The reason why Korra was crying was because when Tenzin they'll be following in her footsteps to keep peace and harmony in the world for her. It was essentially saying that the world didn't need her anymore to keep the balance and harmony and to her being the avatar was the most important thing in her life and now she didn't have a purpose

yea an that's why they usually reveal to the avatar they are the avatar when they are 16, because they need to become a normal person before becoming the Avatar (like Aang, he didn't want to be the avatar, because he was just a kid goofing around) and Korra found out she could bend more than one element too early and then she made that her obssession, she was Avatar before she could become herself, a person with a childhood and normal life, these shows opose each other, Aang was a normal person who needed to learn being the avatar, Korra is an avatar that needs to learn to be a human being.

Since Pli died, he no longer had anything attaching him to the world.

Korra out here traumatized. Those were some incredibly brutal deaths for the combustion bender and Water bender

I admire seeing Tenzin facing off against Zaheer and the Red Lotus. Even when the odds were against him, he took every beating like a champ and hung on to the bitter end. What a trooper!

I just wish it was more clear because many people I've noticed miss what happens. They don't realize she blew up because there's not much sound and visual on the impact itself so you'd have to understand by the implication of the light, smoke, and Zaheer's reaction. Still, some of us missed it apparently 😂

Jinora's ceremony at the end always brings me to tears. Like its the first time in hundreds of years that theyve had enough airbenders to properly do the ceremony and she looks so much like Aang and-- 😢

Yes, Aang would be over the moon if he was still alive to see not only the Airbenders coming back after Korra opening up the Spirit portals, but to also see his granddaughter becoming the youngest Airbending master once again in their history just like he did in his time. One could only imagine what the world would be like after the ending of this show. My best guess is that after another 100 years have passed, the new Avatar would be one from the Earth Kingdom and from here, the Air Nomads have truly returned after being nearly extinct for 2 centuries and they have become a force that has never been seen before. At long last, the 4 elements are finally in balance. 🌊🪨🔥🌪

That moment at the end with Korra crying, that was the moment this season became my favourite in the entire Avatar franchise, this show is just SO fantastic. This is a long lingering effect, she doesn't just bounce back from this by the next episode.

The intriguing aspect of the Zaheer vs Tenzin encounter is that, prior to Combustion Lady intervening to incapacitate Tenzin, Zaheer didn't to land a single blow on him. In fact, Tenzin managed to knock over Zaheer multiple times, highlighting the contrast between an airbending savant employing a distinctive style and a seasoned Airbending master.

istg that final sequence with Jinora revealing her Tattoos and Korra in a wheelchair never fails to make me emotional. Seeing both the highest high and the lowest low both of them have in the same moment just hits me really hard

I love how the _goddamn lavabender_ is the most _chill_ member of Zaheer's little terrorist group. ALSO- here's a scary thought. Lavabenders can basically wipe their _ass_ with metalbenders. Their whole THING is relying on the small bits of earth-impurities in metal, in order to move and manipulate it. All he has to do, for example, _is lavabend the metal we see every single metalbender wearing,_ and BOOM- fight over.

@Hsple0 I kinda wish they expanded on it. Like if Lava Bending is a result of having both Firebending and Earthbending parents. Since the only 2 non avatar Lava benders was Bolin and Gazan. But they never went into it and the only one we know had both parents was Bolin.

God damn, I forgot how much greatness there is in this batch of episodes. You got Tenzin’s best fight, Kai’s temporary sacrifice, Bolin unlocking lava bending, the most metal death, the unfortunate destruction of the Northern Air Temple, Zaheer unlocking flight, Korra’s final battle w/ Zaheer, and the final Airbender ceremony!

P’li got her head encased as she fired and blew herself up and Zaheer lost his earthly tether. The one thing keeping his spirit down with attachment and love is now gone and he just thought “Yea I can probably fly now.”

Whether he flew or fell, I’m pretty sure he didn’t care right at that moment.

Fun fact: this is the 100th episode of the Avatar franchise, and that couldn't be more fitting with how awesome this episode is. I also consider it the darkest and most bone-chilling episode in all of Avatar. I honestly find it more unsettling than The Puppetmaster from the previous show

Tenzin's "Yes I do..." As he stares directly at the viewer in hardened determination against Zaheer, sent chills down my spine the first time. And YESSSS finally the reveal for Bolin being a lavabender!!! It's so cool how he discovered it, he didn't know he could. He just thru himself to the incoming lava hoping it would work. He was willing to sacrifice himself. These 3 episodes I don't know how you can not watch back to back. It was so emotional and hit so hard. The final scene with Korra crying, I was broken after that. Can't wait for next season! Also a banger!

