I CANNOT understate just how insane the fight with Kevdak was on the stream! I dont think ive seen so many 1s and 20s rolled in a single session. By the end of it the cast was jumping out of their seats, screaming their lungs out, pounding the table so hard the dice were bouncing! I'm so, so happy they captured that epicness so well!

The players were so nervous about the fight that they even brought Wil Wheaton in to touch all of Matt's stuff, who knows what would have happened had they not invoked Wil's curse.

20s: yes. 1s: not really that many. Wheaton's curse didn't really affect much.

That move by Vex was awesome, in the stream Matt didn't understand what she was trying to do and Grog was almost dead (low hit points), when she bamfed him out of the locket he did a reckless attack when he was falling and rolled at advantage...he rolled a natural 1 and a natural 20..If he hadn't rolled at advantage he would have missed Kevdak and probably died from the falling damage...it was epic!

It’s one of Matt’s best qualities as a DM in my opinion - he will certainly let them try. No matter how extreme or quirky their ideas get, he will more often than not find a way to at least give them a shot at something amazing. The speed with which he adapts is insane.

Matt figuring out what Laura meant and saying “Oh..? OH!!” was priceless
Vex shouting “Show them who you are!”was SUCH a great addition to the scene from campaign to animation! I never thought I’d be even MORE hyped about that Grog Drop. Fun fact: In the campaign, they gave the broom the name “Death from above”
The pokeball drop is one of the first of many times where Laura Bailey (Vex) brilliantly outsmarts the DM. Many more to come!

As much as I love that, there's a moment in campaign 3 that I like even more. The attack that she uses is triggered by thinking or saying the target's name. So despite the target being completely ready for and expecting an attack (which would normally trigger a reaction, and allow them to get the shot off first), she was able to get one over on the ready character AND Matt just by delivering an epic "______ _____, we're going to sunder you!" line.

Ah yes, the epic saga of Laura Bailey winning D&D XD
And now if you go back to ep 4 when Zahra gave Vex that amulet and Vex muses " Hm, I wonder who we could put in here?" you know why every C1 Critter lost their minds at Grog's little "Me?" in the background :D
I am so glad they kept "at dawn, we plan!" The Kill Box was an intense episode in the stream, they very nearly lost that battle. Grog got lucky with a nat 20 (with advantage, the other roll was a nat 1) on that last hit from the sky. Barely survived the fall. I'm so excited the animated version lived up to my high expectations!

This episode is perfect. The Killbox is one of my favorite episodes / sequences in any of their campaigns, and this adaptation went far beyond my wildest expectations 🤘🏻😈
I'm so glad to see Percy bust out Bad News
I unexpectedly cried so hard during the fight scene I nearly choked on a handful of walnuts. 😭😭😭
This season has been such a masterclass example of animated storytelling, but this episode... This episode was on a whole new level. So so good!
Julia called Percy "Fred" and I want to tell you that "Freddy" is Vax's nickname for Percy. Grog is Big Man and Pike is Pickle and Vex is Stubby and then he called Percy "Freddy" and everyone went "HUH?" "Isn't that his name? One of his names is Freddy?" Yeah.
With all the IP getting adapted into TV shows/films and just getting butchered these days, this episode proves that you can still have a properly faithful adaptation and it worked just as well in the episode as it did on the stream! Btw Scanlan saying 'haha and then I disguised us all as cows' actually happened in the stream. Someone was stealing cows so they made themselves look like bait, and it's one of the funniest moments on stream

The key is, as it always has been, get people who know and care about the original property. Not just the CR cast, but all the writers and animators and everyone else - you can tell they're all fans of the show, and that love and respect comes through in every frame. The worst adaptations are just money-grabs done by whoever the owner thinks has the biggest name at the time.

Titmouse seems to have some of the best storyboard and background artists working today. There's a tweet out there titled "The beauty of the Legend of Vox Machina" that is a compilation of some of the most beautiful scenes from both seasons. There is one tiny spoiler moment from episode 12, but otherwise, it's all been seen before.

