    The small rock garden area at the mid point of the vid was a fun time for a couple of my buddies and me 2 years ago. We ran the trail the opposite direction, but we all had Wranglers on 33's. Never had to pull a winch line out, but that's also the difference between a short wheel base build and a long wheelbase. I wouldn't be trying the trail again with my current Avalanche. Having been a "wheeler" for over a decade and running various trails in Virginia and Pennsylvania, and now moving more into overlanding, I have found that trips are a little more fun when you can mix the two off-road styles. Good job on running what is definitely Virginia's most technical trail!

Yup, Your in my neck of the woods for sure.lol If you ever see a 1986 E250 club, on 38.5s."Tonka1" has been on my plate for 19 years, "on a 4x4 van". Me and my son are building a couple new ones, well trying to. I recently gave him my built 86 ton 4x4 van. So, that's my excuse to build a new 2011 and up E350 4x4 van. lol thanks

    This is on the easier side of offroad trails. A wrangler can do this on 31s and no lockers, with a good spotter. It's typically about a half day trail for a decent size group of jeeps then camp at the free campground at the trail head and run it the next day in the opposite direction. Speaking of which, it's pretty lame to be camping up in the field and trashing it up with your shit when there's a free campground with outhouses. The local club has an agreement with the park service to do the maintenance and upkeep on this trail in order to keep it open. Anything done off trail by vehicles up there is a lot more work for them.

  • @msoverland

    @msoverland

    Food for thought - we picked Jeep inner fenders, flares, plastic zip ties and Bud Light cans during the entire production. And camping in the field and "trashing it up?" Clearly not on the same page. During our production, no fires, packed out what we brought in (including trash left by others) and we carry groovers for our dirty work. Enjoy your campground and we'll enjoy solitude brother. Thanks for watching!

    Always looks like you guys are having a great time with good friends on great trails. Sounds like you’ll probably get all the trucks through without disabling damage which is paramount in the daily drivers! Thanks for sharing your trip since they’re fun to watch and I always learn something too. Not sure what’s up with the critical comments and internet experts. And hey, dig the music! Especially the cover of the old tune by The Band at the end. Solid gents.

    What makes a overlanding rig more practical over a rig set up for rock crawling? Wouldn't it come down to what your doing determine whats practical or not?

  • @randycane5894

    Correct. Overlanding rigs are practical for mild trails and blacktop driving. If you want to rock crawl they get a lot less practical

  • @msoverland

    @msoverland

    Overland-type trucks are designed to carry weight and perform well under harsh conditions when traveling long distances on remote roads. Rock crawling are designed to be nimble and to maintain traction on technical terrain at slow speeds and typically shorter distances.

    @ryanaupperlee2662

    Never had any problems with any of my rigs that are set up for rock crawling, camping and driving them long distances. Ive driven Tj wranglers loading up to and from PA to AZ 4 times. Just didn't really under stand when it was said that the overland rigs are practical. Or i might had miss heard what was said. But over all my whole life i thought building a rig for offroad travel what ever the type, was to build em to take on anything on the trail. Not all rigs built for rock crawling are rock buggys or ultra 4 race cars.

  • @tomasher1911

    @tomasher1911

    I wouldn't even overland in a TJ and on 37's you can't even pull 55mph on mountain passes. Sure you can drive 3 hrs, wheel and camp. But in reality you are not going anywhere these trucks can't go. Because real wheeling starts with cages and trailers. Anything else is light duty. I have had many jeeps in the past, and trailered jeeps. I would take any of these over a tj on 37's. Just for practicality. But yes you can drive a TJ cross the country on 40's. Have at it.

    Navigating an overland truck through difficult terrain is different than taking a beater through using the skinny pedal. It's a completely different ballgame.

    Wow I either thought you guys knew what you were doing when I started watching you guys, or were all about real exploration, learning and wheeling. You were why I wanted to head up North and explore VT and NH. But you guys changed and have far less experience than I gave you credit for. First of all, maxtrax are garbage for rock crawling, change my mind. Sand/Snow/Mud, yes purposeful. Rocks, no. Stack rocks if you need to clear a diff or belly pan. And how many times did I hear you guys were afraid of scratching a rim? Who cares about a scratched rim? It's an offroad vehicle. I hate to say it, but what I just saw was not technical wheeling, it was winching and stacking rocks because I am afraid to scratch the bottom of my truck up. Next time, try more lines, test it out and don't just commit to one shit line and stick with it. You will have a much more enjoyable time and learn something in the process.

    @@msoverland The fact that you call it a "SET" is fucking hilarious. It's a TRAIL that's meant for real explorers and wheelers. But all you broverlanders care about is product placement, likes and user engagement I guess. And all the sheep who want to "overland" think that they need all this garbage on their rigs to go car camping just perpetuates the stereotype that this is .overlanding. The real overlanders are out there exploring and wheeling without all the glam.

    To THE CAMERA MAN: It's really hard to watch footage where the camera is wobbling all over the place and when you are waving it all over. I'm no expert but from watching hours of offroading and being filmed myself there is ONE truth. If the truck is moving the camera must be perfectly still for you to appreciate what the truck is doing on an obstacle. If it's just driving past on a gravel road - fine swing the camera at is as it goes by. But to see suspension work, tires scrabble, etc the camera must be motionless. Keep it up!
