    This is my first time seeing the original Psychonauts graphics in a little while and I'd just like to remark what an absurd step up the Rhombus graphics are. Like, yes, that's kind of to be expected with a 12-year gap in industry progress between games, but still, Double Fine really made the most of it.

    I'd say quite the opposite, from my own experience. Texturing aside in some areas, Psychonauts for PC really holds up well. I was playing it recently in 1440p downsampled to 1080p, after putting up with compatibility mode shenanigans I was surprised by how well the artstyle masks its faults. Of course, I can't play Rhombus so I'm simply going by KZread footage, #exclusivityruinslives This new title looks like Psychonauts 1 with fancier lighting and larger areas (without loading doors/arches), and that's a massive plus for me.

    I don't agree, Bad Texture. I played both games: Psychonauts 1 on max settings on my PC and Rhombus of Ruin at PSX. Rhombus is a considerable step up in my opinion.

  • @Champiness

    Bad Texture That's fair. I was mostly thinking of the return of a certain spoilery character and how much I felt their excellent voice work was underserved by the original's stiff visuals - compared to the ostentatious, mincing workout they get in Rhombus. That Psychonauts was able to overcome its 2005-ness through sheer charisma more often than not doesn't keep me from marveling at where that charisma's able to get it nowadays.

  • @badtexture1062

    +hall9111 It looks amazing when you look at the lighting and effects, but what I was pointing out is the opposite; I'd say other than some select textures, Psychonauts 1 just still looks great. Downsampled from 1440p and 100Hz, it's still responsive, and the artwork still looks fine. The texturework and animation is quite a bit more rough around the edges, though, and that seems to be where the new entries excel most. Psychonauts 2 has much more visible improvements in the lighting and animation quality, and honestly I wouldn't want it any other way. It feels like taking steps forward instead of being a different game, and pretty much everything that DF has shared on the new title(s) seems to fit that description. It's continuing an existing game instead of being some radical departure or grand redesign, and I feel that pretty much anyone who liked the first game is probably going to like this one just as much. That, and it probably looks better than I can give them credit for. I missed the backing period due to some crappy circumstances and won't be attending any conventions; the only way I'm trying these out is by preordering Psychonauts 2 and [hopefully] playing the RoR port to GearVR (aka a complete pipedream).

    Just finished playing this! - Congratulations on making something really special for VR. This was really well done and I enjoyed every minute of it. It was so cool jumping to so many different perspectives and really playing with that rather than just using it to move around the environments. My favourite part was the doll's house probably because it was so unique. I'd recommend this above any other PSVR game so far!!

    Doesn't have to mean anything. Oculus Headsets are much easier to come by so I'd assume most of the team works with the Oculus (on PC, which is also what you use to work with the Unreal engine) and then periodically push it over to the PS4

  • @badtexture1062

    @badtexture1062

    +Oliver Eberlei Still, that means existing (though quite possibly unfinished) builds and testing on an Oculus. It'll happen... hopefully. Or, DF will read the fine print of their contract with Starbreeze and go "OH S@#%, WE SIGNED TO MAKE A STARVR EXCLUSIVE!" No matter what happens, speculation is pointless :\
