The thing about the cover is that that woman was shown in TOCS 4 extra ending. I'm trying not to spoil, but if you are watching this video and didnt play any of the games, the chance is now, all the games are on sale on steam.

Estelle already had sky the 3rd as an epilogue. It makes no sense for her to be the 3rd protagonist in reverie.

Kevin is the protag in 3rd though, and estelle is the LAST of the fc/sc cast you unlock in it to boot. I mean I get what you are saying but most trails fan think Estelle is still Bestelle, so in a sheer unabashed fanservice game, its weird they shafted her in terms of pandering in the way where she never get to re-protag again yet despite being around the longest

@@Ghalion666 I mean. The Sky cast had their epilogue with Sky the 3rd. Reverie is basically the Sky the 3rd of the Crossbell/Erebonia cast. Shoehorning Estelle into Reverie makes no sense since her character arc is basically finished since the chapter 6 of Sky SC. Some people also complain that Estelle, Loyd and Rean are not in Kuro 1&2 . I think it's a good thing. They now all had a good send off. Time to move on !

@@albundy1485 I'm not trying to argue against your point in the sense that I disagree with it personally. I'm just saying there ARE some arguments to be made against it, and can see why an emotionally invested person would disagree. I personally loved Seeing estelle again in CS4, and I hope I get to have her in some future games as well, maybe even more of a feature in one of them. But I'm also not upset that she isn't in more of them. I'm pretty happy with things the way they are, especially since Falcom is pretty good at making new characters I really care about, even the side ones. I'm obsessed with Beryl for example (not in a creepy way, but I legit want to know what her deal is more than I care about who the grandmaster is for example). But yeah I think things are fine the way they are now, but I think people are perfectly in their right to voice their opinion of 'we want estelle!' or whatever.

Erick, some may get spoiled with some scenes in here that show the identity of someone being kept as a secret in the game. It's easy to figure out once you see it once or twice, and might not make it as enjoyable as it should be for the others.

He's said in prior videos he doesn't even read the comment sections of his videos - so I doubt he'll even see this response. He probably doesn't care either - he's made that pretty clear - as long as the subs and clicks go up, I think that's all he wants.

So, if I wanted to get into the series, can I start at any starting part of the trilogy/series or should I go from beginning to end. Also, are there any locked behind being Japan only or console locked. I have: Switch, Steam and in the future, PS5. Switch most preferable. I also do not own a PS Vita if they are on it, so not much I can do there. Thanks for whatever info, very curious about these series and want to get into the series.

Rn steam is the best place to play trails cause all trails game are available on steam in english except kuro no kiseki. For kuro no kiseki, you can actually play it in english, but you need to get the english patch. For play order, you cant go wrong for starting from sky cause its the intended order from developer, but you can play from cold steel but only until cold steel 2. After CS 2, you need to go back to sky

Currently kicking myself since I ignored Trails in the Sky years ago. I'll take my time with the series, but its going to take a while for me to play Reverie.

Final chapter? Thought they had already anounced a arc after this set in the Calvard republic?

On the topic of the music, this game was actually the first one the new composer Koguchi worked on and he has some great tracks for it (Lapis, Like a Whirlwind, Zero Encounter) he has some even better work in Kuro

I hope to get into this one day. This series has the story and world to rival the MCU since I feel it’s similar to it with Sky being Phase one, Zero/Azure Phase 2, Cold Steel Phase 3, and Reverie and the sequel being Infinity War and Endgame

These games are amazing. Beat all 4 CS and then finally beat Zero and Azure. Cant wait to beat this one. ❤

Do you mean talking to all the npc townspeople after every event? If so azure is the worst game in the series for thst imo. Its the only one I couldnt be bothered to do it with halfway thru. I just gave up and spoke to my fave's (the hayworthe, bond/sunita's family, the bracer guild, etc). Cold steel 1 on the other hand has the best imo. The school setting combined with classmates you recognize at a glance before even talking to them really helps

Eh, understandable, the style of narrative of the Trails series isn't everyone's cup of tea, and if you find Azure heavy on text, it's because you didn't play Cold Steel IV... For me the pacing is great (although even I think they could "get to the point" in some parts...) but I'm full aware to who I recommend this series.

