but he does have weaknesses.

Now the dust as settled it’s time to review the season My opinion as differed little to what I posted when the season started and what I thought would happen Well it started terribly with Radrizani managing to lose about 250 million selling the club to fellow directors the 49ers picking up the club for £190 million instead of £450 .million if I remember right ? Then we have the 49ers trying to distance themselves from the previous owners which I believe was to create some time and space with the fans So they wouldn’t be too demanding in the first season if we didn’t go up This seemed to work as our fan base suddenly developed collective amnesia to their previous role at the club . With that in mind it also gave them little time and the space to find some good recruits to plug the gaps left by the last regime regarding the managers post and players leaving This saved them from spending big on recruitment None of this was sorted out into well in to the season started This for me showed they didn’t really have much intent on the footballing side of the business it was probably to help more on the business side . Otherwise if they had shown real intent on promotion The manager and the players should have been in place as soon as they got the keys to sign That didn’t didn’t happen . With the regards to their recruitment there was no one that made you think promotion was a key They were all underwhelming premier league flops or players no one had heard of like Greuv The manager was the best of a medium bunch of managers Who had been promoted before with Norwich but failed miserably in the premier league So we had no pre season of any worth and were trying to catch up as the season progressed which made it very difficult to mount a serious attempt on winning promotion Still the fans were in full support of the 49ers due to the Amnesia effect of their part in the last regimes down fall Everyone at the club seemed to think we only had to turn up to win promotion and having a month off wouldn’t hinder our promotion even though it took us 16 years before to get promoted which showed how sometimes we were talking fine margins for success ;which proved again this year . Leeds were patchy for a while with mixed results We started to pick things up around November When we beat Leicester away .That’s when I started to think Farke maybe the one with an impressive team display at the league leaders who were unbeaten at that point Coming into the new year Leeds were confident and playing like a well oiled machine They seemed unbeatable .I started to believe in Farke and the team again That was no mean feet over turning that 17 point lead Come the international break and everything fell apart .for some reason This is when we saw the worst of Farke and the team .Watching Farke’s Leeds team was like watching the same game every week Then we found out Farke had no answers to our situation Throughout the season Farke was banking that the best attack in the league would be good enough to steamroller teams and when we were on it it made it easier to cover for the midfield and defence When we were in trouble he just put on more attackers Sometimes this worked like Norwich away There was also a couple of Dan James inspired victories in among that lot but generally his subs had no effect what so ever .When he did bring on subs it was around the 80th minute even though it was clear as day we needed to make subs at half time .When the strikers started to lose form it was then we realised how bad the rest of the team was A mediocre midfield lacking any creativity I saw a stat the other week regarding our supposed interest in Hamer from Sheff Utd Hamer had 100 shots for Sheff u this season in a struggling team which is more than our entire midfield for the last 5 years apparently .Our defence is even worse and don’t get me started on the keeper Leeds have played Southampton 3 times I thought we could beat them They two times previous they played us at bad times first time when we were building our team early doors and the last game of the season when there was little to play for The game on Sunday I thought we would teach them What it did teach us was that Russell Martin is a far better manager the Daniel Farke He’s played Leeds 3 times this year and he’s changed his tactics three times and tweaked his team when he’s needed to too beat us What did Farke do or change Nothing . He played the same way in all games and lost all 3 games .That shows to me Farke is a tactically inept manager . What happens now ? I’m sure our owners are quite happy with the season in terms of Money made ;which is their primary concern The play off finals been finished a day and already some of our fan base are saying we’ll walk the league next year There’s absolutely nothing to support that assumption at all Don’t people learn from anything ? We don’t even know which players will still be at our club next season If there 49ers are truly on board with getting this club promoted They need to build on this team There’s no excuses this year You'll be judged by what you do . Unfortunately I don’t believe they’ll do much It will probably be a replica of this season if we don’t lose to many players and we’ll be talking fine margins again . I think the league will be harder next year than this one Luton have showed a great spirit and will be difficult to beat Burnley were improving all the time as the season progressed and will be stronger next year Not sure what the Blunts will do though

Saw this coming as predicted Southampton would win the play offs a good while ago and we cannot argue as they have now won all 3 games against us but what was poor was we just created nothing with just 2 notable efforts at goal from Dan James both late on in the game with shots from outside the box, we lost promotion with the pathetic last 6 games of the season losing 4 of those as we went all season not losing at home then somehow losing our last 2 home league games, what timing !

Agree on the atmosphere being strange, I think the pumping out music constantly before the match meant the crowd couldn't warm up. I think we have the fastest forwards in the league and don't utilise them, we play so slow in front of teams it gets frustrating. One thing I want to ask, apart from James it felt like rodon was the only one trying to make something happen, wondered what other people thought?

Rodon was unusually prominent in an attacking sense, and yes I guve him credit for that, but I'd say it was as much tactical as down to him trying to make things happen. He was being allowed space that the forward players were being denied.
