Set thousands of years before the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, the series is based on author J. R. R. Tolkien's history of Middle-earth. It begins during a time of relative peace and covers all the major events of Middle-earth's Second Age: the forging of the Rings of Power, the rise of the Dark Lord Sauron, the fall of the island kingdom of Númenor, and the last alliance between Elves and Men.[1] These events take place over thousands of years in Tolkien's original stories but are condensed for the series.

to give you a little help with the lore: the Valar (elvish/the powerful): there are 13 of them. Morgoth was the most powerful one, but he is not longer count as one of them. the Maiar (elvish/the beautyful): many thousands, maybe millions. Most of them are in service of one of the Valar. Sauron was a Maiar of Aule (the Valar of Smithery/he created the dwarves), Gandalf was of a Maiar close to the Valar Nienna (the Valar who changes grief into wisdom). The real (Maiar) name of Gandalf is Olorin. the Balrogs: very, if not the most powerful serverants of Morgoth. Most of them had been destroyed at the battle at the end of the first age. At least one escaped. Numenor: the Island was a gift to the three houses of men who fought with the elves against Morgoth. However, most men fought for Morgoth. the twins Elros and Elrond: Were born during the wars of the first age. Let's say they had a harsh youth. They are grandchildren of Beren and Luthien (the most important story of all of Tolkien's works/the original Aragorn and Arwen). Beren was a human. Luthien was half elvish, half Maiar. Their grandsons Elros and Elrond could choose their faith, either to live a mortal life, or to be an elf. Elrond picked one side, Elros the other. Elros became the first King of Numenor. He had a very long life of 500 years. His direct descendants were the only humans who had longer life spans, Aragon, for example. ps: I wanted to use layman's terms in this little summary. And I tried to keep it as short as possible. It's purpose was only to help Justin a little. Please feel free to add anything of interest.

They're not really jealous they're afraid of dying because it is know what happens to the elves when they die from combat for example they stay in the world as spirits but men when they die it is unknown where they go. The ironic part is that the elves call mortality the Gift of men and the men of Numenor call it the Doom of men, so it's mostly fear that drives their hatred and jealousy

We know the one ring corrupts it's wearer and no one has been able to destroy it intentionally. That does not mean no one could have. I think Sam could have. Sam is the only person in the history of the Ring ever to hand it to someone else. Well, there's also Tom bombadil, but he couldn't be bothered to destroy it if you asked him.

Halbrand could possibly be ONE of the NINE Kings Adar (Father) could possibly be the Witch King of Agmar Meteor man could be an unnamed wizard who helps the Hardfoot and they help him to be good instead of evil creating a bond of friendship. This aligns the fondness and care Gandalfhas shows towards the Hobbits in the Third Age and asks the Dunidine to watch over the Shire at times when Gandalf is not there. I believe this series is continually making connections to the story line in the movies.

@@NecropsY1 no offence, dark or light Elves, are not considered ordinary. Sauron, we were told, is often disguised as an Elf. If not, we’re good with that also. The ground work of poison and destruction, that is inflicted on the Southlands, eventually becoming Sauron’s stronghold in Mordor. We all know the end of this story, the HOBBIT and LOTR was a set of books written about the Third Age, with a plot to destroy the ring, and Frodo’s journey to overcome (with the aid of Sam) numerous times adversity and creating bonds of loyalty and friendship is the brilliantly place story, unlike the writings of the Second Age, which are mostly references. The First Age was the creation on the world in detail. It’s exciting and we’re both looking forward to witnessing how this marries into what we already know as the GOAT of the Fantasy Movies.

