It's poetic. As a jedi, Anakin always rushed things and preferred to use force. As a sith, Vader preferred to think things through and play the games of politics and society. Whatever side he was on, he acted in the way of the other.

I'm guessing the Emperor gave the promotion to Vader knowing full well he'd kill the general. I imagine a gift for his trials and obeying orders.

If I had Vader under my command I would follow the Veers method of “go with the flow” I would give Vader enough leeway for him to not feel restricted but not too much as to make him think I was spineless. With Vader, the only thing that will make you survive is if he respects you as a person. Tarkin is the perfect example of this. Tarkin was a tactical mastermind and a surprising skilled combatant given his advanced age and lean body. Vader has a very tribal way of thinking: strength and courage are what matter to him. Someone who can even slightly match his intensity will earn his respect.

Hans Strudel. Vader also had respect for generals and commanders who do not waste resources or troops. Vader heavily valued the Storm Troopers and hated Commanders that sent them to their deaths with poorly thought out tactics and strategies.

Yea same never seen a Star Wars movie and never watched any of the shows but these Star Wars lore channels have gotten me interested with the bigger story.

Empires need men like Casio Tagge to work. Empires are run on logistics: The Roman Empire rose to prominence because it fully understood that. Men with vision can create empires, but it's men with graphs who keep it running long after the visionary has passed away. The reason why the Empire collapsed after the death of Palpatine is because neither he nor Vader understood that fundamental truth.

In some of the side materials, it's noted that, while he wasn't a good navy commander, the Rebels respected Tagge's abilities and the Republic continued teaching his tactics even on the eve of the New Order attack. If Vader hadn't killed him for vain reasons, the Empire might actually have found enough Rebel fleet assets after Hoth to prevent their failure at Endor.

Seems like Motti would have been the better role for this. There was already the antagonism between him and Vader. Vader and Tagge were in agreement on the Death Star.