That last shot of Korra shedding a tear never fails to make me cry😭

7:30 I need a side story about Zuko traveling the spirit world just to see Iroh again 🙏 32:15 I love how Meelo jumping on Korra’s lap is enough to make her smile even through being as down as she is here. The kids have such pure happiness to them, it’s infectious. ☺️

32:59 This broke me when I originally watched it and it broke me again today... I can definitely say this is my favorite moment of Avatar as a whole. Also loved how Tenzin showed Zaheer why he is an airbender master before getting ganged up on a 4v1, and he never gave up, god I love this series so much

The final scene of this episode is probably my favourite moment in avatar. The resurrection of a culture the fire nation and Zaheer tried to kill, Jinora carrying out the legacy of Aang, it just never stops being emotional

Tbh a theory that I always had after seeing episode 12 for the first time was that the reason Bolin is able to lava bend is because his father was from the earth kingdom and his mother was from the fire nation. Obviously this isn't confirmed, but that has always been a little theory of mine since it'd make sense a bit due to lava bending essentially being a mix between both earth bending and fire bending. Also, if anyone is curious as to what the poison is that was used on Korra, it's actually Mercury. It's both a liquid and a metal that is highly toxic to people. Plus one look at the poison and an image of Mercury and you'll quickly see the similarity.

i love how what they add to the story just makes sense- like 20:00 Zaheer flying makes sense, because he let go of what held him to the earth, i think what we also learned from Aang when he wanted to enter the avater state whenever- his partner, and Bolin bending Lava due to maybe more of a connection from his parents being fire and earth benders

All these episodes were crazy but the ending was just somber. Seeing that tear come from Korra was just heartbreaking.

This is my favorite Legend of Korra book, not only because of the number of deaths (showing how serious the plot can be) but because of the more adult plot of the villains, especially Zaheer, the return of the airbender, the addition of the Beifong family and this bittersweet ending for Korra!

You know after rewatching this series where Bolin lavabend I realized that his dad was an earthbender and his mom was a firebender so maybe that’s why they gave him lavabending!

Maybe in order to lavabend you have to be an earthbender with a little of firebender in there. Maybe that's why the only people who could lavabend before the nations united under Aangs lead were avatars.

I find it very funny that Zaheer, who doesn't believe in nations was captured by the entire air nation working together. The thing with the Avatar state is that Korra has actually mastered it. Aang didn't master it until after he refused to kill Ozai. Until then the Avatar state mastered him. Ozai wasn't fighting Aang he was fighting the Avatar an entire force of nature. We see Aang later (and Kyoshi and Roku) use the Avatar state more seoevlctivly just a short burst of power to accomplish incredible feats because staying in the Avatar state is perilous if you die in the Avatar state you die in real life. Korra mostly tires to use short bursts of Avatar state and even tried to force herself out of it here so she could die as a human and protect Raava.

The fact that there are people who tell others not to even watch Korra bc its so bad... lmao like bro this season alone is worth the full watch

Yeah Avatar lore time: If you remember Wan’s story the Air benders can fly that could ALL fly then and had different tattoos. It’s because they Adopted domesticating sky bison that their Tatios changed because they could now longer fly. They were now BOUND to the earth by a earthly possession. Which is why Zaheer is the only air bender who can’t fly without a glider currently.

Not trueee. They were not flying. When Zaheer flies there is not air around, when the one on the past did it they had air under their feet, and the last one using the technique was not freely flying, he was just skying in the air. Even Wan used the technique. And air bison are not the reason, they had families and relationships. You did not notice the children?

You blur the lines so much with the and they I have no idea who your referring to and when. And us seeing the air has nothing to do with it because when we see Anng use a glider we don’t see the wind he’s bending into it. Lastly It was the reason because they had not adopted sky bison yet in the past and a Family or even a friend is not a “Earthly Possession” Lastly wan using the move isn’t the same a someone like monk Gyatso using it because it was back then on top of what he did was specifically stated as levitating not flying like Zaheer does. Even anng can fly however he needs to be in an air sphere or wind tunnel to do so. Why do you think we never see him fly without it or his glider?

Zaheer actually kinda knew he could fly ..Because in order to fly ... you'd have to let go of all your earthly attachments. The last attachment for him was Pi Li.... that's why they focused on both of them having an intimate moment before that scene went down. After she died...Zaheer no longer had any earthly attachments....so if the Guru was right...he was sure he would fly. The only doubt would've been whther the "legend" was true or not.

Zaheer flew because P'li was his earthly tether. When she died he had no attachments left. Flying is the highest airbending ability and why Zaheer kept referencing Guru Laghima as he was the only other airbender to achieve flight. So Tenzin can never achieve because of his family and duties to Republic City. Aang, Korra and all the other Avatars can't either because their duty is to the world first and foremost.

