The last really good CHEAP CAR? Kia Picanto 2023 review - GT manual
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
If your budget is tight but you want a new car, get a Picanto while you still can.
The Kia Picanto city car is a great little thing, and while the prices now are higher than ever before, it's still relatively affordable when you consider what's on offer.
With a fantastic seven-year warranty and capped-price servicing plus roadside assistance, you couldn't rent a car for cheaper than this!
I drove the GT manual model, which is more fun than you should be able to have for this kind of money. I loved it.
Oh, and did you know, this car is called the Kia Morning in Korea? And they don't get it with the sporty GT version tested here??

Had my GT since November, waited six months for it, and it was definitely worth the wait. Everyone's comments about fun are true, the five speed manual with the turbo is a hoot to drive. It fits into tiny city spaces that other cars don't even recognize as candidates and has a very sharp turning circle. As for fuel, on a trip up to Coffs I managed 4.9litres/100km, I almost fell out of my seat laughing. Takes off well at traffic lights and is very well behaved on the freeway. Totally recommended.

I was always after a Picanto. I was at kia to pickup my mothers Carnival from its service and decided to take one for a test drive for the hell of it. Literally walked off the lot with that exact car. Had to wait about 2 weeks for them to clean it up, put all the additional I asked for, but pretty much drove the car I wanted off the lot after a test drive. I have had it for over 12 months now and its an absolute dream to drive and a fun little pocket rocket.

What I like about the Piccanto is that it hearkens back to a time of simplicity in design, meaning no tech bloat which means plenty of things cant break.
Yes I would buy one of these Matt, and loving manuals, the GT would be fine. They look great in white. Having owned, 4, 5 and 6 speed manuals 5 speeds is my pick anyway...4 speeds for around town and 5th on the freeway. Keeps it simple.

I prefer manual too. My children learnt / are learning manual. My 18 year old drives our Ford Focus manual and our 16 year old is learning manual in Mum's Picanto GT. It will be a sad day when I can't buy a manual car.
I got the 1.2 manual GT Line. Turbo costs more, is a GDI, needs twice as much servicing and may not do so well in the depreciation stakes. Also could cost a lot if any failure isn't supported by warranty.
Bom ensaio do picanto gt ,parabéns!!!!
Having driven a base picanto automatic from Melbourne to Canberra and back, I can say it's fine. I'm 185cm tall and 105kg, so no light weight. It was reasonably comfortable, the air-conditioning did the job without overly blunting the performance. Overall good and most definitely better than you might expect from the specifications.

Hi Matt! Great review Matt! I’ve owned my GT for about 1.5 years! Such a great little car! I was contemplating of getting a Yaris however Toyota increased the prices on the Yaris considerably. I can also say that the GT is more fun/fuel efficient to drive than a manual Yaris! In my experience the lowest fuel consumption I’ve seen in my GT (on the freeway, doing 80-100kph, was 3.9L/100km, with an aftermarket performance chip 107kw at the engine). Swapping the stock tyres with grippier tyres and lowering the car will make the car much more enjoyable to drive! The autonomous braking system, wireless CarPlay/android auto and heated side mirrors are just a few extra/premium features to have on this little car! I ordered mine in early 2021 when it was $21,000 drive away. The cheapest Yaris was $28k 😬.

I'm surprised that you tested this model. I'd buy the Picanto one model down with the auto and learn to live with it. I think most city cars are bought by auto buyers. Don't you have the Hyundai i10 in Australia ? Very similar to the Picanto.
@therightcar
Жыл бұрын
No we don’t. Hyundai says the business case doesn’t make sense.
The GT Line is a pretty good little vehicle. The handling & the ride ain't half bad either & that little 1.0 turbo 3 pot is a goody . The base models are still very decent as well but the 1.2 Atmo engines need a constant hit with your right foot to get the best out of them . I'd pass on the Fiat. And particularly on any MG , they are still very ordinary , unimpressive cars. Im a little perplexed that the GT Line in the UK comes with standard Sat Nav yet its not included on vehicles offered here ??? Yeah sure the kia isn't perfect, but what other car gives you so much fun for so few $$$$?
@therightcar
Жыл бұрын
Thanks Steve - yeah, they've had to keep costs as low as they can, so sat nav isn't a goer - think the buyer demo is more towards younger drivers (who use their phone for maps anyway), so sat nav isn't in high demand. You're right, though - the smiles for spend equation is very good, here.

A city car getting hit by a large SUV at city speeds probably is not going to kill you (which is the purpose of a small car), but if you get hit by a semi truck on the highway you are probably dead nor matter if you drive a city car or a large SUV, it is all about the size, weight and speed of the vehicle hitting you.
