OMG! Liz was so beautiful in this movie it's almost painful to believe that a human being could look like that. She had an angelic quality about her that was totally gone by the time she did "Virginia Woolf" twelve years later. She was a lovely and gorgeous lady who devoted the last three decades of her life dedicating herself to combating AIDS. She was certainly the one of the great humanitarians of her time. The fact that people now live normal lives with AIDS is probably the greatest testimony to Elizabeth Taylor's greatness and impact on this world.

Gosh I agree so much. The days when ladies were ladies pure elegance. Im 62 and I always remember my mother, never left the house without her lipstick on and a full face of make up every day. She always wore heels 👠 and slept in curling pins. Always very smart. She was born in 1926

Did you see, " Ivanhoe," with Elizabeth Taylor and Robert Taylor ( I think,)...we saw it at a drive-,in in Opa,-Locka when we were waiting for my father who wad flying in from Gitmo, Cuba....his plane was late so we went to see the movie...my little sister fell asleep in the back seat. We could afford the admission but nothing to eat...once the movie was over we headed back to the air field and waited. He finally came in and we headed home..It waz a good thing it was Fri....we all slept in. 1954 or 55 ...But I do remember how pretty ,Elizabeth was. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🦋🦋🎈🎈🎵🎵🌟🌟

OMG I had forgotten how these wonderful old movies make me cry. I haven't had a good cry in a movie for years. So So beautiful.

Wiw, this video with actress Elizabeth Taylor revealed her true acting ability. Her magical beauty is indescribable! She gave so much bach as a humanitarian to the cause of HIV-AIDS.

I love Walter Pidgeon!!! Even as a supporting character, his presence in a film is powerful. Suave, sophisticated, debonair. What a star!!

Indeed I could not agree with you more and in contrast Van Johnston was almost maudlin over emotional and annoying in his portrayal of Elizabeth Taylor's husband.Also poor casting with Elizabeth Taylor playing his shabbily treated and neglected wife.Please a man would have had to be completely brain dead to treat such a breathtakingly beautiful wife like that!Which is why I suspect it was such an easily forgotten film.Too many gaps all round.No way Donna Reed could have unrequited love for him.Ofcourse Montgomery Clift playing her husband might just have balanced out the whole thing.Alas one more movie bites the dust.C'est la vie

I have always been a fan of Elizabeth Taylor! She was a great actor and person. Before my Mom died she would watch all her movies with me. I always loved all the old time movies! They were classy actors even in the long ago shows! Love to watch the oldies and great movies.

Very touching story! 🔥🔥🔥 It's not good for couples to let an issue linger for too long before they resolve it. One moment we are living and the next, we could be gone. Maybe if Charlie, had listened to Helen when she said she wanted to go home, they would not have had a huge fallout, which lead to her death. We should always treasure the time the universe has given us to share with our loved ones before it is suddenly snatched out of our hands. I can relate to Charlie's writer's struggle. The journey is always very tough. But once you've got it in you to write, you can never quit regardless of how many times your story is rejected. You may even be down sometimes and feel like giving up with an overwhelming emotions assailing from your perpetual failures, but you will always pick up yourself and keep writing until you have your break. Great premise!!! 👌👌👌

It took me a second to realize the tennis player was a VERY young Roger Moore. Cheerio!

I watched this last night, I thought Elizabeth Taylor and Van Johnson were made for the parts they played! Love the one you're with, it can fall apart so easily. All you have left is regrets!

It is a wonderful movie. In addition, Elizabeth Taylor performance is amazing !

I live in Paris now...... love watching all kinds of movies on Paris.... makes me feel that I AM part of history the is bigger than me!!

The fit and color of her dress at the 45:00 mark is perfection, as is the black gown and placement of the diamond brooch at 1:13:00. Helen Rose made beautiful women even more so in these movies. I’d love to see a documentary of her work.

