Just fabulous!!!!!!!! Each collection Dior's crafts people utilize old techniques to create innovative designs that are just breathtaking. Dior's haute couture exibition is currently showing here in Tokyo. I have already been 13 times but I will visiti again this weekend, Everytime I go I discover new details I overlooked on preivious visits. Viva la HAUTE COUTURE!

If anybody is visiting Japan before the 28th of May you HAVE TO TRY and visit Dior's Haute Couture exhibition at the Tokyo museum of contemporary art. Tickets are all sold out but If you go really early like 8 to 9 in the morning you can hopefully get a same day entry ticket but the earlier you go the sooner you will get is as the number of tickets for each 30 minute time block is limited so if you go before 10am opening time you might only get in in the late afternoon. PLEASE try and go, the exhibition is fabulous!!!!

Having been behind the scenes at couture fashion shows in Paris what surprised me is how even a lot of the clothes that end up on the models bear a very loose resemblence to what the designer actually designed. When the seamstresses are interpreting the designs they often say "that shoulder won't work, this seam would be far too high, the lace on the neckline is too much, this needs a bow on the back, the underskirt isn't flattering" and make serious adjustments. They then show the final result to the designer who almost never questions the alterations to his or her design. What you see on the runway is often 50% the creation of an anonymous workroom and 50% the general silhouette and colour/fabric _suggestion_ of the designer.

Just gorgeous! And seeing the work and how the fabrics are created to make those beautiful clothes are AMAZING! I bow to the people behind each Dior designs. The models showcase the designs but each person who helped make those garments…WOW! I love seeing those behind the scenes.

I am thrilled to see an emphasis on beading and embellishing again, no one does it better than Dior.

fun fact: Dior lobbyed against paying living wages and ensuring good working conditions to the seamstresses in India who make their beading.

What seems "good working conditions" to a Westerner, has no relevance outside of Western cultures. Westerns are pretty good at thinking their way is the only right way. Stop!

Very beautiful; I'm going to have to crib that velvet technique on some curtains for my apartment. I really appreciate that they chose to highlight a woman of color, as well as employ POC artists / craftspeople to make the works special. I'm always impressed by these behind-the-scenes mini-documentaries put out by Dior, because the work is so detailed, that you need time to see it up close.

Shaping fabric with heat and fingers is an old northern Indian technique, the name escapes me but artisans used to travel from court to court setting dimple patterns in the sari silk and cotton to order for high-status ladies. It looks amazing when you see it on vintage Indian textiles.