That ending always never fails to stir my emotions.

Season 3 is a masterpiece IMO. On the level of the original series for sure but definitely more brutal.

It seems like you didn't quite understand the flying. Flying wasn't a special power of Airbenders, like lightning, metal, or lavabending. It's a refined skill that can only be obtained by letting go of all earthly attachments, like Zaheer mentioned. Zaheer already had let go of all attachments, but P'Li was one he couldn't let go, until she was taken from him, freeing him from his last attachment.

What a way to end a season. With everyone else dead Zaheer is now the only main Red Lotus member alive. Jinora has also really come into her own and more than earned her tattoos. Shout-out to Tenzin as well for not only fighting but surviving the Red Lotus assault. Finally it's hard not to feel bad for Korra here after what she went through in these 3 episodes, though shout-out to Asami for helping her get ready for Jinora's ceremony since Korra (being wheelchair bound) was in no position to do so alone. Fun facts (sources: the Avatar wiki & episode commentary tracks): *Grandma Yin loves royalty so much that she will easily ignore any personality flaws in favor of their royal status. *The Ultimatum is Kya's last speaking role & Iroh's last appearance in the series. She obviously gets more in the comics but as far as tv is concerned that's it. *The Ultimatum is the first time two airbenders are seen fighting each other and is also the first time Meelo is seen flying on a glider by himself. *Writer Katie Mattila improvised Yin's line of saying she will take a nap during a temporary audio recording session. *Compared to the more colorful backgrounds in the Book Two finale, the color palette of the Northern Air Temple was intentionally greyer to complement the foreboding mood of the Book Three finale. *Both known combustionbenders, Combustion Man and P'Li, were killed by a point-blank explosion caused by their own powers. *When the network objected to how a chained Korra's limbs formed an "X"-shape while she was suspended in the air, resembling a diagonal cross, Konietzko brought up how Spongebob Squarepants was similarly chained in one of his series' episodes. *Enter The Void is the first time the Red Lotus' insignia is shown. *Zaheer saying he'd let go of earthly attachments is in reference to the thought chakra, the one Aang couldn't unlock due to his love for Katara. *In Venom of the Red Lotus, Korra's outfit at the end is similar to the one she wore at the party Tarrlok held for her in The Voice in the Night. *The closeup shot of Korra's face as she hallucinates her fallen enemies telling her to "let go" originally had her irises visibly shaking; this was changed after Nickelodeon executives and members of the production crew found the moment too disturbing. *Venom of the Read Lotus is the series 100th episode. *Korra vs. Zaheer has many similar elements to the Battle of Wulong Forest (Aang vs. Ozai), such as it being in an Earth Kingdom field of rock columns which were eventually used for offensive maneuvers & both combatants using Fire or Airbending to fly. *Kya tried but had little success in healing a poisoned Korra. *Series composer Jeremy Zuckerman wanted there not to be music during Korra and Asami's scene on Air Temple Island in order to reflect the "heavy quiet" of the tragedy and violence the former went through. *The theme "Service and Sacrifice" that plays during Jinora's anointment ceremony uses elements of the theme "Jinora's Light", which played during "Light in the Dark" when Jinora saved Korra from UnaVaatu. Ok these last few episodes had no right being as well made as they were. Like hands down outta the seasons in Korra, this one was the best one. With Bolin lavabending, I remember watching it for the first time as a kid with my sister and we both got really excited cause while I didn’t have the biggest idea on what was happening (child brain am I right?), I still was excited for our homie

Most people feel/fear they are not mentally very resilient, and think that they wouldn't be able to handle such an extreme change in their lifelike that, specially when you're aware how ableist society is, socially and structurally.

Seeing Korra in a wheelchair traumatized like that and crying at the end always breaks me Her face are so slender and her eyes are so empty I think everyone who has gone through physical trauma that gained mental trauma and PTSD can relate heavily to Korra in these last couple of minutes The show-writers did it so well and presented her struggle so accurately it's difficult to watch, but what an amazing representation

Peak Avatar this is! The last 3 episodes were just incredible. This whole season was just amazing

Zaheer being able to fly is related to the lore of the airbenders. The first airbenders could fly using their abilities, but it required to let go of all earthly attachments. The airbenders lost this abilities when they bonded with the bison and thus, formed an earthly attachment. Zaheer is able to fly after P'li, his lover dies, and he truly has nothing earthly holding him to this world any longer. It's a really cool detail.

That Cliffhanger of Korra's single tear had me desperate for Season 4 to release 😅 It was Brutal!

The ending of this season will always be both beautiful and painful. So bittersweet. You get the new birth of the air nation and Jinora's tattoo, and then you get the physically and mentally tormented Korra, the powerful figure in the avatar universe, almost defeated and tired of it all.