The cover of the game was just bait to get it. She actually appears on a very important hidden scene in CS4 (if you play the CS4 good ending a secondtime I think the scene happens... very obtuse way of doing it...). Her scenes on Reverie do actually hint towards future events. The story centers at first on Lloyd, but later on it goes more towards Rean, and by the end it's showing a lot of things that would be relevant for the Calvard Arc. Regarding Estelle, I think it's said on some interview that she was considered as a 3rd main protagonist, but they couldn't do her story justice, and C was added. So, I actually prefer that she wasn't wasted on some weird plot that didn't make sense.

I don't know having Estelle instead of C coulda of somewhat worked if you factor in she, Joshua and Renne could have easily had some memorable moments with the child assassin characters, with Renne in particular going full circle and could of closed her character growth here instead of in Calvard.

I had no idea you get to play as Estelle!!! That’s awesome we get to play and see her and others in the new engine! I need to hurry up and finish Cold Steel 3 & 4! (I took a break after I beat Azure & Zero about 2 years ago)

Kinda the same with me. I started Cold Steel 1 &2 in 2019-2020. Started 3 in 2021 but dealt with personal life problems. It is now 2023 gotta start finishing 3 and go onto 4 but then I got to play the Crossbell ones too b4 I even get to Reverie. Oohh weeee it's gonna be a long while

I’d be damn curious to see someone play this as their first Trails game, just to see how absolutely and completely lost they are. This game gives no craps about non-fans. Lol

Picked this up on Switch... I always like getting all those free perks and items for having completed the other games and save files on Switch...

Loved the gameplay, it is the best part of this game by a mile. The fanservice is great, thou there are some characters i see missing, which i find to be way more integral to all the games as a whole, then some of those we got. The story i was not to keen on, i think it feels very rushed, and there are some "plot twists" that just didnt land for me at all. Heavy spoilers ahead: It really does feel like they threw in all the big esoteric and/or arcane words they could get into a huge mix. We got Septium/spirit veins(which arent actually understood or explained), AI being created trough magic, technology and spiritualism, we got mindcontrol, we got curses, we got alternate dimensions, casuality and fate, old concepts mixed with new and all of it in one big bag of crazy and i do not think they landed everything here. The Garcia, Constelation and Heiyuu being evil at first supporting the antogonist, then to swap sides did not feel earned at all. The Babel tower having its control panel also being the place where energy/lightning is creatd made no sense at all, except for making a plot device that would give you the escape scene and also the anime of saving Rufus (by going WAAAAAY over the lightning canon shot's deadline of firing). Lapis, C, Swin and Nadia's part of the story felt extremely rushed and was counting on us to "like them, because the games characters told us to", to be invested in them. They needed a tad more time to simmer.(Dont get me wrong, i think i would really liked Lapis more, if i had gotten more of her. more or less like how Sky 3rd fleshed out Kevin levels of time and energy) But one thing i find a huge crime, is not having Kloe as a playable character, ATLEAST in the Reverie Corridor. What the heck? We can get Victor, Toval, McBurn, Elise and Lechter, but not Kloe? I would have been fine with either going for the alter Rean storyline or the Ai storyline. but they needed to pick either, mixing them up just made it more confusing then it needed to be, and also it felt like it toke away from the overall game. Personally, i would have loved to have Lapis as the protag, being a subsection or part of Elysium that is the "human" side of it, and wants to redeem and help Elysium understand, acknowledge and respect humankind as a whole, and Elysium basically going full haywire in its mission to sheperd Zemuria trough use of robot clones to gain influence and power. That way it would be better explained that the Reverie corridor is a part of Elysium that Lapis controls and we use to slowly go trough to get to Elysium, while using the outside world where we need to get ahold of the rogue robots send by Elysium.

