The aerial chemical mosquito control by aircraft is banned in Hungary since 2020. So this summer was the last time planes could take off for this purpose. In Miskolc, the last aerial mosquito control was on 3 August 2020, which can be seen in this video.
The aircraft in the video, with the registration HA-MDH, is an Antonov An-2R type built in 1979. The aircraft was manufactured in Poland at the PZL-Mielec factory. It was scrapped in 2023 after 44 years of service.
From 2020 onwards, mosquitoes can only be eradicated from the ground. From now on, aerial mosquito control can only be used in the event of an epidemiological emergency with the specific consent of the national public health officer, which has not been done since.
