There were SO MANY lines direct from the campaign in this one: Percy and Vex's conversation about whether she looks like nobility, Percy titling her, pretty much ALL of her conversation with Saundor, and probably more! Seriously, these guys are SO GOOD at improv!

That is one of the many things I love about Critical Role. Unlike any other TV series you might see, the *entire* show is improv. I think the only pre-scripted lines are a few by Matt preparing his encounters; and Sam said near the end of Campaign One that he would try to come up with some of his silly Scanlan songs listening to the radio on the drive over to the game.

@@Thurrak I know so many people have said that. I don't think it would have worked as well here. In the campaign, Sondor wasn't a complete ass. He admitted his bigotry and claimed to try and fight it. He accepted Vex's title, and even had the decency to be a bit chagrined. But here, they've made him an unrepentant asshole. Her saying that to him wouldn't have had any impact on him. You saw how he immediately gave Percy the respect due to his station, because that's one thing he respects - nobility. But even nobility wasn't enough to gain Sondor's respect when it came to Vex. Also Vex wasn't ready to admit it yet. She is still trying to gain his approval. She still thinks she can do something to gain his love. "He is who he's always been." "I know, and so am I." That's why she doesn't go back to show him the bow, because she knows she has to get past her need for his approval before she can confront him.

This episode hit me in the feels, and it was this part of the campaign that I knew Percy and Vex were my favorite’s. This is a Perc’ahlia episode most definitely. I not only love the interactions between Percy & Vex, but I love how they referenced how Percy’s early signs of affection to Vex were to give her overpowered arrows. Someone also pointed out how after killing Saundor, Vex picks up Percy’s gift before she picks up the bow she thought she needed to get her dads love. Indicating that she valued Percy’s affection more than the bow her dad put so much stock in for her respect. There were a lot of great quotes from Vex/Laura during this part of the story, but what I loved about the “My heart is someone else’s” is because it’s when Vex stopped putting value in things like her father did. She got the bow because it didn’t matter if she got it or not, it was the people in her life who mattered more. I also loved that Percy giving Vex a title was to call out Syldor on his BS. Both in the campaign and the show, Talisine noticed how his title got him more respect from Syldor than his childrens accomplishments. He was telling Syldor that Percy didn’t think he deserve the respect of a noble because of how he treated his children, especially Vex. In the campaign Syldor was a bit more humbled, but I like it better here that Syldor tries to save face by requiring the bow as proof of Vex’s worth. But it’s knowing that Percy values her that gives her the strength to fight back against her dad.

100%. I loved that they didn't try to make him at all sympathetic here. Didn't show any sign of repentance. It's also why moving Vex's line about pulling his blood from her veins wouldn't have worked as well to his face. @@cryofpaine I think what hurts more about that line is I think Vex actually liked the elven culture, at least at first. I think that's partly why she tried so hard for her dad to be an "elf". "Percy is more comfortable now with his high status and how he`s using it." I think it's less that he's comfortable with it more that he has it back. I don't think he was ever uncomfortable being a De Rolo. In fact, I think it's the exact opposite. I think he loves being a De Rolo and he's very proud of the fact that he IS a De Rolo. Remember, up until Vox Machina killed Sylas and Delilah, Percy had lost his Societal Status, mostly because he avoided it as he felt, rightfully so, that it would put a target on his back. But Whitestone is his again and the murderers of his family are dead, so he no longer has to hide who he is.

@Coda Gaming @Myerz9 The difference here is in the portrayal of Syldor. Syldor in the Animated Series is quite different to Syldor in the Campaign. In the Campaign, Syldor actually accepted the title and was actually, slightly proud of Vex for having "earned" that title. In the Animated Series, Syldor didn't give a shit because he saw right through the fact that Percy made that shit up on the spot. Also, Syldor in the Campaign actually admitted how much of a bigot he was and that he was trying to do better whereas Syldor in the Animated Series is just a pure unrepentant asshole. I think the impact was heavy in both mediums, but because in the Campaign, the impact was on "the bad guy" whereas in the Animated Series, the impact was on "the hero," it felt more visceral in the Campaign because smacking the bad guy around always feels more visceral than giving the hero the inspiration they need. Personally, I think turning the "title" moment into more of a motivation and inspiration for Vex to outright say "FUCK YOU" to her Father hit a lot harder then Percy merely knocking Syldor down a peg. Also, it led to the great line from Vex of, "We will not fail! And that's more than I can say about you as a Father!" I don't know if she said that in the Campaign, but in the Animated Series it felt like that came out purely because the "title" moment was turned into motivation for Vex.

@@ForeverDegenerate It's only seeing through it if the title was actually meaningless; unfortunately for Syldor, Percy has a higher station than Syldor and the ability to elevate whomever he choses to nobility, as long as the charge has the skills and connections required, which, thanks to Percy, Vex does. The action sequences in this show are SO good! Not just because they're cool, but because at NO point is it ever unclear what's happening. So many action scenes in shows, animated AND live action, seem to sacrifice clarity for flash, and the story stops while fights are happening. But every action scene in this show is easy to follow AND furthers the story of each character in the scene. It doesn't feel like filler, none of the fight scenes could be removed without sacrificing story. The contrasts in this episode are beautiful. The twins' father who won't accept them because they are half elves, vs Wilhand who takes big ol boi Grog into his home like family. Percy telling Vex she's worth more than any noble, giving her a title because it matters to HER, not him or her father, and taking the time to make her a gift she would really appreciate (and with genuinely no expectation of anything in return), vs Sondor's "Poor, broken Vex'halia" and turning on a dime when she rejects him and his "terms". Also Vex with "how dare you speak to him like that" calling back to Vax saying the same thing to their father in her defense in the episode 3 flashback. Also, twig dick fighting Vex one on one, isolating her and destroying her weapons, with an entire bog that answers to his command, AND a vestige, knocking her down until she has nothing, and she still kicks his ass. Love that for her. Garmelie is ...a lot. Some threads are longer than others. The "boo bees" tshirt took me WAY too long to get *laughing facepalm* sorry for the ramble but I have FEELS.

Now that you've seen this episode, give this a listen! 😃 It contains no spoilers apart from this episode but, the rest of the musical will so, don't skip ahead. kzread.info/dash/bejne/hJOos9dyaca7fJc.html

If you want to learn Percy's full name, be advised that he NEVER pronounces the Klossowski part correctly. Like never. It's either Kowalski or Kolloski. I know it's because Taliesin had trouble rattling off the name, but it's my head canon that he's intentionally disrespecting that branch of his family.

I don't know if they'll go into Saundor's history, but in case they don't... I can't quite remember the circumstances, but either he was rejected or his lover betrayed him somehow. Either way, it embittered him and his pain corrupted the Shademurk, which didn't used to be covered in goo. He's a horrid manipulator though, and acts like an incel, so he gets no pity from me.

I am so sad and disappointed they never used Percy's most famous quote regarding the bog.

Don't worry too much about Garmelie's true form. It's an easter egg for us Mighty Nein/campaign 2 fans.

I mean...it happened in show at that point too. But when he said "you won't see Garmelie again" he meant that in the campaign because the next time we see him is his true weaselly face rather than just to go home. But...more Billy Boyd is appreciated.