I disagree. Cosmetics and wardrobe were overdone on Taylor to the point of caricature. Her natural endowments were so spectacular that the attempt to over emphasize became detraction. It was a case of gild the lily

I agree. Edith Head and the Westmores (wardrobe & makeup) were my favorites. Quality films always pay for the best, as they did here. I see most women today as being too lazy to wear a bit of makeup and clothing to cover them without being skin tight to accentuate their weight problems. Instead, they talk about being "natural" and look down on those of us who still have too much pride to go out looking like slobs.

My father loved this movie. He said it was the saddest movie he ever saw.

The last time I saw this movie it was on the TV late show, and it was mercilessly shortened and chopped apart with commercials - - to the point where it didn't make sense. It's a pleasure to finally see it in the original full-length version. Thanks!!!

Also as simply human beings, you never know the terrible consequences when you're being cruel and a bitch to someone. Or a bully. You're probably killing that person, while having fun, playing games and lying. Her untimily tragic dead is a good example of the stupidity of such bullies... (although in the film the reason was different. They didn't have bullies everywhere as nowadays).

I wasn't born yet at this time when this filem was shown. I am an old man now, as this filem was a very long time ago. The world was already crowded with people. Finally heartwarming, when lessons are learned, people grow up emotionally, and go on to make a happy life with what they have left! Well, the nasty person was the blond woman, right? He wasn't too guilty considering that he had this awfully difficult situation of his books repeatedly never getting published, I thought? Of course he never should have shutted her out. Now imagine that you really haven't anywhere or anyone to go to, and that you're 63, yu don't have strength anymore, and that they have stolen your home, house, and you just have some bags with the most indispensable things, and that they put you on the street all the time repeatedly in order for people just to have fun and laugh, in order just to mishandle you and step on you, and tell lies about you. It's happening right now and every single day to me: being awfully abused every single day for no reason, and having those things and much worst beeing done to me. While I write these very words, the people who do these things are playing music because they feel so proud of it. Heartbreaking and heartwarming? How about when it is in real life right before your eyes - and even much much worst? THAT should be really heartbreaking to any decent person.

