We all have a story I too was abused mentally and physically, but I never even sparked my kids because of that they were punished pain free,I never ever thought of taking anyone’s life, if you take a life by murder you have to give your life, why should you get to stay alive. If you rob someone or a shop/bank you do not have to kill someone, and I am not saying it’s ok to rob anyone, but you made a choice to do that, and you pre planned to kill someone because you took a weapon so you have to pay your price.

What is written in the Bible is clearly not the best that Humanity is capable of in the ethical domain. The age of subscribing to the dictates of Parables, Prose, Fantasies and Fables, prescribed by morality signalling hypocrites who presume to speak on behalf of a Celestial Patriarch in whose "name" they cast aspersions, judgements, condemnations and prejudice while claiming that these are "God's verdict", is over. Conciousness has recognised an authentic understanding of knowledge, free from the conceit and contrivances of an ultimatum based superstitious hysteria promoted by people who claim the authority of fabricated pieces of primeval myth and fiction and want me to believe that these are "Divine", that I won't have, and it is the original repudiation. The first rebellion against mental slavery comes from saying ; this is man-made, it is not "Divine".

I just cannot make myself feel any sympathy for any of these prisoners. Mainly, because they all had choices. They didn’t have to do the heinous crimes that they did! They all made a really bad choice. One that they may have regretted, but one that they had to accept. All should have thought differently, and maybe they could have really done some good in life, instead of, the dark and evil actions that they executed. We must all be held accountable for the choices that we make. All of us! Plus, at all times too. Peace.

I’m trying to figure out the purpose of this story. Is this to gain sympathy for the men, feel bad for their looming death? It’s interesting but I don’t understand the intent.

Only God should determine who lives or dies, therefore if one takes upon himself to take a life he shall answer to God, imprisonment is one thing but no man has the power or justification of taking a life as a consequence

Unfortunately, there very well could be a time you just have to defend yourself. It's regrettable, but it's reasonable. It's understandable. To coldly and maliciously target a weaker person, then cry jesus a week before the chair, sorry! I'm not exactly fond of the death penalty, but only because in the past so many falsely accused received harsh sentences, some of which you even see overturned after 15 years ! So... it's imperfect. But, you knew what you were signing up for. Live by the sword and all.
