Hope this helps with the madness of this track. From Discogs notes. On a trip in Jerusalem, Rodriguez-Lopez purchased an archaic ouija-type talking board at a curio shop as a gift for Bixler-Zavala. They would return to their tour bus after shows to play with it during their 2006 tour with the Red Hot Chili Peppers, as it quickly became the band's post-show ritual. Dubbed "The Soothsayer", the board revealed stories, gave names and made demands, as the band was contacted by three different people who appeared in the form of one, who was then referred to as "Goliath". The more the band interacted with "The Soothsayer", otherworldly coincidences began plaguing the band's experience writing and recording The Bedlam in Goliath: Blake Fleming, their drummer at the time, quit mid-tour and left the band with financial troubles; Bixler-Zavala wound up needing surgery performed on his foot due to the shoes he had been wearing, forcing him to relearn how to walk post-surgery; audio tracks sporadically disappeared from the studio's harddrives; Rodriguez-Lopez's home studio flooded and was subject to multiple power outages; and the album's original engineer went through a nervous breakdown, leaving behind all previous work with no notes as to where anything was. The engineer who quit stated to Rodriguez-Lopez: "I'm not going to help you make this record. You're trying to do something very bad with this record, you're trying to make me crazy and you're trying to make people crazy." Rodriguez-Lopez was on the brink of starting the recording from scratch, but eventually kept on after recruiting Robert Carranza as a replacement engineer, along with assistance from Lars Stalfors and Isaiah Abolin. Midway through the recording sessions, Rodriguez-Lopez broke "The Soothsayer" in half and buried it in an undisclosed location as an attempt to undo the curse and halt the unforeseen tragedies. Rodriguez-Lopez swore never to give away the location of the burial, and also asked the band not to speak of it again during the remainder of the album's production.

We were so happy to see you did this video… But as soon as I saw you watching their actual video, I knew it would be too much of a distraction. At the same time it was great that you enjoyed it so much. That song is a juggernaut. Keep going… There are so many great songs still to hear… They are not all alike either. Keep going…

Thomas Pridgen as a drummer was chaos and fit well with Bedlam. It is funny though a lot of Volta heads hold him at the bottom. I think Deantoni Parks is my personal favorite of theirs. Watch some of the live stuff with him, dude is straight possessed.

Mars Volta took me a bit to get into but once I did they quickly moved to the front of the pack alongside Tool and Opeth for me. Try Day of Baphomets for one of my favorite bass intros. Also their new album is fantastic, it's much more melodic with lots of layers without the chaos.

@D Music Life The mic toss back and forth between his hands is hilarious also Omar playing the keyboard stand 🤣🤣🤣 But in all fairness to you guys (which is an inside joke that all TMV fans know) these songs are meant to be listened to in album sequence, yes it is work getting into the music but once you do it's totally worth it! the only radio worthy single day ever produced was "the widow"most fans don't even give the song recognition because it's just basic 😁

They e been through multiple drummers. The guy playing drums on this track is Thomas Pridgen. He’s played on two albums, The Bedlam in Goliath and Octahedron. Maybe try Teflon next? Pridgen is on that and it’s groovy af. Not nearly as chaotic.

“Will not listen to again.” Ok, (1.) “The Widow,” is their most radio friendly song and you really should have gotten to that track within the first two songs you listen to. Probably the 2nd song as the 1st song is undoubtedly a song to show you how crazy the band is 🤷🏻‍♀️ (2.) Check out the band the singer & guitarist were in prior to The Mars Volta, At The Drive-In and their song “One Arm Scissor.” Those are the introduction tracks to these guys.

Ok, so this was the first time the record label gave Omar (the guitarist and composer) their own money to film a video. obviously no one is actually playing instruments here, this is the album version. Everything in this video was planned by Omar (for better or worse). The song and the album are insane! "Never heard a man speak like this man before, all the days of my life ever since I been born, never heard a man speak like this man before" - Jim Jones/Jonestown Massacre.

It was a brilliant band, last two albums not so good but they gave three fantastic albums. Actually guitarist Omar and vocalist Cedric , both of puerto ricane origin, they come from a band called At the Drive In , worth checking. And the bassist , Juan Ardente is from the legendary band called Racer X. Judas Priest drummer Scott Harris is from that band as well as the guitarist of Mf Big Paul Gilbert.

Goliath was the evil spirit that was talking to the band through an evil Jewish artifact. The spirit was asking g them to do things in return for inspiration the band had lost for a brief period of time. The story of this entire album is crazy dude, and a lot of people attribute it to the bands break up in 2012.
