Harper Ross - In a deleted scene, Peter Ludlow does twist the facts surrounding the deaths of three people: Ray Arnold, Robert Muldoon and Donald Genarro. However, Arnold’s first name is given as “John” instead of Ray. And since Malcom didn’t meet or know about Nedry, he obviously didn’t know about his death. I’m guessing Hammond didn’t know either. Everyone else probably just assumed Nedry escaped the island. I’m not sure anyone else who went to the island, other than Genarro, knew about the guy at the beginning. Hammond doesn’t even tell Alan or Ellie when he meets them. He doesn’t even say what kind of park he wants them to invest in until they arrive on the island. Malcolm only knew about the deaths of Arnold, Genarro and Muldoon. Maybe someone told them about the worker later, but Ludlow only mentions Arnold, Muldoon and Genarro.

Ian Malcolm can count, If you remember correctly. Dennis disappeared, they had no idea if he got eaten or left for the boats. He vanished without a trace. Though I have been told that in the extended universe of JP they do find Dennis's corpse but this information was never made public. So ha! He can count! Also, in the first movie he told the audience he married multiple times. Meaning he divorced multiple times leaving the probability of the 2 kids living with their mother(s).

The girlfriend and ecoterrorist were the primary cause of every death on the island, which always grated my nerves. The guy especially touted himself as some upstanding citizen but he valued these manufactured creatures over the lives of actual human beings. That said, between the original two movies, while I love the original, this one was, and still is my favourite. As far as I'm concerned, the other movies don't exist. The movie is long (which I prefer) and has its flaws, it gives me what the first film did, just more of it.

It means that either their main camp is right next to where the 2 are trying to lure out the parent T-Rexes (this is the guy that didn't want them to set up camp on a game trail), or that truck really defied physics and went flying across the island to where they were set up. There are actors who don't act but are simply born with a recognizable face. People who feel acting keen dislike them for just being decoys. It's like fast-food compared to good restaurants: they put tons of hot sauce in it just to hide the rotting meat smell and add chemicals to make the food highly addictive. So your mouth explodes and you consider it a good thing "cause you feel a lot at once". Well, not all people are like that. Some enjoy the subtle taste of fresh mozzarella, of the dough that was used for the pasta, of the apple-mango sauce with cream... Kids eat chips and icecream with chocolate syrup and think it's good. And you can do nothing to convince them that this kind of food is worse. They grow fat, get diarrhea, get pimples and heart issues but they still think it's good cause it tastes strong. Well, ok, kids' junk food is Ernest Scared Stupid, McD is JP2. And Interstate 60 is lobster and wine. Just imagine all this food has about the same price. What will you choose? What will you fill yourself with? That's the choice.

The problems with this film are a bit more than just nit-picks - Although to be fair both this film and the sequel book it's based on were just made as quick cash grabs and the pacing of the book is not much better, but I actually liked the heroes in the book and disliked the villain, making the slow build u less of an issue.

I would respectfully disagree. While 3 is pretty pointless The Lost World is offensive to human intelligence. I mean, Vince Vaughn's character is pretty much directly responsible for getting most (if not all) of the dinosaur hunters killed and continues to be a dick even after they save team Goldblum. And the kicker? He gets no comeuppance! He gets away scott free and the "bad-guys" were nearly killed to a man for being mean to the genetically engineered monsters. I mean, the dude was an ecoterrorist! He killed people! But he's the hero and big corporation bad! It's not like the hunters had families and needed the money to support the people they love. Lets just feel bad for the genetically engineered theme park monsters that they always play up as big and majestic until they start murdering everyone. Why does no one else notice this!? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills! God dammit this movie infuriates me! Sorry. Not yelling at you, Justin Lynch, just venting my rage at the movie.

i do too. I've never understood why so many people think it's so bad. I was recently listening to RedLetterMedia's commentary for the first movie, and Jay just went off on how terrible a movie The Lost World is, because he'd just watched it prior to them watching Jurassic Park, and he's all "Oh my god, it was so bad, it's terrible, there's nothing good about it, it's so boring and so stupid..." and I'm just like, "Dude... it's really not that bad." It's one of those movies where people seem to WANT to hate for some reason, and they just do nothing but focus on what they can find that's bad about it while ignoring everything that's good about it. Even while watching this review, the whole time, I'm either, "What are you talking about? This scene totally works." or "Okay, yeah, that's a flaw, but why are you focusing on that instead of the good things about this scene?".

I freaking agree with you both. This movie is really good because it's trying to be an extremely different movie. In another episode, Doug claims that "it suffers from the story and plot being the same as the first movie". How on earth is the story being retold? Almost every aspect of this movie is different from the first. There are many other objections. However I always respect everyone's opinions and nobody's opinion is right or wrong, so if they don't like it, don't argue or try to change their mind.

I frequently agree with Stuckmann but not about this. Man, do I dislike this movie. There's no awe or reverence for the creatures and I just don't care about any of the characters. They aren't empathetic or interesting. They stripped Ian of his smugness and wit. And I don't know how they managed it, but Julianne Moore, who I usually love, is 100% unlikable as Sarah. Matter of fact, the entire film is a bunch of unlikable jerkwads acting dumb and talking over each other. It doesn't work for me at all. The best scene in the film is the one where the van is dangling over the side of the cliff. When Sarah's lying on the glass, it's terrifying. But it's ruined at the end by all the dicks cracking wise about McDonald's, when they haven't earned enough goodwill for that shit. Visually, I think the film is well done. The raptors in the grass moment is actually better than any moment in the first movie. But without someone to root for, every flaw was magnified by one hundred. That said, it wasn't as godawful as the third one. But, that's not really a compliment.

@@AWSVids Biggest gripe towards this movie seems to be caused by the fact that most of the characters are unlikeable, and the few likeable characters (Eddie, Kelly and Tembo) don't get enough screentime. Action scenes were pretty good though.

Agreed. The lost world Jurassic park is such an inferior sequel compared to the 1993 original. With grating characters making mistake after mistake, themes that aren't as well handled as the original movie, and while techinally a well made movie, it's just painful to sit through all the garbage that was compiled during the plot of the movie. Well, things could be worse I guess (Jurassic park 3).

3:23 Way too late to be calling you out on this I know, but yes, Malcolm saying 3 makes sense. He and the others never knew about the worker that died at the start, why would Hammond tell them about that after inviting them to his park? The island was abandoned and Nedry's body was never found, they no doubt assumed he escaped the island, sold what he stole and went into hiding.

3:24 well to be fair #1 died before they went on the island and his death was either known by them and that's why they were invited to the island, or kept as a secret in which case Goldblum wouldn't know about him. Also #5 I don't think Dennis counts as noone would know what happened to him, noone saw him die so he could either have escaped or got killed but noone knows for sure unless someone found his glasses in a pile of dino poop.

  • @AlienPatch

Even so, the mistakes weren't really 1:1. Ludlow didn't so much believe (I THINK) he was in control of life itself as much as he thought was in his right to carry dinosaurs to dry land just for profit. To equate Hammond with this guy was more than a little insulting towards Hammond and rather patronizing on Dr. Malcom's part.