This was a very good movie it captured ones emotions . I was reminded of my own journey the last time i saw Berlin and the incredible unforgettable Love Affair i had with the most handsome charming elegant Gentleman i ever encountered . The first time i saw him he smiled at me across the room and i was immediately enchanted ,it was like he was waiting only for me . We were introduced and from that moment on we both knew our chemistry was undeniable . He was American visiting Berlin ,but he had only one more day in Berlin . We met on a Sunday evening and Monday would be his last day and he planned on to travel to Hamburg another great city in Germany . Now i had to make a decision , one day was just not enough to get to know each other and i thought it is best to leave this situation , because i saw no other way .There was another problem i did not speak English so we could not communicate very well a friend came to our aid and interpret some things we wanted to say to each other . Nevertheless i opted to leave , it was not easy to walk away from such a handsome gentleman and i will never forget the disappointment on his face Little that i knew the unusual event that would unfold the next day. It was Monday afternoon now and i had to visit my local Post-office to conduct some business. As i stepped in i was stopped in my tracks and i thought i am seeing a Mirage, but it was real there stood this handsome Gentleman from the evening before , but it was in a different part of the city . I wondered how could this be possible that we meet again at the same time of the day in the part of the city where i lived . At that moment i realized that something higher was in play i call it Fate .He immediately noticed me and came over to me laid his arm around me as to say :this time i am not letting you go .Our friend was also there we needed him to interpret again. RG wanted me to travel with him to Hamburg so we could spend the next 8 days together and he wanted also to be alone with me the rest of the day . My mind was racing and for some reason i agreed i could not turn back now. We left together purchased 2 dictionary's English / German & German /English that is how we started to communicate .We found a little cozy Cafe' and we had only eyes for each other RG would hold my hands and told me how happy he was that i wanted to be with him , of course it was mutual and our personality's matched so perfectly . Evening approached and now what, do i go home or stay with him at his hotel for the night, yes i stayed with him . It was a unforgettable night he was not only handsome ,but he also was a gentle attentive amazing lover. The only way i can explain it was sheer bliss Now Tuesday RG rented a car and of we drove to Hamburg and we had sunshine all the way . RG would always lovingly look over to me smile and reach for my hand and i could really see how happy he was of course so was I. We arrived at our destination and he told me that he would like to make me his wife before God as long as we are together , I was so touched my heart skipped a beat . It was a lovely small privately owned Hotel it was more like a home and so comfortable . Our time together was thrilling full of passion and our world stood still for that moment in time . (It was never duplicated in his life nor mine) Our hearts , emotions and body's were bonded in a way i never felt before nor after. After 7 magical days the time came when we had to say farewell .I decided to take the Train back to Berlin . RG took me to the Train Station purchased my ticked then we embraced and kissed for the last time I entered my compartment opened the window and he would immediately reach for my hand . As the train slowly started to move he would still hold my hand and moved with the train until the station ended and we had to let go . (Then i did not know if it would be forever) We waved as long as we could see each other and then suddenly the view changed . I took my seat and totally broke down my tears were flowing all the way back to Berlin . A few months later i received a letter from him telling me that it was the happiest time for him in his life he spend at my side in Berlin and he shall never forget it . He also ask me if i wanted to come to America to be with him . I wrote back but did not give him an answer , because i needed time to think about making potentially such a important decision . A few months later i received another letter and he basically asked me the same question and he wrote Remember You Were My Wife? I could not go to America at that time for several reasons. I know he wanted to get married and i was his choice . To be perfectly honest i had such a good life in Berlin and to leave everything behind and to venture out into the unknown of another country was daunting This was basically our last communication and i can only imagine how he felt and his thoughts. I kept his letters among my important papers for over 25+ years . Obviously we both moved on with our life's and 6 years later i married an American he lived in Berlin ,but later we moved to America and i immigrated .RG got married one year after we met to a nice lady , but their marriage ended after 8 years. Sad to say after 7 years i got divorced and that's when i started to search for my handsome unforgettable Lover not knowing what i would find . I was hesitant because i did not wanted to interrupt his present life . While searching on line i could not find him under his name that i had and that was on his letters . I could not understand the reason only later i found out he changed the last letter of his last name from a "Y" to an "I" that is why i did not get any result . After about 2 years searching on and off i came across a site called Legacy and for some unknown reason only God knows i clicked on it and what i saw shocked me to the core and the pain that pierced my heart i can't form in words, it was His Legacy / Obituary he died of a sudden fatal Heart Attack in June 2015 . I saw all the names of his family on the obituary and on the bottom was a Phone # and i called that # because i just had to find out all i could and i also had so many questions. A lady answered and i asked her if it was her husband on the Obituary and she said it was her Ex-husband . I told her who i was and she was very gracious , we talked for a long time and she told me everything i wanted to know all about their life's together (most of the time it was not happy) She shared a lot with me and It became clear to me they were not very compatible and many romantic ingredients were missing. That is when i realized that the ultimate happiness eluded RG and me , because i truly believe we were meant for each other , BUT,,,,,,,,, I became close friends with his ex-wife it was truly a miracle and she also introduced me to her grown Son they had together . He is almost as handsome as his Father and as we talked and i shared my story with him a bonding took place between us and he even welcomed me to the family .it was a incredible unexpected touching moment I was overwhelmed sad and happy at the same time . He also shared with me that his father before he died told him about the happiest time he spend in Germany with a beautiful lady and he never could forget her . I was overjoyed to hear that, than i knew he kept his word what he wrote to me in his letters that he shall never forget me and he took it with him into eternity ! Needless to say he will live in my heart until it is my time to leave this earth ! I wrote this in loving memory to the most incredible and extremely exiting loving handsome man that ever graced my life. ( He was a young Cary Grant look alike) . I watched the movie "In Name Only" with Cary Grant and Carol Lombard and i thought i saw my unforgettable Lover Just a small detail , we met once in June, he died in June and i found (him) his obituary in June 2018 My only regret that i did not find him before he died , it will stay always with me ........I can truly say now to my eternal love we have not missed that "Many Splendored Thing",,,,,,,,,,,,

Those 8 days with the most incredible handsome exiting kind passionate loving man had a lifelong impact on me . Retracing my steps and comparing it to his , we had similar unhappy experiences during our separate journey with others and the ultimate happiness in our separate life's eluded us both ! I know fate brought us together and the decision so long ago i have made kept us apart and now i am left with the word "IF" since i know now that he never forgotten me , It is to late eternity is forever !

