The Legend of Zelda Nes Remake Gameplay Beta v0.7.0
Ойындар
Hello, I'm LloydEmpty from France and I'm a Zelda fan. Here's an example of what you can create yourself with Unreal Engine, FMOD, Blender and Gimp.
Of course it's not perfect, but with time, it's possible to achieve a fairly professional result.
Enjoy this re-imagining of The Legend of Zelda: Nes, inspired by the Nintendo Switch remake of Link's Awakening.
My aim here is to practise creating a Zelda-style engine on an unreal engine.

@teruienages962 it wasn’t that long ago when they essentially made a 3d version of alttp, right? it doesn’t seem that unreasonable imo edit: to clarify, im responding to the idea that nintendo isn't or wouldn't put effort into a similar project at the moment. I’m referring to albw, but the links awakening remake also adds credibility to my claim imo. A direct remake from this console generation and a near remake from the previous gen. Just a note about the text. You have Link finding full Heart Containers in the field, which increases his hearts by one. This is accurate to the original game and fine. However, the text calls them "Pieces of Heart" which is later series terminology for an item that you need to collect 4 of before Link's hearts will increase. If you're going to call them Pieces of heart, you would need to change the icon to be only 1/4th of the container being full and obviously it not increasing Link's hearts until he finds four of them. The one Link buys in the video is more correctly labeled a Heart Container and not a Piece of Heart, so just keep the inconsistency in mind.

@@doggity5149 who considers fangames part of the narrative? How could a company claim that a game made by one guy that is clearly a fangame is any competition to any official Nintendo release? Fangames don't steal sales, if anything they MAKE MORE sales because demographics that wouldn't be in their ecosystem might actually discover something that leads them to the real thing. It's like fan art. It's literally people saying "we love your stuff" and basically making a free advertisement for them. I seriously doubt any fangame is any threat to anything Nintendo has ever or will ever release. Full stop. Can you think of ANY IP across any medium where the fanfic is considered canon? this is awesome, it almost looks official! Y'all need to keep these things private until they're completely done bro you're just asking for it to be taken down now
This is really promising. I'm usually not a big fan of remakes like this because people usually underestimate the effort that goes into it, while being constantly feeling the limitations of the original game. However, you guys seem to be mindful of all that and add extra stuff where possible! If you're open for criticism, here's two things that stick out to me: 1. The intro with the cave where you have to find the sword is fantastic, great idea. However, for a first challenge (and maybe even one that serves as a soft tutorial similar to what the Game Boy games did!) it's comparatively tough. Pushing blocks in a certain pattern and a tightrope walk with spikes is overdoing it a bit. It feels a bit like you're designing this game for people who played the original a few dozen times. That's totally valid, but I think the better approach would be to treat this game like the original - the first Zelda game anyone could have ever played. I think this will make for a much smoother, gradual experience. You're free to add extra dungeons towards the end that really challenge players! This applies to stuff outside the gameplay too (for example, you don't HAVE to keep in stuff like "EAST PENINSULA IS THE KEY" just because it was in the original and it became inadvertently iconic. It doesn't really add much to your game.) 2. The area underneath Level 1 with the water puzzle is mind-blowing, I really, really love it! That's a fantastic idea to play with expectations, as well as adding fun content for veterans. However, I think it would benefit from scaling down. It's such a vast area with not much in between that it almost feels out of place of the game. The fact that it's an open area and not "room by room" like the rest of the dungeon is already pushing it and one of the biggest beauties of the original game was that it was so small while bursting at the seams with content. I think the game would benefit from keeping that concept - both with the overall game and new areas like these. (Also, the tightrope walk parts don't seem that much fun. Falling down and starting over is often times pretty frustrating. Maybe a maze or something would be better?) Great stuff though, I'm really excited for this. Keep it up!

Great job man !
This looks beautiful! Like imagination brought to life!
This is pretty sweet. You’re doing a great job. Do you mind if I make a long winded suggestion though? You seem to have the dungeons faithful to the original for the most part, which is great, but they’re far less puzzle oriented than later games. So when you place the one large puzzle in the room with the bow it feels rather out of place mechanically despite aesthetically being rather similar. I recommend you do more to make the puzzle rooms within the dungeons feel like aesthetically distinct areas within the dungeons. Make it abundantly clear that it’s now “puzzle time.” Maybe even throw in a few more per dungeon, that way the original layout and general design elements of the original can remain while the monotony is broken up more frequently. You can even use this as an opportunity to incorporate a general “theme” to the dungeons (make the water lowering puzzle from level 1 a recurring element in the dungeon that progressively gets more complex, for instance). Maybe this theme can even tie into the item itself where applicable. Like I said, you’re doing a great job. I’m not trying to tell you how to do your own passion project or anything, just a recommendation from a fellow fan.
*I normally DESPISE personal renditions of Zelda games. But you had me smiling from ear-to-ear when I saw the opening with the sword master. Then, the obstacle course to get the seord.* *VERY unique and well thought out. Excellent design and execution. Seems like a legit Nintendo title.*