I'll be getting this game for my birthday which is in a couple of days. It looks really cool and I really like the Trails games.

about why Estelle and Sky gang are not the MC of the third route....Kondo said in one of his interview that since the story of sky is already done, that' why they choose C to tie the loose ends of this West Zemuria giant story arc, I think it's pretty reasonable...

This game is absolutely made for the fans. I was you have to play AT MINIMUM the six preceding games to understand the story! Damn, I wish they could release all of those on current consoles.

To be fair, all 6 of those preceding games (Zero, Azure, and Cold Steel 1-4) are available on PS4, and all but CS 1&2 are available on Switch. While the Sky Trilogy is still trapped on PC and PSP/Vita, and is very important to the overall story and world, those games are the least important to understanding Reverie.

Brother, if the person in the cover is who I think she is, she's one of the most important characters in the whole series. Glad she's on the cover.

You've got McBurn and Aurelia as playable characters in this game. Can we someday get a trails game with playable Loewe? That's part of my fanservice holy grail: playable Loewe, playable Arianrhod, and playable Campanella. The crown jewel on that holy grail would be playable Grandmaster.

I feel like the only way to properly give us a playable Loewe is via a Remake of Trails in the Sky which i heard they would like to do. After Joshua defeats him in SC and you have to traverse the rest of the final dungeon to get to Weissman they can probably adjust it there and let us use him up to that scene or let us use him in the final fight and then he passes away like he should. You'd still get the same results with a playable Loewe, even if it's for a small moment.

i dont even know whats going on anymore, my last kiseki is CS3 lmao.

This game came out? I saw like zero marketing or coverage of it from any of my youtubers....maybe i wasnt paying attention lol

I finally got around to playing thru the first Cold Steel and Trails in the Sky arcs and loved them both, but man this series is daunting. lol To catch up to this game, I have to play at least 7 more 60+ hour JRPGs with a LOT of dialogue and not the most exciting gameplay. I will say the story telling, character development, and world building are pretty top tier, but these games are bit of a slog and very slow paced so I can only really play one to two at a time before needing a long break. By the time I catch up to Reverie, there are going to be another 7 games to play and sometimes that makes me wonder if I just skip this series. I can see that its good, but do I really need to play every JRPG? I think I have hit a point where are just too many games to play and not enough time for them all. I don't care for that feeling. lol

regarding the grandmaster screen time, im fine with the bait erick... disappointed true... but more than anything, we finally got to see how she looks like, her voice, a bit of her atmosphere.... and in just halfway through the TRAILS SERIES!!! that is awesome... because, it reminds me of Detective conan they kept the identity of the B.O Boss hidden all these years... and when they drop his name almost late in the game, it turns out very underwhelming... just some random guy....

I realise it's very early on into the game, but can we not do early plot exposition analysis in reviews? Come on, guys. That's the reason why I don't like watching reviews. I'm excited for Reverie, but I'm not excited to hear about "what the hell?" things that happen in the first 30 minutes.

i love the trails series much better as final fantasy and more love inside charackters and for the story

I agree. The sky arc is my very favorite, and I felt short changed that they're the ONE crew that doesn't get their own specific POV in the game. Bummer, but at least many of the favorites from that arc are playable as party members. I'll take what I can get, lol.

But for my money, I'd prefer more Sky-love than CS cast (who had a whopping 4 games - most of which were huge) or even the new crew, even though they were enjoyable. It's a bias thing and I don't pretend otherwise, but Sky's my favorite cast and my favorite arc. I'd have appreciated more love for them in rounding this all out - that's all I'm saying.

