The Last BeeGee: Barry Gibb's emotional first interview following Robin's death | 7NEWS Spotlight

The BeeGees were a phenomenon with hit songs and legions of fans. But their success has been tinged with heartache, starting with the death of brother Andy in 1988, Maurice in 2003 and Robin in 2012. Rahni Sadler sat down with Barry in the months following Robin's passing for an emotional interview, which helped him come to terms with the tragedy.

*As a childhood friend of all three of the lads (Andy hadn't been born), I keep trying to get to the end of this interview without being in floods of tears. Not least because I know Barry was just 100% Barry throughout the whole interview. No ego, no heirs and graces. Just a mate whose **_"job"_** was to write and sing songs with his brothers. It's hard... I mean really hard, to see him surrounded by his big, beautiful family, yet at the same time, he feels like a man alone without Mo and Rob around. I know from personal experience, that the worst thing about getting older, isn't creaking bones, gaining a few extra pounds, or losing your hair. No. The worst thing (by far) is losing family members and lifetime friends who all played a part in making you the person you ultimately become. Sorry to be so downbeat, but that's just how I feel today. May your God bless you, whoever and wherever you are today x.*

Thank you for sharing, LJD Manx Fella - very moving and powerful. I am yet to see the entire interview, as it's just too late at night and I only found it about one hour ago. Barry Gibb sounds like a lovely, beautiful soul as I believe all the members of the group were. Sadly, I have to leave further viewing until tomorrow night. However, I know I'll truly value the time spent on the Bee Gees, from last night, tonight, tomorrow night and in future days ahead, God Bless and I'm sorry for your loss of all Bee Gees other than Barry, I pray you find solace and comfort, when you take a trip down memory lane whilst listening to their extraordinary music from Heaven : Barry's voice is stunning and their harmonising is excellent and I'm sure the angels like to join him and his deceased brothers in song. I pray you and your loved Ines have a blessed and joyous Christmas and Happy New Year for 2022.

I am trying to get to the end of this interview without being in tears. I've listened to Bee Gees videos all night, and know that hearing Barry speak now, he is 100% real with no air or ego. His 'job' was to write and sing songs with his best mates and brothers, Maurice and Robin. It is hard to see Barry with a beautiful family, but at the same time, I feel that he is alone. From personal, and later professional experience as a Reg. Nurse caring for palliative people, our issues aren't aging, broken bones or weight gain. The worst thing {by far} is the loss of family, lifetime friends and patients. All of these people play a huge role in shaping the person we ultimately become. I am still a caregiver, and much wiser for the journey. May God bless you Barry with precious memories, and the most incredible music ever made, to touch your heart and soul for many years ✨️💞. I've shared to Isle of Man family and friends from Ontario, Canada ❤️ xx

Such a nice way of putting it. I hope that Barry can heal and find peace with the fact that he is the last of the brothers, and even if life has changed for him, it is still worth living and remembering the good times. He is a great person, and so unselfish in his ways. It made me sad to see him crying. So many of their songs were sort of auto--biographical, unfortunately... I lived in Florida in the 1970's. Everybody knew them, and some people even partied with them at this place called Stiltsville, off of Key Biscayne. They were the "real deal" and brought a lot of excitement and awe, as well as defining the disco era. Their music has certainly outlasted the era. It is eternal.

Barry is not just a role model for music, but for being human at all. It's not really as easy as it seems to have that attitude when you're rich and famous.

Oh my. What an emotional interview this was. When Barry admitted that each time he lost a brother, it was when they were not getting along. The pain he has had to carry, knowing that, must be awful. I cried along with him. The interviewer was great in being so sensitive and comforting to Barry's pain and grief.

This interview allowed Barry to unpack some of his pain. It gave us insight not into a former superstar but we learned the history of three brothers who dearly loved each other, and their eldest brother who grapples with living without them. Excellent gentle interview. Kudos to her for handling it with care.❤️

Very nice interview. He always seemed like a nice man. The interviewer was so kind when he became emotional. I understand his emotion. I lost my brother unexpectedly. Something is missing in your soul. You’re never the same. My brother was older than me. He took me to see The Bee Gees in Pittsburgh 1979. I’ll never forget it.

I have absolutely loved the Bee Gees since day one. There will never be a band, group, whatever that would ever come close to being as great and sweet, and humble, etc as them. It just doesn't get any better case closed! I will never, ever get tired of listening to them. Their voices just blend so perfectly like no other! The smiles and fun and laughter they shared and entertained everyone with is just so amazing and unforgettable! I just can't say enough about them! They are to me just timeless no doubt about it! Like I believe Elton John said one said, (quote)
