Couldn't have imagined a better onscreen Joel and Ellie than Pedro and Bella.

Those two are an awesome combo! I have never played the game so I have no preconceived expectations, they are just killing it.

Agreed. They have a fabulous real life rapport too.
As soon as I saw her pull out *THE* joke book I actually threw my fists sky high. And I’m so glad that they added the diarrhea joke because I was afraid they would *run* out of ideas. But seriously, this show is so insanely faithful to the game that it doesn’t feel like a show but almost like and expansion pass/extended cut of the game. Even though I do miss the scene of Joel teaching Ellie how to use a rifle and then saying “No matter what happens, you make every show count” I still love him teaching her how to use the pistol because a) it shows the bond between these two growing and b) it tells the audience that Ellie had some training from FEDRA so her learning quickly feels natural. And now we are getting to see the more human side of the people who were trying to kill Joel and Ellie in Kansas City (instead of Pittsburgh like in the game). Neil Druckman and Craig Mazin said their inspiration came from how throughout history there have been cases where the revolution that usurps a repressive regime becomes just as bad if not worse than the previous regime. Also loved that we got to see Jeffery Pierce (aka Tommy from the games) finally show up in the show!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
I loved the choice to focus on Ellie's reaction when she shot Bryan. And I LOVED the choice to drag out Bryan's demise. It'd a perfectly horrible creative choice. Just makes the violence feels real because it's messy and doesn't make you feel particularly great even if one can argue Bryan had it coming (and I'd say he did!). It gave off a lot of TLoU2-gameplay vibes.

begging for mercy was a mechanic in part 1.
The actress who played Kathleen her name is Melanie Lynskey she played Rachel Wheaton on the TV Mini Series Rose Red by Stephen King
Fun fact: This episode had the game voice actor for Tommy make a cameo appearance as the rebel leader's 2nd in command. Also, the scene inside the truck with the adult magazine was pulled straight from the game almost shot for shot.
In an episode full of great moments, my favorite moment was Joel standing guard at night so that Ellie will be safe from any potential danger and can sleep soundly They also used a little sting of music from the game that I like quite a lot
i like that they kept the good line from the game 'but youre glad i did right' and get rid of something you didn't shoot my head off or something and make Joel more Vulnerable
Kathleen is played by Melanie Lynskey of Two and a Half Men and Yellowjackets among others.
Bryan wasn't faking it. Ellie shot him in the back and paralyzed him. Kathleen's actress I only know from two and a half man, where she played the psycho stalker Rose. Her sidekick is the actor of in-game Tommy. The entire magazine scene in the car was pretty much 1:1 from the game.
ep 3 is very critical to the plot of the whole story. the letter that bill left for joel is the start of joel accepting his role in the story anb gave him purpose back into his life.
That roller-coaster is at worlds of fun. It's a theme park in Kansas City. Rode it many times. It's cool to see KC in a big time thing because you definitely don't see it much.
Always love the sensitivity and sense of humor you guys carry in reviews!! Such a great episode where you can see the really sweet fatherly bond between Joel and Ellie
@The Movie Couple, 22:08 This episode incorporated a lot from the game while fleshing out the militia we never really got to meet, as we were running from them. While running from them, we run into Henry and Sam who are also running from them. This series is adding to that story in a way the game didn't or couldn't--the game was about Ellie and Joel, so everyone else wasn't exactly important. The ambush at the start was taken from a different part of the game, but it fit so well with this part of the story. What they did with Bryan was interesting, as we never really have NPC's beg for their life. While I don't doubt Bryan begging for his life, we should recall that the ambush started with one guy pretending to be hurt, trying to appeal to the empathy of unsuspecting passersby so that they could catch them off guard and steal their gear. Bryan knew his crew wasn't that far behind him. If he could stall them, even for a little bit, he increased his own chance of survival. It was a tough scene for sure, but had Joel let him live, Kathleen and her soldiers would know exactly who else they're looking for. The next episode is dropping early, Friday, because of the Super Bowl! I cannot wait!
Bullets are precious. BTW, Kathleen's 2nd is the voice actor who voiced Tommy in the video game.
I love the detail of Joel using a fork and knife on his ravioli lol while Ellie just skulls the food.
I absolutely loved this episode ❤ so much of this episode was straight from the game. "Crunch crunch crunch."
I love the added characters it makes it feel more relatable than the shoot everyone and move on deal of the game. Plus I noticed that the name of the episode is Please Hold To My Hand but different reactors have called it that or Please Hold My Hand as it sounded more normal. The episode's title references the lyrics of "Alone and Forsaken" by Hank Williams, which Joel and Ellie play on the radio.
After browsing through Hulu yesterday, I realized she was on the Hulu original "Candy" with Jessica Biel. I liked her better in that series.
The opening scene of the episode felt VERY Taxi Driver-esque to me. And funnily enough, Game Ellie has canonically watched Taxi Driver based upon an INCREDIBLY obscure line of dialogue that I have to imagine not too many people know. I've yet to meet or see anyone talk about this lol In the DLC, you can come across a "triple phoenix" mask. If you wear it and press square a couple times, Ellie will say, "Ay, you talking to me??" lol
Friday, next episode, no show on Sunday, the super bowl on Sunday….
Episode 5 is premiering this Friday instead of Sunday. Don’t want to compete with the Super Bowl.
Ellie and Joel after this episode 🤝🏻🤝🏻🤝🏻
Thanks it very interesting. By the way, when you see the another bad batch episode?
All Zombie narratives are the same theme "Humans are the true monsters". Last of Us is a bit different in that the entire story is about love and how love keeps us together and may doom us as a species. That story is still wrapped in that Zombie theme. Are the infected the monsters or are we?
I think sleeping in the truck would be more risky on account of raiders and slavers, if your scavenging your more likely to check a truck as opposed to checking the middle of the woods
In an apocalyptic world, if I found sitting ducks in a truck, I would make sure they couldn't get away. At least, sleeping on the ground, gives you a chance to escape.

Hi Dustin Hi Wendy I really enjoyed your reaction to this episode the best part was Ellie telling the Jokes and looking at that magazine Ellie and Joel laughing together while they sleep in the end was the best moment. Wonder what's gonna happen next episode?
It was actually very smart of Ellie to put the gun in her pocket, because,if they are caught they would taker her backpack first. Though, I have no idea why Joel didn’t grab his backpack too, he for sure hat time enough.

Joel didn't know there was time. For all he knew more bandits were right around the corner...
This area is the longest part of the game and the lady in charge she was on two and a half Men
great reaction
bring tissues for the next episode
Im so naive, i thought those cars blocking the road were just the result of an accident 20 yre ago.
Idk why joel didnt find an abandoned motel or hotel on side of the road to stay at overnight instead of the forest. Be nice to have bed lol
Dustin guessing everything right 😂🙄🙄. You better not ruin it for Wendy.
Is that a fucking Frank alive????????? with a beard why nobody is talking about it??
Orphan. FEDRA school. Gun lessons.
Episode 3 is still better...episode 5 should have some good flashback scenes.
