The many different Porsche 935s of Le Mans 1981
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Porsche, together with Kremer, Joest and many others have made dozens of racing versions of the 930 generation Porsche 911. While they were all dubbed "935" almost all of them were unique. And while some had a few similarities here and there. Others had very little in common. The 1981 24h of Le Mans saw 10 different members of this diverse 935 family gather to duke it out for gt racing glory. So let's find out what exactly set these cars apart from each other, and which one was the best.

Privateers : "We like your 935 a lot. Can you please sell them to us so we can race ?" Porsche : "nein" Kremer and Lundgaard : "Fine, we'll do it ourselves then!" *A few years laterrrrrr* Porsche : "Hey Joest Racing, want some 935s ?" Joest : "Y E S"

Modern F1 cars are the most boring racing series imaginable it’s no wonder it lost its massive popularity.. I’m really grateful for all the channels who make videos about interesting cars when cars where still existing! Nowadays way to strict rules and the BOP bullshit is making racing unbelievably boring. Doesn’t matter if F1 or GT4(they have at least different engines), all the cars are way to similar to have favorites.. Yes it works in Nascar, but not in sportscar racing!

I love how obscure each of these cars are. Love your stuff and love the Ace Combat music. Perfect feel for this kind of history!
As a Porsche owner since 1972 with a 356, then a 1973 911s, then a 1985 911 Carerra and then a 1989 930 (911 Turbo), that was a great time in history for the wonderful 935's. Thanks for the great report.

I love watching these kinds of videos and learning about the history of motorsport. The range and depth of motorsport history is quite broad, and without videos like this I would never have known about these rivalries. I also appreciate how you include your sources in the description. One of these days I'll have to make a deep dive of my own! For the purpose of learning about the many different fields of motorsport history, I can really recommend the AUTOMOBILSPORT magazines. They are very high quality, beautifully made and always doing a deep dive on many different topics with every new issue. They are not cheap, but affordable and especially interesting as many articles are written by or produced with witnesses of the past. I've now collected all of them, and they are super valuable as a lot of information inside them is either hard to find, broken in pieces or nowhere else to be found.

they almost made a baby boxster sadly it got cancelled. It turns out that Porsche has decided to keep the Boxster as the sole entry point to the range, giving up on chasing volume sales. Porsche head of research and development, Wolfgang Hatz recently told Autocar, that the 718 project has stopped and that in his eyes, the Boxster is the "perfect entry point" into the Porsche range. Back in 2011, company boss Matthias Muller admitted that they would introduce a modern day version of the 550 Spyder to slot under the Boxster, however it now seems that such a model will not go into production any time soon. Our hopes for the project haven't been high since we heard Detlev von Platen, CEO of Porsche's North American operations, say that the 718 won't happen. If you're a fan of the Baby Boxster that almost was, you can still take comfort knowing that car manufacturers change their minds all the time and that even if they state that the company will never build this or that, the real translation for what they're saying is either "not in the near future" or "not while I'm in charge". After all, it was quite obvious that they were already testing the 718 last summer.

@@loganparker4001 with baby 911 i mean a car like the 912 in the 60's. A pure, basic version of the 911. A Cayman or Boxter isn't anything like a 911. Not 4 seaters, not daily driver practical, very different handling compared to a 911. Not saying they're bad or worse, they're just not baby 911's. On the same note i hope Alpine will make a 1000kg 4-seater sportscar, comfortable enough for longer journeys. Like the A610, but lighter and sportier, with a 4-cilinder turbo.
A video about more 935 developments would be cool.
This actually got me thinking, is it allowed in Hypercar category for different versions of WEC hypercars to be developed? Say we have 3-4 different versions of Toyota GR010, made by different kind of teams, then all of them are homologated?

My favourite part was the Ford Capri Zakspeed destroying the 935's in the DRM, but that same Zakspeed got Disqualified thanks to Porsche. They claimed Zakspeed made an identical rear spoiler to that of the 935, Zakspeed even uninstalled their rear spoiler to prove how ridiculous it was. Yet Porsche got support from another brand and was handed the DRM title back then, a year later Zakspeed still won with a different rear spoiler. Also a year later, Porsche brought the 936, lost at the Norschleife againts the Zakspeed, but won the title in the end. Group 5 was both a cool and a clown show.

What does "got support from an other brand back then and DRM title was handed to them" mean? Porsche never got support from anyone, they sometimes supported private teams....... last time I checked the customer 935s were not factory supported only in rare occasions when the factory car was out of the race and a team car had a chance to win. So factory mechanics would run and help that team. Kremmer was not a factory supported team, they did their own Thing...... what are your sources for the Porsche upset?
porsche literally rolling in cash from all the business their customer teams gave them haha
I loved it
