I like hearing these stories, but I also completely agree with Viggo, that "it's only brought up because we're actors". He's extremely humble about it, because he's right, it's not a big deal. A lot of the stunt people have a really rough time.

Well to be true, this kind of accident is only interesting because it happens to the guy who plays Aragorn. Its not about like giving credit to the actual accident or whos had it worst, just the image of Aragorn with one tooth missing is worth more, be it Viggo or not.

@@Solanza I mean actors are worth a lot on a set, they're the only unreplacable people, with maybe the director. So yeah them hurting themselves is a big deal. It's nice of Viggo to bring attention to other crew members but it's not going to change anything and it's normal we pay more attention to actors.

@@hi-ve1cw Stuart Townsend. Apparently he had some issues with the production and skipped a lot of training sessions. According to Peter Jackson he was just becoming a pain to work with so they booted him (although the cast all seemed to get along with him) They then brought in Viggo last second as a replacement while they were already filming and he barely had any time to learn the lines and get acquainted with everyone. And yet he still nailed the role. He also had very little time to train for fights but the trainer they had described Viggo as one of the most natural swordsmen he’s ever worked with.

As far as I know he's still friends with some stunt people :) He even bought “asfaloth“ the white horse arwen rides on in fellowship of the ring, for liv Tylers stunt double because she loved the horse dearly and couldn't afford it :') Viggo is a great human being.

Makes the film a masterpiece, but I bet it was trying for many of the crew. Also I've heard that Howard Shore was an absolute nightmare to work with regarding the score.

Honestly, i don't think this was an amusement all the way through for anyone, not even Peter Jackson himself. Of course, they're not gonna show people being pissed off on set, or bickering with Peter over creative decisions. They show the cool moments but you're not gonna have only cool moments in a production like this. It went on for several years, over 1 year mostly shooting the scenes. It's hard work, not just fun. But i'm not saying that's a bad thing. In a project of passion you'll have good and bad moments. Frustration and satisfaction. Pleasure and pain. That's often the necessary process when you want to archieve something big. Not a good band in the world that doesn't get into arguments in the rehearsal room. No author who doesn't go crazy trying to get his writing perfect. No athlete who didn't face failure and injury before becoming the best.

That whole mount doom scuffle was actually just them behind the scenes. Andy got real mad at Elijah for eating the last cupcake and bit off his finger, Elijah screamed in pain on the floor as Andy danced "Yes. Yes!" when found a piece of the cupcake on his hand after all. Elijah got mad and wrestled Andy and they fell down the stairs.. Peter just happened to come by with a cameraman when this was happening.. Luckily Andy was wearing the suit and their break room was excessively green.

And the only thing Viggo had to say about it was _'Yeah, but it only gets mentioned (him getting hurt) because I'm an actor. There were crew and stunt people who got hurt worse than any of us.'_ Truly a good person. He really does deserve all the praise he gets.

Such a raw, unrestrained production. It's become kind of cliche to say that they don't do 'em like this anymore, but there's some truth to it. I can't think of any major release in recent times that could have that much confidence in their director's vision. It must've been so fun to work in this.

Viggo had a tooth piece knocked out, chunks taken out of his hands AND broke his toes kicking a helmet, among other injuries that probably aren't mentioned and continued to film as if he doesn't feel pain . . . He's the ultimate member of the fellowship of the ring.

How young they were! Well, cast, crew, and director... you made a trilogy that changed the world. Winning 11 Oscars was only the beginning. The movies changed filmmaking, and they've only become more popular in the 2 decades since. Now they are more than entertainment; they are a sort of guiding light in a chaotic world... and that's no sort of overstatement. I mean it sincerely.

I love how filming the Lord of the Rings was its own adventure.

All these wonderful actors endured hell on Earth to make this and did it with a smile on their faces, they deserve all the accolades they can get!

These behind the scenes make the movie even more of a masterpiece, because we get to see how amazingly dedicated everyone was! Story, casting, directing, production... everything just went perfectly on LOTR. Nothing can ever beat that.

Rewatching the full trilogy again, the extended editions ofc. Up to Two Towers and they just don't make movies like this anymore. Undisputable masterpieces.

Viggo Mortensen, (The Ranger) would absolutely be one of those people I’d want to meet on my journeys. Such a,, a, amazingly cool person/character!

As a kid, I absolutely loved these movies and watched the behind the scenes stuff repeatedly, especially before the next movie came out b/c I was so impatient for it. There hasn't been anything to compare to it since.

I love that Viggo mentioned the stunt staff and all the work they did. Really well deserved.

Viggo as a person embodies Aragorn. The humbleness, the practicality, the caring. Its one of those times where the casting was perfect

Andy Serkis is without a doubt the unsung hero of the LOTR trilogy. This man always puts in 1000%

When you really think about it, it’s actually insane how much danger directors are willing to put their actors in just to finish the movie.

But honestly mad respect to the producers for allowing them to talk about this stuff, nowadays this would be kept quiet lol

Clearly they were passionate filmmakers and that passion comes out on screen when you see the movie

When I listen to them I get the feeling of real, honest people talking. No one playing star, no a-holes, no one saying how strong and brave he is for carrying on with a broken tooth.

Crazy that Fellowship came out 20 years ago! LOTR is still my favorite movie trilogy of all time

It was nice to hear Viggo acknowledge how people other than the stars (stunt guys) were getting hurt much worse and how it only got so much attention because he is an actor. Considering how so many actors think they are the center of the universe it just hit me as a very refreshing statement

Agree. Very balanced perpective.

There's a simple beauty in a practical effect rather than just the entire scene is just green screen. It's that feeling of a bit realism and authenticity that we rarely see nowadays.

I love how Viggo doesn't even consider that tooth injury all that serious, immediately comparing it to the more serious injuries the stunt crew had. That's a honorable man right there.

All the actors dedication here are really great! specially the commitment on how they really give there all just to finish a scene. Wish i could be part of it just even a small roll, ill be happy!

This just shows how perfect the movies are. The actors were SO hard working, the team was just perfect. It shows SO much.
