The Last Unicorn is an absolute masterpiece of an animated film! i love everything about it the story, the animation, the voice acting Mia Farrow did an outstanding job voicing the Unicorn! And don't get me started on the films opening song, the band "America" did such a first rate job on that masterpiece! it was a fluid song for a 80's animated film!

A beautifully poetic little review you've made. Even if you may lack the words to share the impact it had on you, you have been delightfully eloquent in sharing your love for it nonetheless.
It is the movie that made me fall in love with unicorns, and it will forever be special in my heart. I am in love with the way they animated the unicorns, the glistening shimmer when they dance in the moonlight is just so stunning.
After seeing internet critics rag on this film for so long, it's nice to see someone put some thought into it.

This is one of my childhood favorites and I haven't seen it in years but I'm glad I'm not the only one so touched by it. I need to give it a rewatch sometime soon.

It's free on Tubi right now, so that's an easy place to give it a watch
Love this movie I rented it so many times as a kid. one of my best friends and I bonded when in a Halo (2 or 3) session where he accidentally betrayed me and I looked at him and said "what have you done...what have you done..." And he was the first person who knew what I was referencing. We now use it quite often in our circle of friends but me and my buddy are the only ones who know the reference lol.
Ah yes, one of my favorite films. Love this movie. Christopher Lee was great in this

All the actors turn in absolutely wonderful performances
the unicorn is immortal and therefore supernatural, divine - we see varous human reactions to her: to capture, own, rebuke, adore -
This is hands down my wife's favorite movie and as such we rewatch it a fair bit. The book is also good!

Peter S Beagle is a very talented writer
I came upon this movie through sheer happenstance. My 4 year old daughter loves unicorns and one day we were just looking at various KZread vids about them and a 3 or 4 min music video montage of the movie came up that we watched and she immediately wanted more, so we found the full movie and since then, it’s been her favorite!
Thank you for this sincere review! Glad to see that this movie is getting the love it deserves.

One of those greats that I never really had the chance to truly see for myself. From what I have heard and read, though, it seems like a rare modern melancholic film (and book, Peter S. Beagle wrote both the book and the screenplay) that's actually heartfelt instead of being a drain on one's capacity to care.

Never too late to check it out! I remember growing up with the movie, but not getting to read the book until entering my adult years, as well as with the graphic novel series. Still one of my favorite books/movie adaptations that I look back on fondly.

@@Scarshadow666 I actually did get around to watching the movie and am saving up to give an audiobook version a listen sometime. (Sadly, a lot of money is chewed up in various debts.)
America did a great job with the music.
I am 40 and have been watching it since I was a child, and still watching this master piece and reread the novel, and still be touched by it and cry as it is the first time. It simply touches your essence as a human, and all characters’ struggle resonates with a wound we have in a way or another. Thank you for this video and your words.
I just watched it again for the first time since I was little The artful backdrops and art alone were enough to make me tear up
Too true. I grew up on this film and it's stood the test of time. It's the most beautiful animation and will always be my favorite. And it even does the book justice. Besides leaving out the prophecy of the prince, it was true to the story.
I had this movie on VHS back in the 90s. I bought it with my dad when we went to get our Friday night fish and chips and it happened to be on sale at the video store next door to the fish shop. Thank goodness for that because this is absolutely one of my favourite movies of all time. I've never seen such a beautiful and melancholy movie as this one. Lives rent free in my head and I know all the words to all the songs. I'm glad it's getting a little more positive attention these days. You put it perfectly.
I used to love it as a child and I still do, but upon rewatching it as an adult I realised how grim and depressing it is. It doesn't even have a happy ending with couple living happily ever after. 🥺 It was one of the first VHS tapes we owned in a time when VHS players were extremely rare and there were no movies like this in cinemas in my country. Therefore I consider myself to be very lucky that I could experience such a deep and lovely movie as a child. It was made in 82 the sme year that I was born.
I caught what you said at the end. 😉. Truly. This movie moves me like no other. A Time Machine back into a time of innocence
This is my favorite childhood movie and I don't give a flying F what an adult should watch I'll watch this as many times until the day I die
This it's not a movie for kids. It sims for an adult public. And also not for the mere mortals to understand. Biutiful and melancholic.
Gonna try to find this movie

Omggggg ofc you would have a video on this 😫🙏🏽🙌🏽
**Young me watching this for the first time** Wow... **My brain** Here kiddo, have some existential dread. Buckets and buckets of it. Still loved it.
I guess we'll just ignore the scene with the magically-animated tree and its heaving bosoms? In all seriousness, the film's more quirky moments--such as what I noted above--ultimately don't take away from how great the film is as a whole. You wrote quite an eloquent and heartfelt review; it's quite good. And I must say that I was both surprised (almost gobsmacked, really) and delighted when I heard the song "That's All I've Got to Say" performed in The Orville TV show! I was a really happy to find that The Last Unicorn touched other people deeply enough to feature it on a fun sci-fi show.
great to see this movie being appreciated, its such an overlooked classic that deserves more attention, a very unique fairy tale in the world of cinema :)
Love the sweet, cheeky outro ^_^

Such an amazing movie and story
This is one of the first animated movies with a Hollywood voice cast before they were a listers.
There was a Sequel story Two Hearts
Rankin/Bass Nevers disappoints. I love this movie and the book!
It is! I‘m 40 now and I‘m hoping for a live action movie since more than three decades. Peter Jackson would be a great choice in my opinion. Maybe it’s going to happen one day.
A masterpiece
I see what you did at the end ;)
Yes
I only watched this movie as a kid because once because I cried too hard when Amalthea became human so my parents returned it too blockbuster

Childhood core memory movie 😭🤍
I always loved the Unicorn parody in Gravity Falls - in one of the episodes they need to gather Unicorn tears for a spell which Mabel is really excited about because she's all about them, and thinks that she'll have no problem with that job because Unicorns cry for maidens of pure heart and she feels that she falls into that category, only for the Unicorns to say otherwise. After a long time of trying to please them and failing causing Mabel to have a breakdown feeling that she's not pure enough, the characters overhear the Unicorns discussing how nothing will ever be good enough because they are grifting assholes who are deliberately moving the goalposts. so Wendy decides to take things into her own hands, instead of doing things Mabel's way, let's do it the Lumberjack way. All the girls resolve to work together to beat the ever-loving shit out of these magical horses, and get home with a whole bucket of tears, and also a few teeth and hairs for good measure. It's a hilarious idea, and well earned by the end of the episode.

@@AddyLovestarWhile I love the film, I do think the animation is one of the weakest parts. Pretty much every frame looks good if you pause it, it doesn't really look good in motion. (There are always exceptions. It has been a year or so since rewatching it, so I can't name specific scenes that look especially good or bad.)
Beautifully said.