Young Galadriel is described as very proud, maybe to the point of looking arrogant as she does on the show ... ? They are mixing and rearranging pieces of the story, I think because of copyright and storytelling needs, let's see where are they going with all of this. I'm enjoying the show a lot anyway, even if sometimes it throws me off a little. I can't wrap my head about Halbrand .... he can be Sauron in disguise and not this Adar, but also Sauron should appear as Annatar, the "Lord of Gifts". I think I really need to watch it all to have an opinion on the show.

haha The Isle of Newmans. Numenor. Best part of the series is hearing these takes by Jane. :) The Uruk-hai orcs that were mostly in the Lord of the Rings movies were normal orcs bred with humans so they could endure the sunlight. There were normal orcs as well of course but their issues with the sun were mostly ignored I guess for time reasons. Shortly after Gandalf got to Minas Tirith Sauron had been forcing Mt. Doom to cover the lands around Mordor in darkness and that darkness had reached Minas Tirith. That also wasn't shown in the movies at all. The balrogs can't choose their forms. That is a power all Maiar have from the start it's true, but they traded that power in for the extra demonic power they got from Morgoth. Likewise even Morgoth himself eventually lost the power to change because of how much power he distributed among his servants. Of course that doesn't mean it can't be a balrog here. lol The writers of the Rings of Power have no rights to the real stories so they ignore them. :) So whatever our guess for who the meteor man is and whatever our reasons, any of us can be wrong. Based on the lore I know it isn't any of the wizards but should be a Maiar, it's just one that hasn't been named in the story yet and there is plenty of speculation about. Again, the lore means nothing. This story is not following it.

It began with the forging of the great films. Threads were given by Tolkien, wisest and fairest of them all. The rights were then given to Jackson, a great miner and craftsman of the mountain of lore. And nine, nine hours were gifted to the race of men, who above all else, desired quality But they were all of them deceived, for another show was made. In the land of Amazon, in the fires of Mount Prime, the Dark Lord Bezos forged in secret a master flop And into this show he poured his money, his greed and his will to dominate all film One show to ruin them all

  • @Berndr

As clever as this is written... if it only were true ... Jackson's films are only great if you decide to become totally biased and on purpose ignore the fact that Jackson did not follow Tolkien's Lore either! True The plotlines and Lore Jackson did like, he did it quite well! He erased the entire Old forest plotline and with it, Tom Bombadil, Goldberry, and Old Oak ... these are one of the most iconic characters from the Lord of the rings! Jackson changed lots of mid-parts of the story and ruined some characters like Faramir ... Got rid of the Saruman in the Shire plotline the true ending of the book and wrote his own ending with it literally changing the story! Jackson was not respectful even of some basic Lore either ...For example, Aragorn in the book as a descendant of Numenor people and due to his elvish ancestry is unable to grow any facial hair ... it is one of Major Tolkiens lore when describing Numenor line! Yet Peter Jackson completely disrespected Lore and gave Aragorn a beard to make him look more manly because that was the Zeus Image he liked more ... In my opinion, that is not any worse than Amazon removing a beard from a dwarf woman to make her more feminine... What makes it worst, in my opinion, is that Jackson actually had full copyright on all source material needed for the Lord of the rings movies yet he still was incompetent to follow it and for some personal reason changed the entire ending of the book! Amazon at least has an excuse due to lack of copyright to 2nd age, hence can only use glossaries and references about 2nd age mentioned in the Lord of the rings book , the reason they need to dance around lots of copyright issues and adopt it differently! And for your reference, Amazon does not actually write nor direct anything they invest in scripts proposed by other directors and claim copyright to streaming services and provide marketing ... The quality of any Amazon TV series truly depends on how talented the Director who came up with the script proposal is, and of course, the crew and actors hired by that director... That's why you will also get some great TV programs from Amazon such as Boys or Reacher because The Director for that show was more talented and hired a better-skilled crew and writters to work with!

The funny thing is : the Jackson prologue completely butchers the actual lore. No mention of who made the rings and why - it has nothing to do with the "strength and will to govern each race". All the rings were made by the elves for the elves in order to slow the passage of time and change.

@@Berndr Tolkien never says whether Aragorn had a beard, though in a letter in 1972 he said he imagined Aragorn beardless. However he said it was because of his elven ancestry, but Tolkien never said elves don't have beards and in fact in LOTR, Cirdan is described as having a long gray beard (and Aragorn's ancestor kings had beards). So Tolkien himself didn't follow his own lore.
