The difference between Trails and every other game: you don't refer to the next arc, the Calvard arc, as a game you're going to play, you refer to it as a place you're going to visit. Reverie might have over 50 playable characters, but other than the three new characters in C's route, I know so much about every single one of them. This game isn't like Chrono Cross, or other JRPGs with massive casts, where I don't know any of these characters and it seems like the game is just giving more for the sake of it. Reverie has a large cast because I want to spend more time with each of them. I'll never forget, for example, my favorite mission in Cold Steel 3: rescuing that final Calvardian agent in the catacombs below Heimdallr. For one brief second, I could have Tita, Agate, and Olivier in my party again, and it was a mini-reunion of Sky. Trails does these moments better than anyone; it gives fans the moments we want.

Reverie is my absolute favorite Trails game!

I am so hyped i literally dreamt about playing this. been a trails fan since i stumbled into FC in 2015

It has been an amazing journey and is still continuing. I started Trails in the Sky 1 back in 2016 and up until now I've played the 9 games... waiting for Reverie release this friday.

As always, great review, Alex! I'm soooo far behind on this series. I'm still working my way through Trails to Azure in between other games. I guess the main benefit of this is I won't be hitting the "waiting for Kuro" drought any time soon!

Waiting two years for Cold Steel IV was hell. I'm glad you won't have to go through that, but eventually you'll be caught up and having to wait. These games take FOREVER to get localized.

I've been dying for Reverie since I finished Azure! I seriously can't wait to get my hands on this one! I would say it's my most anticipated game of the year, but I mean, Azure was pretty damn high on that list too 😅 But yeah, Friday can't arrive soon enough!

Talk about amazing timing on the crossbell games coming out. I can't wait to have the Crossbell gang back together. I just need to beat Cold Steel 3 and 4 first.

Reverie to me isn’t just a temporary send off to the old casts, and introducing the new ones. It also setting a lot of foreshadowing for future arcs. I can already sense that a few characters will make a “more than just cameo” appearance installments just from the game build up

Can't wait to get this game

I pre-ordered my copy of Reverie earlier this year, but when I get it I'm not going to play it because I need to play Trails of Cold Steel 4, Zero, and Azure to have a full comprehensive of the story before tackling Reverie. I guess my copy of every is going to be unopened for quite some time 😅

Reverie Best JRPG games for me.. i played ff, dragonquest etc.. the plot,character progression just something that keep me playing

Trails into Reverie pretty much brings together the Crossbell and Erebonian arcs before Kuro takes us into Calvard Why would anyone ever ask if this is a good starting point and is the question really that common?

Yes very much.. What's not to enjoy at ff16 it has a game of thrones viibe and torgal.. And ifrit finally is a bad ass.. 10/10 for GOTY well till reverie comes out

I think it would be better to call it Cold Steel the 5th (and Crossbell the 3rd). Anyway, the game was originally meant to be a DLC epilogue to Cold Steel IV, but it grew a lot in scope (as a lot of trails games do).

So starting fresh with the series where do I start based on games that will play on ps5 , which order do I play them in

A large roster u say dynasty warriors said hold my beer I've been playing that series for 20 years and were at like 100 characters and thats not even considering the warriors orochi series which adds the samurai warriors cast and more so large rosters r not a deterrent I've trained well 😊😊😊😊😂

Really looking forward to the reset in the Trails series. There’s like 10+ games that are mandatory to play in order to play the new games. I Played TOCS 1-4 & I’m not going back & playing the others. Already too many games to play as it is. I’ll still play Reverie & I’m okay with having a different perspective & perhaps miss some character growth.

I love this series, but I can't play it, I want to upgrade to the PS5 version, I bought the PS4 version and the box says I can upgrade to PS5, but I'm having complications finding how to do so, can anyone help or give me some form of answer? I would greatly appreciate it

Cold Steel 4 roster isn't a problem, there's like 70% of them that are all geared up, and setup. idk about reverie tho

A good part of them are locked gear and quartz anyway and for the most part, you don't actually have all that much freedom in using them. Though their builds are often... questionable.

In order to get the most out of Reverie, knowledge of the story throughout the entire of the series is key. But as I mentioned, there are story summaries in the game if you haven't played Sky. You can just read the summaries and go from there!

actually you can play any trails series as your starting point in the series.. like for me i started in cold steel 3... finishes the game without understding fully why someone just pop up from nowhere... after i finished the game i play part 1 and now im beggining to put the pieces of the puzzle together...

@@BacklogBattle its not overwhelming for me... the game mechanics is simple to begin with theres not too much going on in that dept.. story wise you just started in some point in story.. i sugest just play the game.. thats what i did.. rean is a instructor already?? ok continue... here comes laura that was hinted in the story as his classmate??? ok continue... this is what i did on cold steel 3... after i beat the game i didnt olay the 4th... i play 1 and understand whats going on and it doesnt ruin my experience.. its like i just flash back in time... what i mean is that players doesnt need to be intimidated to start somewhere... anywhere will do...
