I got my Irish ☘️ passport back in 2016 before brexit referendum and I am glad I got mine . A few from now I am due my second Irish passport shortly in a few years time from now , and I have Irish family living in cork today as my mum side are Irish as only 1 side is Irish ☘️ welcome to the Irish club with us slaw now. Mr slaw comes with mrs slaw and you have your marriage certificate the 90 days won’t apply to mrs slaw as long as she is with you as I used my Irish passport in Spain 🇪🇸 and Cyprus 🇨🇾 already. Welcome to the Irish citizen club with us. My Irish passport took 8 weeks back in 2016 to arrive and my citizenship took 6 months to get in 2016 and it was not long than like it now.

Thanks for some great info Julia!
Hi Slaw and Mrs Slaw, Slaw’s passport won’t be stamped when you enter the EU but Mrs Slaw’s will need to be stamped. I’ve had my Irish passport for a few years now - my parents were Dubliners who moved to England, where I was born, but because they were both born in Ireland that automatically made me an Irish Citizen and so I only needed to apply for a passport, whereas my daughter had to apply for citizenship first because, although im an Irish citizen, I wasn’t born in Ireland. Apart from motorhoming in France,we also fly to Spain a lot and I get waved through the EU gates but hubby has to queue in a seperate lane to get his passport checked and stamped, which is a bit of a pain. In Spain I’m not tied to 90 in 180 days but as long as I don’t exceed 183 days in total for the year in Spain, then I’m ok. If I’m in Spain for more than 183 days then I would be classed as a fiscal resident and would have to pay taxes there. I believe that if my husband wanted to be in France and Spain for longer than 90 days in 180 he can do this only if he is travelling with me (me being the one with the golden ticket😂) but we would have to show proof of marriage etc and it’s all relatively untested at this point and I believe our marriage cert may need to be apostilled by a solicitor first - it’s something I’m still trying to look into for when we are able to be in France and Spain for longer - sorry this is such a long winded reply but I think I may have kissed the Blarney Stone 💚☘️🇮🇪

Hi the Slaws, there is a very good pod cast/youtube from Motorhome Matt (are driving licences changing)explaining about new entries into Europe that comes into force in October. Gap decades also explained about Irish passports, as they are in the position as you, he’s Irish she’s British, and as far as I understand it you will be free to spend as long as you like in the Schengen zone, because of Simon’s Irish passport.

Just remember that the dogs got Irish passports before Slaw!!😎 I have seen a number of reports on Facebook from people where one partner has an EU passport ; stories seem to vary as to the requirement for the non-EU passport holder having to had their British passport stamped. I am sure that it will all become clear very quickly.

Congratulations Slaw....wow 2 years is a long old wait! I did chuckle when Slaw said he would take his other passport as a backup😂...better to be safe than sorry👍 I'd already figured out Slaw was derived from his initial 'S' and his surname Law....but it was interesting to find out he used to be called coleslaw....does he still have that hard hat? Looking forward to your big road trip in May...I'm assuming a colour-coordinated folder will be involved??😂 take care guys ❤

I went the same route as Slaw when we retired and bought the Motorhome!! It’s great to have the passport!! According to EU you both have the same right to stay in the Schengen zone for more than 90 days!! Also you both can use the EU channel if travelling together. However, prepare for discussion as it’s a poorly understood process (edge case I guess)!! re: UK/IE - There is freedom to travel and live in both zones for citizens (Common travel area) you only need a photo ID to I’d to get into IE and stay as long as you like!! Oh and Irish passport is not stamped in EU!

There's a lot of Irish people in Yorkshire and some Leeds and other part's of Yorkshire
@TheSlawsAdventures
3 ай бұрын
There are indeed! We’ve no idea why Slaw’s g grandparents moved to Yorkshire in the 1920s? G grandad was a British Soldier serving in Ireland when he married Irish g grandma and grandad was born in Dublin. They moved to Essex then Yorkshire?? A bit random 🤔
I am married to an Irish man (am Swiss) and I automatically inherited the Irish citizenship. I even received a page confirming my citizenship but I think I had to apply for that confirmation. I then applied for a passport, many years ago, which I used to travel now and again. I however let it expire as the renewal is a bit of a pain with 4 pages to fill in. I could re-apply whenever I want.
@Noursbear

We were looking on the website about passport renewal, for me, and we've just read the following "the acquisition of Irish citizenship by way of post nuptial declaration ceased with effect from 29.11.2005 and therefore it is not possible to apply retrospectively". Now there is a new rule, not only do you have to be married 3 years but now you have to live 3 years in Ireland. In my case I should be ok because I have this certificate. I am sorry that you are missing out 😭.
@TheSlawsAdventures
3 ай бұрын
I think that acquisition no longer applies? Mrs Slaw doesn’t want to be an Irish citizen and has no legal claim to it. But, as she is married to Slaw, if she travels with him she can exercise the same treaty rights (we think!)

You dont need a passport to travel from England or UK to Ireland as since 1921 it's the common travel area. I and my wife have both we travel out on a british and land in europe we use the Irish that way the dont stamp your british one and your not subject to 101 questions etc. !!

My tip is always carry your marriage licence and as long as you're travelling together no problem. Don't forget that it was always the case that you weren't supposed to be in any European country for more than 90 days without applying for residency. A lot of people have forgotten this because when the UK was part of EU each countries authorities, notably the French and the British authorities didn't bother controlling it so things were cool. For example in Germany things were very strictly controlled, my daughter had to go through a lot of strict procedures to stay longer than 90 days and she had a job there.

My husband has been saying for years that I need to get a Irish passport. My grandfather was born in Co.Mayo, I can find him on the 1901 and 1911 census but I have found it hard to find any birth records for him. Due to what happened in Ireland during the civil war I thought it was hard to get birth certificates for people born around that time due to records being destroyed. What site did you find Slaw's grandfather birth records. A really interesting video :- )