Man, I honestly agree almost with everything you said. Combat was brought to perfection after the 9 games and it was the peak of trails turn based combat. Since Kuro is utilising different combat now, we can consider this really the best form of first part of Trails saga. I feel like this game is closing arc mainly for Crossbell guys. For Rean it feels more like a time for little break before he storms into Calvard again, especially since he has unfinished business with Shizuna. Sky guys... I feel like they had their closure in Sky alone and will reappear in the future to help Renne in Calvard. And yeah Kevin? Who the hell is Kevin right. Nobody knows Kevin, even developers forgot him. Btw yeah, the cover is really strange. The character is indeed basically the pivot point of whole series and will be in my opinion its at the center of its end too, but in Reverie there was no need to present her. Cover with Lloyd, Rean and Estelle would be the best (Yeah, Estelle and Liberl gang should have their own route wtf, developers). Anyway I loved the game. My only complaint is ironically one of its strong points. I got character overdosed. I played Trails in order, all of them, 100 % them including NPCs and their stories but hell, I was kinda overwhelmed with so many playable characters sometimes. Still it was 9/10 game for me.

I’d argue this game is incredibly important for Rean, since Reverie is where Rean’s struggle with his self loathing and sacrificial nature, his greatest internal conflicts, are actually properly resolved. He’s not just here taking a little break at all. He has more of a character arc here than anyone that isn’t a part of C’s group. I’d argue that the SSS themselves are overshadowed in a game that should seem like theirs. While it does work as a send off for them as a whole… I really wish they were given more to do in Crossbell’s big finale.

@@Zakemaster No, I probably wrote it badly but what I meant by that part is what comes next for characters from Reverie. For SSS it seems like long closure for now since they have no reason to go to Calvard now. But Rean (as we know from Reverie story about his vacation and search of master) has now after events of Reverie a little break where he prepares to enter the stage again as side character to resolve his story with Shizuna and master (if he finds him). So I definitely did not mean that his arc in Reverie was not important, it was not even a part I meant. I hope this makes it more clear (Since I definitely agree with what you wrote about his story in Reverie).

I love the series but I long for a more concentrated cast and story 😅

I haven't played yet but I would have much rather Estelle as one arc than Rean. I'm not even a Rean hater, but we've had Rean-tastic adventures the last 4 games and it would have been nice to switch it up a bit. I'm pumped you liked the music, because a lot of people were saying it was a let down.

At least Estelle has a second-best butt in this game just behind Noel 🤤

Reverie may be my 5th favorite Trails game. I must say that they FINALLY did something decent with Rean's character (which it was kinda mediocre on Cold Steel arc) but also the new main plot was much more interesting than NEWC7 or even C7! Of course... there is a lot of Fanservice aaas you can see on that Laura with her bikini's outfit. Still, my favorite optional outfit may be the marriage dress. For those who loved Cold Steel: this game takes it to a better level. For the ones who loves the series as a whole: This game may not be the best Trails game or whatever, but having the chance to see your favorite characters on the franchise interacting on a canonical game while being connected to the main conflict on this game.. you could have a great time with it. 10:36 *SPOILERS* That is the grandmaster.

Had to stop on the rant with Estelle. Yes she is the favorite of many heck I think everyone who makes jrpg reviews or focus on kiseki have her at the best character. For me all 3 protagonists (Estelle, Lloyd, and Rean) are in the middle. Renee, Tio, Rixia, ,Sara, Crow, and Altina are my favorites. I don't have a good view of jrpg protagonists thanks to a certain boy using a key as a sword, thus why I have characters like Haseo(.hack), and Velvet(Berseria) as my favorites. The reason I think Estelle was not part of the main characters is because her story and lose ends got resolved when she reunited with Renee. Here we get the aftermath of cold steel 4 which left the bigest impact on Erabonia and crossbell. While the rest of the nations were involved aswell the epucenter were those two.

Sky 3rd was an anomaly of a game. It had the highest highs and lowest lows in the franchise. Was a case of missed potential for me. Reverie is 3rd done right. Retains and at aspects, even enhances everything good about it all the while not having a single of its negatives. I am only 25 hours into it yet and if it continues being this interesting which I am sure it will, this will be my new favorite game in the franchise by a mile.

every feature about this game is marvelous if we're talking about the franchise, but not the story. it's "god have mercy" bland and just a pure milking the franchise. literally the story is unnecessary, it's a non-canon episode story based fans can just skip (not relating to any following series after)
