Joel laughing at Ellie puns is one of my favourite things they have added of character bonding that wasn’t in the game. I don’t think game Joel ever laughed that hard so it’s nice to see

@@ben1ben2ben1 I think it’s also because we have more time with Joel in the game, I think in the show he is more played more sadly whereas game Joel feels overall a bit more angry

They finally made Joel and Ellie bond in a way that is natural

Completely caught me off guard to learn that the actor who played Perry also voiced Tommy in the game. Love these little nuances that they throw at us. Another great reaction Mary!!!

It was neil and craig idea to bring the original voice of ellie and joel (motion capture) in this drama series since they are the originator of the video game and random fact perry was never in the video game

Whenever I go camping, I always bring a few cans of Chef Boyardee ravioli and spaghetti and now I will always think of that scene where Joel introduces Ellie to it.

This scene shows how cold blooded that this unassuming woman could be. It’s probably what made her the leader of this liberated city. You don’t need to be a muscle bound person to be a savage.

Ellie :" It wasn't my first time " Theory : first time is maybe Riley... 😭

This episode is probably my favorite I'm starting to like the chemistry between Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey. Plus I literally laughed at that last joke. 🤣

Kathleen is a new character to flesh out the group that were in Pittsburgh in the game. I recommend the podcast hosted by Troy Baker. He interviews Craig Maizen and Neil Druckman after each episode and it gives a great creative perspective on adapting the game for television.

When Ellie finds the beefcake magazine, I cracked up laughing! She goes, "How could someone walk around with THAT thing", and "Why are the pages stuck together?" Joel felt like he had an out of body experience when she asked that. Lol!

At least the truck got them from their day of hiking from Boston, out to Kansas City. Pedro Pascal himself was born in 1975, so he's late 40s. Joel was 36 in the beginning of ep 1, and then lost his daughter, then we time jump 20 years into the future.

One thing I dont see people talking about is Sam's gun at the end.... Anyone notice that it doesnt have any bullets in it? You can see right through the cylinder... You wouldnt be able to do that if there were bullets in it.

Joel killing the dude was tough. You just know if the tables were turned he would not hesitate, but there's just something about a grown man crying for his mom in his last moments that makes me really uncomfortable. I think it also happens in Saving Private Ryan. Makes me wonder if I would.

The right hand of the leader of the hunter and ex Fedra is the voice actor of Tommy in the game. The endcredits song comes from part 2 and is sung by Ashley Johnson (Ellie from the game). Joel's hearing problems were spread throughout the episode. He always sleeps on the bad ear, Ellie often has to repeat herself several times until he understands her, he did not hear the bandit and Henry and Sam in the end also not, because he lay on the good ear in his sleep. These fraction are Hunter. Basically, they are what the fireflys were in Boston, but successful and normal people. They won against Fedra. They do the same thing as Joel. No good and evil here.

@@TomTomson81 She sung it for the part 2 trailer. But the song at the end of the episode is NOT her cover of it. There was even a controversy about the fact that they forgot to credit the acoustic arrangement as being from Lotte.

Watching her eat the Ravoli really makes me wonder just how long canned food can actually last beyond the expiration date. I remember eating a 2 year old can of green beans and honestly...I couldn't tell the difference.

That's because a lot of foods(especially canned foods) have salt in them, which is used as a preservative to keep the foods fresh. I'm not sure for how long though.

There are MRE's that are still edible despite the decades. And it all depends on what you mean by "last" If you mean last as in won't kill you... Or do you mean tasting decent and holding the same nutrients

While not the best episode, it certainly continued the relationship between Joel and Ellie (which is good). I liked seeing the original voice of Tommy in this. Also, the actress from Yellowjackets as the leader of the Hunters is good casting. Also... Henry and Sam have entered the chat, y'all!!!

Also did you notice that Perry is the original actor who played Tommy in the game?

Mary, love your channel. I’d like to suggest a couple of great movies. Taking Chance is a true story and all in it is how military personnel are cared for when killed. Something the lord made is a true story with Alan Rickman. Backdraft is a great firefighter film by Ron Howard. Thanks

So pedro pascal is not 56 in real life, but close enough. He's 47, and with the extra grey hair and facial scruff, it ages him up a few years too. :) but I also think Pedro is a younger looking guy than 47 in real life too. Lol

It’s been a while since you watched anything court related, and I highly recommend “The People VS O.J. Simpson”. It’s a pretty short miniseries, but I really want to see someone who isn’t from America give us their opinion on what happened there. Especially since it’s one of the most historically accurate shows ever made and the events in question directly contributed to the racial divide in the modern US

Not everyone. The guy was going to kill Joel. Then he gets shot and starts crying because he's suddenly on the losing side. Zero sympathy.

It's interesting to see all the video game player's with the "finish him off!" sentiment and how that changes. The game tried to make you question the morality of things a bit but not enough to turn people off of killing the NPCs. The show on the other hand is doing a great job of bringing things into a more grounded space. On the other hand... "Hey Kathleen, somebody killed that group of people we specifically put out there to ambush and kill/rob anyone who comes near us." "Maybe Henry called someone?" Or maybe if you choose violence you run the risk of losing to someone who is better at it?

Great reaction. A lot of people who react to this, moan and complain that it's not exactly like the game. Yet had it been like for like? Those same people would moan and complain about that. I've separated the game from the show. And, I've been enjoying the series so far. I mean it's not perfect, but I love the banter with Joel and Ellie.

My only issue with this show to this point is the new character Kathleen, not that she is bad, but don't believe in her character, can't see her as an Alpha, how can she run this fraction in this world, in my eyes she looks so Beta, not like Marlene or Tess, they were some strong alpha women, you need authority in a dog eat dog world, maybe it makes more sense later, but it throws me a bit off

SPOILER ALERT!!! DON'T READ THIS COMMENT UNLESS YOU KNOW THE WHOLE STORY FROM THE GAME! Another thing they changed from the game is when Ellie tells Dina who was her first kill, it was the hunter that was about to kill Joel, but in this version she says that wasn't her first. The sad part is that I think we're going to find out her first kill was Riley after she finally turned. I could be wrong, but she was only bitten 3 weeks before she met Joel and Tess so to fit in this time frame that doesn't leave many people that she could have shot. Really heartbreaking if you think about it. This part is not so much a spoiler but in the game version Ellie was reading a comic book in the back seat when she complained about the comic book she was reading was a 'To be continued' leaving it at a 'clif-hanger'. So what did the people at Naughty Dog and HBO do to us? Leave this episode off at a 'CLIF-HANGER!!!'
