A lot to unpack here. 😂 Omar Rodríguez López is the guitarist, composer and producer. He recorded each instrument separately. He then mixed them for the album. So the band didn’t know what the complete songs sounded like. Flea, bassist for Red Hot Chili Peppers played trumpet on France’s the Mute and played bass on some of the tracks on their first album. John Frusciante, guitarist for the Chili Peppers also played solos for different songs for the recording. The Mars Volta is one half of the punk band At the DriveIn (From El Paso, TX). You need to react to them also. At the Drive-In had been together most of the 90’s and were about to hit mainstream when Omar and Cedric Bixler-Zavala (lead singer) decided they were moving on. The other half of the band formed the band Sparta (great band). Rick Rubin produced the Mars Volta first album. The album is freakin’ amazing but Omar hated the whole process of having a producer. He felt stifled and decided to not do that again. Cedric is Mexican-American and Omar is Puerto Rican. Although Cedric sang in Spanish a lot they were able to avoid the Spanish Rock label. I’m Mexican American and it seemed cool to me how the audiences at the concerts did not care that they sang in Spanish. Their concerts were an experience. The solos were usually really long because they would be practicing songs for their next album. Jon Theodore is a beast of a drummer. He and Zack de la Rocha put out an ep under the name “One Day as Lion”. Another must reaction. This is a concept album so that is why it kind of feels like a movie. It was based on a journal that was found by one of the band members. Not being impressed by Cedric’s vocal seems odd to me. Please react to their first album Deloused in the Comatorium. Thanks for the reaction.

All the "Cassandra Gemini" tracks are just one 32 min song, they had to cut it into seperate parts in the CD version but they were forced to do it, it wasn't the initial intend. I love The Mars Volta and I enjoyed your reaction a lot! But contrary to many TMV fans, I'm not a big fan of this album (it's really good tho), I prefer their next albums (especially the next two), looking forward for your to react to them!! Peace

They also had to cut the first song, the title track 'Frances the Mute' Which can be found on 'The Widow' single, which makes the full album 90 minutes +

Dude if you liked this, there's a "secret" track with the same name as this album, I think you're gonna love it, the acoustic guitars in there are wild and the outro is this really long explosive riff, it's insane. Also one of the most grating noise intros.

Frances, Vismund, L'Via, Miranda, Cassandra et al are characters in a murder mystery, supposedly, where Frances witnessed the murder of her mother by a priest, and the church covered it up.

Wild concept album, this comment may contain some edits as your ideo plays on lol. Super loose interpretation here: It's a journal that one of the sound engineers found in a car when he was a to truck driver. The author of the journal was adopted and so was the tow truck driver. So they turned it into a story where cygmund us the surviving child of an abortion that happened after his mom was raped by a priest (first track). He becomes a prostitute (second track) and eventually speaks to his aunt (track 3) to find out what happened to his mom. Then he speaks to his grandma (track 4) for more info and cassandra gemini (the rest of the tracks) is just him going apeshit on the people that abused him and his family. Drummer is Jon Theodore who is currently with Queens of the stone age. Here Mars Volta's first album if want to hear him go off 18:46 these recordings were of his cousins playing in their yard, i think. 21:29 The widow - i inadvertently got my son into mars volta. This song, zed and the 2 naughts, and drunkship of lanters are some of his favorite songs. 27:50 my favorite song, if I'm at a bar with a jukebox, i'm playing this song without fail.

On L'Via , outro piano guitar groove. Latin Jazz pianist - Larry Harlow. Omar Rodriguez grew up listening to him, and managed to get him to play on this record. Flea playing trumpet on Miranda that gjost isn't Holy anymore. Fruciante on L'via solos. Great musicians colabs here

Ever listened to sleepytime gorilla museum? They’re kinda like TMV, really crazy compositions, insanely good musicianship, slowed down a bit compared to Mars Volta, and a much different vocal palette. But I think it’s a good comparison, they’re another one of those bands that stands alone in what they do

No one is better than sleepytime at playing with time signatures and tempo, going from very fast to very slow, or vice versa, over a very drawn out passage, transitioning smoothly (instead of at the drop of a hat at the end of a measure), all while staying together as a band

Love your videos and interactions but you need to like stop talking during songs. It ruins the build ups and viewing pleasure. Perhaps pause the album after each song and give your analysis. None the less, the way you react is how I am everytime i listen to Mars Volta. They're one of the best bands ever formed. Thomas P is a beast of a drummer. Watch his playthrough with Zildjin.
