🔴 What Is Islam? ⚠️ 🔴 Islam is not just another religion. 🔵 It is the same message preached by Moses, Jesus and Abraham. 🔴 Islam literally means ‘submission to God’ and it teaches us to have a direct relationship with God. 🔵 It reminds us that since God created us, no one should be worshipped except God alone. 🔴 It also teaches that God is nothing like a human being or like anything that we can imagine. 🌍 The concept of God is summarized in the Quran as: 📖 { “Say, He is God, the One. God, the Absolute. He does not give birth, nor was He born, and there is nothing like Him.”} (Quran 112:1-4)[4] 📚 🔴 Becoming a Muslim is not turning your back to Jesus. 🔵 Rather it’s going back to the original teachings of Jesus and obeying him.

There are other factors besides the explanation: 1) When cutting just paper, the knife is held at an angle, so the blade/paper interface (contact area) is reduced to a single point. This focuses the entire force on a single paper fiber. On the potato, the interface is wider, even on top, since the potato is not 100% hard. It gives in a bit, expanding the interface to a short line. Further down, the blade/paper interface is literally 2-3 inches wide. 2) When cutting just paper, the blade moves across with respect to the cutting point 3 times, like a saw @0:17. No such motion on the potato: it's more "pressing down", not "sawing through"

I agree with the difference you pointed out between the presenter cutting paper along the crease at an angle and cutting a potato by pressing straight down. He wasn't comparing like with like. I went on to try cutting newspaper the "potato" way using a long carving knife with a straight blade, abruptly tapering to a rounded end. I laid the straight edge of the blade between the folded halves into the crease so the edge was in contact with the crease all along its length, not just at one point, then pulling hard on both the paper and the blade in opposite directions. A surprising amount of force was needed to cut newspaper like that. And impossible when I tried it with an ordinary sheet of office paper. Certainly more force than was needed to cut a potato with the same knife, with and without paper. Interesting though the effect is, I think it only demonstrates the different cutting properties of paper and potato.

Thanks. Curiosity Show was a national science program featuring Dr Rob Morrison and Dr Deane Hutton. It was made in Adelaide, South Australia and screened nationally in Australia as well as in Europe, Asia and Australasia (14 countries and dubbed in German for Europe) from 1972-1990. Deane and Rob intentionally used everyday items around the house (like old rusty cans) so that people could repeat the demonstrations with materials they had to hand. In 1984 Curiosity Show won the Prix Jeunesse International, the world's top award for TV programs for young people. Rob and Deane are steadily uploading segments at kzread.info Why not subscribe?