The only flaw was Keyleth's tiger running animation. All it was the four legs moving in unison.
A man's strength doesn't come from brute force or intelligence. It's from your allies and the people you care about. Y'know, Sora once said; 'My friends are my power.'

7:08 The sheer excitement you 2 get is the best part.
Dice rolls determined most of this fight. And Matt Mercer, the DM supervising it, thought ahead of time that there'd be a very good chance that the group might lose permanently one or more members, due to the number and strength of those they faced, plus Kevdak. He'd prefer not to kill off his friends' favorite characters, but tactics and strategy only go so far. So good dice rolls at key points, and they survived. You could see his relief after Kevdak or Herd attacks rolled poorly. Such a close fight! I am so glad this turned out as amazing as it did -- the fight, and Grog's part of the story especially. Thanks again for great reactions and commentary.

Didn’t they ask will Wheaton to come in and touch all his dice beforehand as well?
The absolute best thing about this whole series is that it was played out this way instead of scripted. I wish I could play with these epic people.
Yup, they're on their way! I can't wait for you to see the next two episodes. One of my fav moments is coming up soon.
I agree, Whitestone being cloaked is a cool concept, and there's probably some other protections woven in against scrying and such, but it kind of falls apart when you scrutinize it. Even beside the dragons being able to simply see through the illusion, it's a fairly major city, there are records and people(Ripley!) that know of its location. But that doesn't dampen the fun, what an amazing episode.
@acrefray

However Truesight is actually quite a short range (relatively). Dragons aren't going to be flying a couple of hundred feet in the air... They'll be miles. Hiding a city from that range makes sense. It does fall apart as an idea in some ways, but that isn't one of them.

It would be interesting if there is any plausible explanation why Ripley would not want to raid Whitestone with Umbrasyl. Maybe to keep it for herself later?

This episode was so insanely good!
I laughed too loud when you called Percy Freddy, I don`t know if you know, but Vax calls him that sometimes :DD Scanlan`s reaction to Kaylie is so hilarious, I can`t, his -2 on wisdom is showing. Loved your thoughts as always. I`m amazed how you notice and then describe characters` dynamic. And how you care about all characters, not just Vox Machina, but how you`re happy to see Whitestone protected or Zanror`s change of attitude, this is precious. >Percy was genuinely happy, he won`t be when he sees Ripley riding on that dragon - ohhhhh yeaaaaaah..... I loved how you`ve referred to her as "variable", because her presence is something they really don`t know about.
Truesight, the spell that sees through illusions, has limited range. It is usually 120 feet.
Like Rhodey said to Tony Stark, the killbox is where you go to die. "FOR... STRONGJAAAAAAW!!!"
I’m never first!!! This was such a EPIC episode! I cried so many times. 😂

That orb that Ripley has is a Scrying Eye. Basically it allows her to scry on a person, item or location she's familiar with a certain number of times a day. It's how she knew that VM was hunting the Vestiges. In the campaign that was done a little differently, but it's not a major change.
There might be an album available... Critical Role has made music before, and I want to say there is a soundtrack available from the animated series.
23:09...You know. If you go back to the Ep. in which Ripley is first introduced as an ally of Umbracil. Well there is a hint there in that regard. Notice anything different about her?
10:07 and here we get another example of no mercy Percy 😂
I'm curious, for the guy that voices Grog, I believe he voice acted for Hulk in one of the animated movies or shows that the hulk is in, just think about it, Grog's and Hulk's rageful sceams/roars sounds so much the same, including the voices and dialog when just simply talking

Grog's insult towards Kevdak was a lot more.... brutal in the actual campaign. Some people will be offended by it so I'll leave it below "Tell me, Uncle... Do you also squat while you piss now?"
This is some of the most pumped up I've ever felt after a half hour of television.
Goku, Gohan, Vegeta, Piccolo...even Beerus and Kratos could learn a thing or two from Grog here. Those idiots find their strength in the wrong places
