Hi, I was looking for some ssd and adapter for the same MacBook Pro. just wondering why you used Samsung SSD but put the Sabernet SSD in the link. Does the Samsung ssd worked well or failed after sometime.

I did this to my MacBook aswell, but while it was open anyway, I replaced the horribly distributed thermal paste. Cheap and easy fixes.
Thank you for this video. I do wonder. Can we assume the 2017 non touch macbook [15 inche] can also be upgraded like this. And can the battery be upgraded as well ?
nice retro video, great update, well done
how is the battery drain with the Samsung SSD?
That bit about Steve being for upgradability is a bit of a spicy take
Can you upgrade the RAM too? BTW, how can I buy such macbook in 2023? Thanks for your video. 🤔
which camera are you using for your videos?
can i fix a factory locked macbook like this by changing the storage
What camera were you using for your head shot?
I have a question if I don’t have a flash drive or closer or anything just my ssd installed and I reinstalled macOS I am screwed or will it load a older version of macOS
Great video, and pretty easy install. But cannot get my MBpro to SEE the new SSD, even tried two different adaptors. Also wierd, the Restore OS is Sierra . . . so no option to use AFPS, even if it would see the SSD. Thoughts anyone?
Excellent video, a question as I understand you already have about 3 years with that MacBook Air 2017 I really don't know if you still have it but the time you had it never gave you Flexgate problems? I have a MacBook Pro 2017 with a FlexGate video problem. That means that I have to change the screen. I really love this equipment 100%. I don't want to sell it. I love its architecture, how portable its color is. I love EVERYTHING, but buy the screen so that in a year or 2 it will give me FlexGate problems again. Just thinking about it, I'm terrified how you've lasted so long with your computer. If it's the case that I've never given you FlexGate problems. I imagine you never closed the lid of the Macbook THANKS
Great to find this video. I had the 2012 Macbook Pro and had replaced the DVD Superdrive with a 2nd SSD and had a total of 4TB then it got shocked and died when a metal light fixture fell on it a few years ago. I considered looking for a new macbook but found replacing it was futile so basically bought a new 2012 model and it took it to a shop I used and replaced both drives from my old one into the new one and had researched and it seemed most Macs afterwards was less upgradeable. So I have been looking at the new macs which are waaaaaaaay out of my price range. I dj and do video editing and photo editing and music production so having this amount works for me and my secondary drive is partitioned between audio and video. I may be looking then now for a 2017. Another thing I really liked about the 2012 is having all the ports and no need for a dongle. And honestly sometimes I wonder if it might be worth it to try to switch to Windows and do a Hackintosh for a few programs. And honestly there are only a few that I really need for Mac.... Mainly Qlab which I used quite often in Theatre Productions and maybe on a few times I may need the Office apps e.g. Keynote but otherwise Qlab is the main thing. I just really hate having to always have a dongle to carry and if it lost or misplaced SOL. and also esp with photography or video having an SD card is vital without again having a dongle. I generally prefer to use my Ethernet at home, and for Dj'ing I generally always have to use the two USB ports. But for now this new 2012 is holding up but I may look into the 2017 as well for an upgrade. Thanks for a great and informative video. I had heard rumors Apple might bring back laptops with all the ports again - I really hope such a thing does happen.

Hey man. Any update on your 2012 model? How’s it holding up now and can it still edit?
What model of Mac is this? Is this the 13 inch? 2017……
Have been tempted to do this but have heard reports of battery drain after the upgrade which is putting me off.
Wait does it matter if it's 13 or 15inch?
I love your videos. You give me hope for humanity.

Just bought the Touch Bar 2017 model🤦🏾♂️ thinking of returning it and buying this one
Can you do this with the 2016 15inch by chance? Or is an ssd upgrade even possible?

Would the iFixIt Essentials toolkit work for this and upgrading other laptops? The iFixItPro kit is almost the same price as the SSD + Adapter. I've never upgraded my laptop before but I may try this on my 2017 MBP 256 GB SSD. Thanks for this video CreatedTech! I had no idea i had the last upgradeable Macbook.
@CreatedTech

Essentials is a good kit too, it has the T5 and P5 screw heads you need for this MacBook. The Pro kit is nice because it comes with a few extra bits and pieces, but it's not 100% necessary. IMO the biggest selling point for the Pro is you get pretty much every screw head you'd ever need, which can come in handy!

I want to buy an upgradable MacBook typically edit video is it worth me buying an upgradable MacBook or saving my money for an M1 or M2 I use a adobe premiere pro
Time to hunt for a 2017 14 inch MBP!
A rekindled interest on 'right to repair' and the curiosity if the M1 MacBook Pro (2020) batteries are friendly for repair, it makes me think if the old faulty battery on a M1 MacBook Pro replaced with a third party new battery would show the same issue with newer iPhone models from iPhone X to the latest models that prompts 'important battery message' brought me here, and got interested on the MacBook Pro (2017; no touch bar) instead, so with that upgrade from 128GB SSD to a 512GB or 1TB a possible thing to do, maybe in the future making a deal for the same MacBook that has 128GB and upgraded it with 1TB.
Hahahaha, I was cracking up bad when you said, "the Mac God's". Yo! You make upgrading the Macbook seem so easy. Step by step... PS: You've got one fan in the entire of Africa!

With right to repair hitting Apple and the movement gaining steam I expect they will eventually be forced to offer parts replacements and be legally barred from being the exclusive parts seller for said replaceable parts

The 2016-2019 MacBook Pros were unquestionably the worst MacBook Pros ever made. They had the terrible butterfly keyboard and they also suffer from Flexgate, where the screen goes blank if you open it pass a certain angle.

I have the newest macbook pro so no luck for me, I just went with the 1TB model but I make sure to offload my files and videos often to external storage. My plan is to just setup my own cloud storage on the network.

I have been using a NAS for years and it works great. I especially like the built in utility to keep folders synchronized across devices. It can keep up maximum transfer rate all day long without a hiccup. BUT, once you start dealing with TB's of data, speed and potential data lose become big problems. I would recommend a USB attached RAID unless you really need network access for multiple users, say. A NAS is limited by the speed of your network. With 1GB networks this is about 115 MB/s read/write. Good enough for archiving and streaming video, but slow if you want to work on the files directly and very slow when you have to copy TB's of data. A 4-bay hard drive based RAID can manage about 400 MB/s read/write, which is not far off what a SATA SSD can do. Managing large amounts of data and protecting against hardware failure is also a big problem. For example, what do you do if your 10 year old NAS has a power supply failure? Are the RAID configured drives in a standard or proprietary format? So a simple failure could mean you lose TB of data and years of work. Even replacing a failed drive can take days to rebuild and system performance will be compromised during that time. Copying 10TB of data from one device to another over a network takes hours or even days. I would stick to big name RAID or NAS vendors to ensure they will still be around 10 years from now. A good solution would be a USB or Thunderbolt hardware RAID0 directly attached to your main device to act as storage giving read/write speeds of 400 MB/s or more. A NAS with RAID5 of equivalent size could be set up to mirror the RAID0 and provide insurance against hardware failure. This is the solution I am now considering. The devices themselves are not too expensive, its the cost of the hard drives which always holds me back. For example, you would need 9x10TB hard drives to get 40TB of fast and mirrored storage. Bear in mind, mirroring within one device is not as safe as mirroring with two separate devices. That is why I have no problem using RAID0. Regardless - put your NAS or RAID on a filtered UPS! You do not want a power surge to fry your NAS electronics or corrupt a drive.

if they did this to a modern apple silicon macbook I would buy it instantly over my current m1
