What different between fish & p.c.r My fish is negative how much years I continue my treatment. This is my first year my cml is diagnosed

The PCR test is more sensitive (can look at more cells). Usually you will have fish in the beginning and the PCRs over time going forward. You need to see the PCR test negative (0%) for at least two years before you can stop treatment.

Hi my husband last test was undetected no copies were detected but again after 6 months it is 0.03 why do you think it happened please reply

Thank you for the comment. Sorry to hear about the increase from undetected. I think your husband will need another test or two to know if there is an issue. It could be a temporary increase and go back down the next time.

Hi Malang -- these new drugs are TKIs -- very similar to the other drugs. So you take for several years and then hopefully can stop treatment. -- Stephen

@@malanggul215 My understanding is this TKI is similar to other TKIs. From what we have been told, if you take your TKI and can get to 0% PCR for five years, you can stop the drug. If after two years after stopping the drug your PCR is still 0%, then doctors consider you cured as the likelihood of the CML coming back is very low. A Bone Marrow transplant can also cure CML, but it is not recommended for people in chronic phase. The risks and costs of the transplant are very high.

Diagnosed in 2018 with 97% Philadelphia chromosome now in 2022 bcr abl is positive but below detection limit .what does that mean

That is very good news. The bcr abl is a very sensitive test. It can find 1 cell in a sample of 10,000 or even 1 cell in a sample of 100,000 cells. So there is always a chance that a test will be positive (at least one cell identified). Every lab has different reporting. I am not exactly sure what positive but below detection limit means. I think it may mean that there are some bcr abl cells there, but they are too low to be able to count. Regardless, this is very good news! - Stephen
