@@linusbroadbent2763 Each to their own mate but when you look at some of the names in and around the squad over the years Palour was playing I think it's pretty clear why he struggled to get a game.
Remember watching Ray make his debut at Anfield in 1992 and he conceded a penalty in the Wednesday night game on Sky. I watched the game before I headed out for night shift as a young copper then in East London. About 3am that morning, myself and a colleague in a panda car, stopped a vauxhall carlton near Romford that had a faulty light. When the driver got out, I immediately recognised it as Ray because of his hair and what I had watched about 6-7 hrs earlier. The guy I was with had no idea who he was. I had a quick chat with Ray about his car and the game. It was his mums car he was driving, and he was gutted about the penalty. I let him go, shook his hand and told most of my football mates about that story over the next few years. About 10 years later I was in a nightclub called Palms in Romford. We were watching the Arsenal v Newcastle evening game on one of the TV's inside . Ray was playing, I think he scored, and low and behold about 4 hrs later we spotted him in the nightclub with us. When he was alone I introduced myself and asked him about his debut and if he remembered being stopped by the police when nearly home. He did, so when I said it was me, we had a laugh, and he bought me a beer. Another copper I worked with had a daughter who passed away with cancer. Ray always arranged a signed Arsenal shirt for her annual cancer charity evening. Always had great respect for him as a player and a person ever since

sean, I was involved at Welling United at that time and George Armstrong would often send his reserve team down if someone was coming back from injury. About two weeks before that Liverpool game Arsenal sent a side down that had Glenn Helder, Chris Kiwomya among others. Ray Parlour was an unknown but scored a fantastic goal from 25 yards out. Turned on the TV a couple of weeks later and there he was making his first team debut.

For me the 2002 side was the last one which epitemised the famous never say die attitude of the graham years. After that the influence of the great arsenal defenced was more or less lost. Thank you M Wenger. He never ever was able to build the same mentality again. Something he should totally take responsibility for. Adding Sol and Toure was good but the spirit was never ever the same anymore. He just had no clue of the importance and the way to defend. Unfortunately for us.
Salt of the Earth is Ray. When your under pressure in life with your job, a young family and finances its easy to make mistakes. A few drinks now and then can lead to one to many. When I first came to London I lived in a bedsit in Holland Park. Went down to Shepherds Bush to watch QPR, Rodney Marsh, Stan Bowles and the Morgan twins. A really great team. Unfortunately a lot of grief with hooligans in the crowds. Football has changed so much from those days. It was hard men versus genius's back then. Rodney, Stan and George Best could deal with Billy Bremner and the Leeds boys but the contests were great. Miss you Ray, great interview. I live in Luton now and after a long exile we might be back in the Championship after 10 years ! Hope springs eternal in football for everyone.

My brother got a West Ham kits as his first football strip as well. Only problem was we lived in Glasgow in the late 1960s and he was a mad Celtic fan. West Ham was the only kit they had in the tiny sports shop in the town we were on holiday in. In those days you were just chuffed to get anything at all.
