The Mamas & The Papas aka The Meme Queens & The Meme Kings
The Mamas & the Papas were an American folk rock vocal group formed in Los Angeles, California, which recorded and performed from 1965 to 1968. The group was a defining force in the music scene of the counterculture of the 1960s. The group was composed of Americans John Phillips, Cass Elliot, and Michelle Phillips and Canadian Denny Doherty. Their sound was based on vocal harmonies arranged by John Phillips,[2] the songwriter, musician, and leader of the group, who adapted folk to the new beat style of the early 1960s.

This is literally my new favorite video on the Internet!! My favorite band 🥰 have you seen the video of Cass doing a pitch for yogurt? "There have been no wars in the name of yogurt." Or predicting Hamilton the musical! That's from a game show clip. Also that performance with Denny and Cass gets me every time 😭 I love them together so much

Guess,I was born in 1961 so they’d been big round mid 1960s and 1970 maybe the end of the band to be exact. I remember my older sissy having the copy of their latest album, she loved them. Id love to hang out in my sissies room, smelt strange” to me plus she coloured artist Peter Max artist doodle print a teenage thing to then. I’d have fun assistance. I loved Cass. Who I fast learned by getting her sensitivity & intelligence obviously my sister is similar. Hated being called Mama Cass ! Wouldn’t u, especially if you had a pretty name as Ellen?or Elanor? Since she scarcely said it…..hard to recall. Also I’m no Gen Z I’m 62 music lover . ..😊

@@PapaAlec Of course! Would love to see more, sadly there isn't a ton of live footage of the mamas and papas :(
W❤️ Mamas the Papas
RIP Eleanor ! The real voice of the mamas and the papas!,l
Fun fact: the reason why Michelle Phillips' mic wasn't working at Monterey was because Jimi Hendrix when on before the Mamas and the Papas, and his set blew out one of the mics.

It was actually The Who that broke the microphone!😊

@@PapaAlec My bad
Most iconic thing to me is the interspersed yeeeaahhs or nooooooss. Sometimes both in the same tune. (like Somebody Groovy)
banana mic : a revolution...
For Cass to say that John Phillips was left of her politically he must have been some lib. She was one of the most liberal forces on the planet and I can’t imagine anyone being left of her. 🤷♂️

Haha true! John actually said the line first when introducing Michelle and Cass before they sang Words of Love on Ed Sullivan. So it’s probably just part of their routine introduction that she was repeating