I came to terms with the decision i made over 30 years ago , if i had said yes and gone to America then it would have altered both out life's history . He made me his wife before God for the 7 days in Hamburg and he reminded me of that in his letters . All i know for sure now that fate brought us together and then fate intervened and kept us apart . This amazing interlude had an effect on our future life without us realizing it. Apart ,true happiness eluded us both . I can say this with certainty because i know now his history and it is very similar to mine ! Kim if you don't mind i would like to share the very beginning of our unusual first meeting on a warm summer evening in June . I walked into a Bistro just to have a bite to eat . I took my place on the bar and as i looked to my right there sat this incredible handsome stranger in the corner and he smiled at me , he looked very much like a young Cary Grant without the cleft in his chin. Needless to say i was taken by what i saw . The bartender came over to me and informed me that the handsome stranger invited me to join him . My mind was racing and i accepted that invitation . Now we came face to face , but he only spoke English and I did not at that time .Since he befriended the bartender and he spoke English he did interpret some of what we needed to say . Of course not speaking the same language made it very difficult to continue . Peter the bartender told me that R.G will only be one more day in Berlin and than he will travel to Hamburg . So because of knowing that there was no need for me to stay any longer ,even though i was totally enchanted with this handsome stranger . I told him goodbye and wished him well . I will never forget the disappointment on his face . I was a bit sad , but i thought it was for the best little that i knew at that time . The next day a Monday afternoon i had to go to the local post office to send a letter to Italy where i was on vacation just a few weeks past . As i walked into the post office I was stunned there in the middle of the room stood handsome R.G , he immediately saw me and came over put his arm around me and motioned that this time he is not letting me get away . I was puzzled how it was possible for him to be at this post office at the same time , because the evening before we met in a different part of town and his hotel is also in a different part of the city . Peter the bartender was also there , R.G told him to tell me that he would like to spend time with me and also invited me to travel with him to Hamburg the next day . I was so overwhelmed my head was spinning . Finally i agreed to spend time with him , but we had to go to a bookstore and get English/German dictionary's . Then we went to a restaurant and we had only eyes for each other , we did not need many words . Now evening approached and i had to decide to go home or stay with R.G . Well we both went to his Hotel and spend the night together and to say the least it was sheer bliss . He was not only so very handsome he also was a incredible attentive lover and he made my world stand still . The next day he rented a car and we traveled to Hamburg . It was a wonderful trip we were both so happy and R.G always smiled at me .Once we arrived in Hamburg and found our Hotel it was small and family owned . Our room was so cozy and comfortable it felt like home and like i already said he made me his wife before God. The next 7 Days became unforgettable , our chemistry was undeniable from the very beginning and our happiness had no bounds . Now the 7 days and our once in a lifetime unforgettable Love Affair came to an end and i had to return back to Berlin and R.G had to go back to America . I decided to take a Train and R.G went with me to the station he bought my ticket and then we had one last Hug & Kiss . I boarded the Train found my compartment opened the window and R.G was reaching for my hand . The train very slowly started to move and R.G held on to my hand and moved with the Train until the station came to an end he had to let go of my hand . We waved to each other as long as we could see each other and than all of a sudden i could not see him anymore . I took my seat and totally broke down the pain i felt in my heart at that moment i can't put in words . It became very clear to me that i never would see my unforgettable handsome Lover again ! The rest is history now and what we both experienced and the love we had for each other was never duplicated , not in his life nor in mine ! I shared this story in my loving memory of the most incredible handsome man that ever graced my life for a moment in time and my heart will always silently ache ! God bless you Kim !