Umpopular opinion: Lavabend is way terrifying than bloodbend Its the most OP bend in all avatar universe. In a realistic way theres not scape from a lava attack

I got it already and love it. It's honestly a shame tho that her 2nd skin is just Raava induced rather than her lesbian look from Season 4. I love me that Season 4 Korra.

Zaheer unlocking flying is similar to the time Aang trained to release the Avatar State. Each had to open all of the Chakras, including both love and letting go of worldly attachments. Both couldn't make a sacrifice at first, but, for Zaheer, he embraced enlightenment when his love, his only attachment, was killed.

Your Meelo being Zaheer theory is pretty funny, that would be too great.

The fight at the air temple and Korra vs Zaheer are two of my favourite fights this franchise has ever given us. This season has, in terms of animation and choreography, the best fights in the entire two shows and several comics.

For reference. Bolin has been wearing that sock since they left The Metal Clan. meaning it was there during their overnight stake out. It was there when he got soaked fighting the water chick during the stake out. It was on him the whole time they were kidnapped and held hostage in Ba Sing Se. It was there after they escaped and traveled into the desert to find Korra. Plus when they went to the "Exchange" in the air temple and the whole place got demolished by Lava so it was covered in sweat after being on his foot for days plus being soaked in the water when fighting the water chick, and then wore it in the fight against Gazan which he definitely got sweaty during that. And then he shoved that same sock into Zaheers mouth. NOBODY not even Zaheer deserves that kind of punishment.

The way the hurricane catches zaheer off guard will ALWAYS be my favorite part of the finale..he breaks his grip and has to literally shift his stance which breaks the Airbending bubble and allows the wind to break/pull it away. But it’s the way they animated it to emphasize he WAS caught off guard and couldn’t just focus on korra.

Jinora's ceremony is probably my favorite moment in the series. It's literally punching Korra in the gut after her harrowing fight against the Red Lotus, seeing the visage of Aang so clearly in his granddaughter right at her lowest point, when she has been left beaten down and worn down by both the poison and her experiences, and fully doubtful in her own existence and capabilities as the avatar. Also the Zaheer vs Korra fight is just pure fanservice, reusing the setting of Aang and Ozai's fight over a canyon of rock columns, but switching the flier and fire-jetter roles.

I am SO GLAD you guys pause it when you discuss!! Seriously the worst thing about reactors reacting is them missing the next cool thing because they’re thinking of the last cool thing. There bhave been SOOO many times where Ive been worried you will miss something but still wanting to hear your discussion and then Ive realized you paused it and thank goodness!!!

I think Bolin is a lavabender, because he was probably "born" with a talent. Mako and Bolin's parents details: Their father was an earthbender And their mother was a firebender Think you get a lot of rebender if you mix them up (😏)

Killing the Earth Queen was the most ingenious move by these writers. It immediately put the option on the table that people could die. So every fight with Tenzin, Bumi, Kya, Kai, Korra's dad, it was 10x more stressful

Tenzin would've won against Zaheer if combustion women and the others didn't jump in. Well, atleast he gave him one hell of a fight.

(At 7:29) sad part about this series is… I don't think we ever got to see a reunion between "old" Zuko and his uncle Iroh.

And ya know whats crazy? It actually ended like this on tv withoit a season 4 planned to air. Season 4 premiered on Nickelodeons crappy website streaming service with little to no advertising. So a for a lot of people book 3 was just how it ended until Eventually book 4 got to tv.

With these episodes and how it all goes down it out right infuriates me that reactors have been bullied off watching Korra cuz they were enjoying it. One of my favorite reactors to Avatar only watched season 1 of Korra cuz other 'fans' of avatar straight up harassed her for watching it cuz they thought Korra was the worst thing ever.

It really hits hard how much Korra is going through at the end of season 3. She was raised on the stories of Aang and built up to be this powerful figure, and every season more and more of herself was taken away. All the villains telling her she's no longer needed, and that she's worthless. Then, once she's crippled and at her lowest, Tenzin tells her that she really is no longer needed and that the air nomads can take over. She's literally lost everything and can only sit there and cry.

this really the first time we see a pure air bender in a real fight, before it was avatars, tenzin fending off three people of different elements without trying to kill them and they still needed that much power to take him down? air is no weak element

And now we know why Bolin couldn't metalbend earlier: Madlad's a lavabender. The action and fight sequences in these 3 episodes are top notch. And the final scenes of Jinora's promotion as an Airbending Master and Korra's tears...wow.

Zaheer was running away from Tenzin because Tenzin would beat Zaheer in a straight fight. Zaheer was buying time to get his team in play
