I always really liked tommen. If he had been the first born and raised to be king, I think he would have been a great king. He was kind and cared about individuals even if he didn't know them. He never wanted anyone to suffer. He had the personality to lead a very prosperous realm if he had been properly prepared and also had good guidance.

I think the biggest reason I rooted hard against Cersei in her POV chapters is because of Tommen, I just knew her scheming against Margaery would ruin whatever chance he'd have of a secure position.

Tommen’s death scene is one of my absolute favorites of the show and maybe in tv overall. The cinematography chosen was perfect and really emphasized the loneliness and despair he felt in that moment.

Poor Tommen. He died as a kind soul with his honor intact.

I really love the contrast between Joffrey and Tommen. Joffrey grew up all his live knowing he would be king, and was fed the rhetoric by his mother that he was entitled to anything he wanted, so the moment he got power, immediately abused it and demanded obedience that a God would possess. It made us think ""What if someone good had this power". Introduce Tommen. No doubt he has a kind heart, but truly lacked the will to rule, and was far too easily manipulated. Proving that being a nice person, doesn't make you a good ruler. You sometimes need the ruthlessness of Joffrey, but with the kind heart of Tommen. But both on their own are a disaster. It even got to a point where when the faith had begun taking over, people were wishing Joffrey was still king to destroy them. Yes, wanting Joffrey back. That perfectly shows the contrast

While that’s true I don’t think it was Tommens fault he got manipulated he was a child with trash role models and advisors look at sansa and how much she learned as she got older if Tommen had gotten the same chance as Joffrey when the situation wasn’t total shot house he would have been a great king imo he couldn’t bare to see his people get obliterated by the explosion so he killed himself i think that says it all

Maybe if Tywin had still been alive to guide him away from Cersei....hell imagine how King's Landing and the Lannister family would be if Tyrion hadn't killed his father.

With the help of Queen Margaery, I think Tommen would’ve grown to be a good king. He was so young so things like that take time.

Fun fact; Tommen was only 9 in the books when he married Margaery.

Best option for tommen is if tywin lived, he be the one to keep everything together while all around the westeros is in collapses. There is also Kaven Lannister who is also a best option for Tommen but his dead and all the options are out of the question. Edit: in desperate times you need to make compromises like sell Tommen or the throne to another great House like Tyrell or Hightowers.

Tommen had so much potential. If only he had Joffery's spine.

Loved Tommen in the show... however he was easily manipulated, high sparrow, Margery, yes kind but a king that could be easily manipulated could be a very big liability. This is how I viewed it and it’s only my opinion regarding his suicide. I think he knew his mother, Cersie had everything to do with the explosion and didn’t want to choose between his crown or his mom, as mean as Cersie was, and I’m sure he knew, he loved his mother, then also possibly loving Margery, feeling like he had no one because he couldn’t trust his mother, Tyrion gone, Mycella his sister gone, not sure exactly if he loved Joffrey or not, but his brother gone and who he thought was his father dead, this poor boy truly felt alone, if Cersie wasn’t off getting her revenge on the septor lady, she could of been there for him or at least tried to be. Now what I mean by easily manipulated, I mean Margery has stated before she wants to be THE queen, after Joffreys death she shows up to Tommen knowing full well he’s next in line, she manipulated him into marrying her, then the high sparrow comes, practically gives him an ultimatum about becoming one of them, and then he does. A king shouldn’t be this easily manipulated, but in the end, poor Tommen, if he wasn’t with a crazy family and had all the right people at his side, he would of been a good king.

Tommen is like Tytos Lannister. Game of Thrones is like dejavu. King Joffrey and Tyrion's relationship was like King Aerys and Tywin Lannister.

normally that would be true, but the Baratheon genes are super dominant, and Robert's bastards all look like him, including the ones he had with blonde haired women. This is what Ned Stark figured out in that book he got from Pycell and from talking to all the suspected royal bastards of king's landing. Your point is why Robert never even suspected that they might not be his. (GRRM confirmed in an interview that he was never suspicious of them) Unless you really dig into the evidence, it makes perfect sense that his kids could resemble their mother more then him.

I mean the show makes it seem like he’s a bad king because we view the main characters as important but tommens decision to align witch the faith seemed to go well with the common people which is what a king should prioritize

His resolve when he commits suicide shows he could’ve been a great king, just got so manipulated

A King manipulated by anyone, is no king at all, he is just a Royal Seal that breathes.

Well I think his death is directly linked to the reason why you don't have a child on the throne

Imagine if Tywin had been kind to Tyrion. Tommen would have had amazing mentors. Tywin would have molded him to be an incredible King. Between Tywin and Tyrion and even Jamie they would have made probably found a way to defeat the white walkers and have Daenerys neutralized.

When watching the show I kept getting confused as Tommen is played by the same actor as the son of Kevan Lannister, Martyn Lannister.