It was not even the whole love story i wrote and yes you are right i was blessed to have known the most incredible loving ,attentive exiting handsome man ,nobody ever could take his place ! Now knowing how his life went what his ex-wife shared with me , i can safely say we both never found the ultimate happiness apart from each other ,because our personality's blended perfectly and our chemistry was over the top . i always shed a tear when i watch this moving film, also i love the songs . i spent a lot of time in Paris in the sixties, when it had a stronger French feeling than. now.

So real in many ways. Couples pull apart like rubber bands, sometimes they are close, sometimes far apart. One takes a left turn, the other a right, they somehow miss each others needs when they need them heard the most urgently and if it happens too often, even the strongest bonds can break. There must be millions of stories out there in the world like that. Someone said to me once, sometimes love isn't enough.... thats what this movie said to me... Love Paris, Love Elizabeth and Van's sincerity was palpable. Beautiful pathos, beautiful film.

Ishi Lala I'm can relate.. I missed my chance with my bf back in the 60s, we both went different ways and I often wonder how he is.. he tried to see me a few times but I was already married. I'm now a widow and wonder if Id married him would I'd not be Alone. He was my age , marrying an older guy left me a widow too soon. My hubby was 10'years older than me and passed away .. I miss him terribly. But I've had two great loves in my lifetime.. which is more than some people ..

It was so tragic, wasn't it, to see their pain pull them apart, but for me there was redemption. They realised again how much they loved each other and how deep it was. They found each other before she died and you could see that for her at least that was all that mattered. I imagined her taking that on into her next life! And him on into the rest of his. Anyway, gosh this film got to me!

I remember seeing this movie as a girl and absolutely falling in love with it. Equal parts of joy and the despair, the story moved me to tears. Make sure you have a full box of Kleenex along with your popcorn.

I liked her the best like Cat Maggie with Paul Newman...it was so magic between them. I have goose pipes till now 😊❤️🥰

I wish they still made movies like this. Thank you for sharing this classic. :)

@@alicjarysart the difference between them is the way Hollywood treated the two classic divas,Hollywood showed great respect and paid very high incomes to Elizabeth Taylor but they treated Marilyn Monroe as a lowly paid unpopular actress and even dismissed her at her unfinished last film(something got to give),even in the film(gentleman prefer blonde)Marilyn Monroe income was only one quarter of her co partner Jane Russell!Elizabeth Taylor is far more too lucky and happy in every way in comparison with Marilyn Monroe!she enjoyed great fortune,longevity,children's love and honest friendship with Michael Jackson,on the other hand Marilyn Monroe lead a tragic short life with no child and ended up in a sad way!two similar classic Hollywood divas with two quite different fate!

I SAW THIS FILM EIGHT YEARS OLD AND REMEMBER IT.

She was a better actress back then, and her voice was far nicer than in later movies. Qualities she lost as she morphed into a mega celebrity. She was never as beautiful as she was here.

I still remember this from when I was 10 years old!!

I wasn't alive when this movie came out, but I love him, everything about the 50s and the 60s makes me so excited like I lived these decades. My dad and my mom often say that maybe I was from these decades in my past life, and often I dream about it. I'm thirteen years old, but I love vintage stuff.

Kurt Kasznar is so young in this movie, I first became familiar with him in the 60's Sci-fi TV series Land of the Giants.

Elizabeth did some of her best acting in this film, before she knew she was "Elizabeth Taylor." She was just so natural and unpretentious in this movie. I loved her in everything, but this one is really good. No matter how many times I watch it, I cry.

A great story. Loved the post war scenes of Paris. My father was in the Pacific - his little brother was in the army in Paris at the liberation - attended the FDR memorial service at Notre Dame. Had a love affair with a French girl. - the experience of a life time. But the bottle got him. In 1957 he jumped to his death from a building in Seattle.

Sorry about your loss, back in the day. And yes, a loss like this hurts for as long as we are still here. There can never be any consolation for the loss of loved ones. Life is just a raindrop on the Pacific Ocean, relative to Eternity. So many seem to lose sight of that fact and regard life as interminable because they have problems. Everyone in the world has problems, we are meant to have them and overcome them, it seems.
